    Agrees with that one.
I tried to get into Ween once as well.

just once? oh god ween. i can't get a handle on them. they sound like every other band but themselves. which i know is a weird statement. but hey push the little daisies is still a fave of mine.

    This is how it happened:

Downloaded The Pod> Listened to The Pod> Deleted The Pod from my hard drive.

    True story.

R.E.M. I love Stipes voice, and it's not as if everyone else in the band is bad, because they're obviously talented. But they just seem like "rock-lite" to me. And that's their new stuff and their old stuff before you jump on me.

I've never been a big fan of alice in Chains. I love a few things of them (unplugged's rooster, etc.) but not a big fan though....

Ween grew old pretty fast when I saw them open for the Flaming Lips. Their music was almost self-servingly pretentious as the show went along.

    Kings of Leon
    Tool
    Queens of the Stone Age
    My Morning Jacket
    Radiohead
    Arcade Fire
    Wilco
    Drive By Truckers
probably some others that I've forgotten

That's not to say that I hate these bands or think they are horrible. They are fine and I'll listen to their music. I just don't see what the big deal is with these bands and think they're overhyped.

the difference being AC/DC have never reformed. all they did was replace bon scott.

  • #1 pet hate- Kings of Leon- They opened for PJ and so apparently must be the second comming.

The legion of indie bands which apprently I should just persist with until eventually I force myself to like them.

Tool, Radiohead and the White Stripes- Boring and pretentious

He didn't mention anything about reforming though. All he said was that if the lead singer dies, you must change your band's name.

Take out Tool (no pun intended) and add Kings of Leon and you have my list.

And I think I'm the only Black Keys fan on this board that does not like the new CD.

On the other hand, though I have to give the board credit for getting me into Wintersleep.

no he didn't, I did. and i did so cause the two bands he mentioned to illustrate his point, blind melon and AIC have reformed.

  • Arcade Fire for sure. I just don't get it. I've given them probably a dozen or more chances and I just can't at all get into them.

    Me either.

Bruce Springsteen - like a few songs especially 10th avenue freeze out, but he mostly bores me, good voice though

REM - like quiet a few songs, but I don't love them like many seem to here

Weezer - Buddy Holly is a great song, but most of their stuff doesn't appeal to me.

Tool - All sounds the same. I like a tool song every great once in a while, thats it.

Kiss - don't know if many like them, but I'll shit on this band every time I see a thread. The worst rock band ever. Popular because of the non-musical reasons, their songs are comletely unlistenable except for that disco song which makes them even more of a joke.

Agrees with all them except Arcade Fire, I like them, but I can certainly understand them not being to everyones tastes.

  • I've given Wilco a try and I just can't seem to get interested. Radiohead.
Bands like Death Cab for Cutie and a few otthers I have not listened to and have no opinion.

Actually, I've been turned on to much more great music on this forum than I have been led astray. My Morning Jacket immediately leaps to mind because they have become one of my favorites

  • just to remind people posting here to read the title of the thread before they get all pissy with everyone who happens to not like their favourite band.
  • musical appreciation is such a personal thing isnt it? :)

Sure is. Funny thing is that alot of the bands I do like are either strongly influenced by /or influential on those acts I mentioned. I just don't see 'it' and don't have the time to invest, waiting for that thing that I'm missing to pop out.

Good for you for presuming to know his point. Without him elaborating on his point, it was a blanket statement that includes all bands that have had a singer die, regardless of continuing on or reforming.

Anyways, when the personnel remains the same except for the singer, there really isn't much difference. If it had been Jerry Cantrell and 3 other musicians who weren't previously in AiC, then yeah, change the name. Same goes for Blind Melon and any other band.
  • I forgot to say:

The Who - I wonder how much Vedder loving them influences people here to love them... anyway, they did alot of stuff first, but it mostly sounds clownish to me.

I enjoy some of their music, but I have to agree for the most part.
Oh, and I failed to mention the most obvious one for me in my original post: NEIL YOUNG...best thing he ever did in my opinion was Mirror Ball
