Bringing out the cheese on a Friday before jetting off to work unofficial sticky:
(key the piano)
Just a small town girl
Living in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere
A singer in a smoky room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
{Refrain}
Strangers, waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Paying anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
{Refrain}
Don't stop believing
Hold on to that feeling
Streetlight people

U know of good relatively inexpensive American bird identification picture book??? How do you'all pick them out?
U know of good relatively inexpensive American bird identification picture book??? How do you'all pick them out?
I prefer the Sibley's Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America as my main source in the field.......it's just at $20 and readily available in any bookstore. It is the small Sibley's with an American Goldfinch on front. The "big" Sibley's (with a hawk on front) is too bulky to carry in the field.
National Geographic makes a small book specific to Texas.....but it leaves out many "common" birds.
Practice, practice, practice is the best way to pick them out.......go out with experienced birders and learn from them. Don't be afraid to ask them questions. Good binoculars also help.
There's a lot of great birding possibilities along the Texas coastline near to Houston.

sniff, sniff... got my AARP membership offer and 10C brochure (predecessor to DEEP) on the same day
(at 50).
Did NOT join AARP, but keep them both in my briefcase.
Had a professor tell us that the AARP discounts are worth the price of membership......and it is a very influential lobby on Capital Hill.

Really?? I certainly didn't reject it out of vanity, I just didn't see where I would use any of the benefits with the way that I travel, have other resources (corporate discounts etc.). Didn't think of the lobbying power - maybe I'll check it out.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we have been dodging killer tornados here in Central Florida. Here's hoping that tonite will be much more peaceful and serene....

Heard Love Reign O'er Me on the radio tonight at work. Apparently the station had several people calling requesting it. Is this thing going to become an official single? Its not on the soundtrack right? Had to listen to the dj talk about how us Ten Club members already had our single. I wanted to scream at the radio that the whole world will have already heard the song before we actually get our grubby little hands on the vinyl.
In an unrelated but funny story, I was listening to the same station (ok I guess it is related) and apparently they have a show on late Friday nights where they just play old "hair bands". Well, the first commercial break comes on and its an add for some religious group and goes on about how "cool" it is to find Jesus. Very funny to listen to it and realize that they think kids listening to "hair bands" are into devil worship and all kinds of stuff. Its obvious too, because I have never heard the commercial played at any other time on the station.
