i may as well say..the fact u dont have tori amos on ur list u shouldnt be taken serious... pfft stuff that
how can u make that kind of statement "that fact that ive seen FREDDIE MERCURY on only one list is enough to not take anyone seriously here" in ur opinion he is the be all and end all, but well he definitely isnt to me, and really - there is no way that u can say to me that im wrong or that my opinion sucks or anything to that effect since this is all purely subjective
1)Layne Staley
2)Eddie Vedder
3)Jeff Buckley
4)Neil Young
5)Andrew Wood
6)Mark Lanegan
7)Axl Rose
8)Robert Plant
9)James Hetfield

"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
Scott Weiland(i dunno i mightve put him before...)-just an awesome vocalist
yeah maybe with STP, with velvet revolver his vocals are awful

dont be ignorant. give me someone better than mercury
Eddie Vedder
Robert Plant
Freddie Mercury
Paul Rogers (can't believe nobody put him, FREE, BAD COMPANY, THE FIRM, now QUEEN, but don't know how he sounds with them..)
Eric Burdon (lead singer from the Animals, also sang Spill the Wine)
Roger Daltrey
Jim Morrison
Elvis (not the drugged bloated one, but the young Elvis, especially the '68 comeback elvis)
Chris Cornell
Ronnie Van Zant (God bless him)
Steven Tyler
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Eric Clapton (smooth like a good whiskey)
Guys that don't make the list, but I still like them are::
Bono (never could really sing, but an amazing performer!)
David Lee Roth (brought Cock-rock to the forefront)
Paul Stanley/Gene Simmons (voices fit the music)
Ozzy (everybody loves Ozzy)
Steve Perry from Journey--chicks really dug him in the 80s
I should stop as I'm showing my age!!!!
Makes much more sense to live....in the present tense
I know I was born and I'll know that I'll die
The inbetween is mine, I am mine
dont be ignorant. give me someone better than mercury
to me - eddie vedder is better than mercury, actually - my entire list i think are better. i dont care what notes they are hitting if i dont like the sound as much.
otherwise lets go get ourselves some opera singers to sing for us
I am going for people here who are vocally so talented, and distinct in their own way. In no particular order though first two are a bit biased.
Geoff Tate (Queensryche)
Eddie Vedder
Amy Lee (Evanescence)
Luciano Pavarotti
Maynard James Keenan (a perfect circle)
Steven Tyler (Aerosmith)
Annie Lennox
Paul Stanley (Kiss)
Chris Robinson (Black Crowes - He shone on his solo album New Earth Mud)
Freddie Mercury
OZZY OSBOURNE
RONNIE VANZANT
scott stapp
axl rose
brian johnson
david draymon
bret michaels
james hetfield
sully erna
josh todd from the mighty Buckcherry
One time I was trying to print a picture of me so I could give it to a friend to cheer him up after he was diagnosed with cancer, but the printer jammed, and my friend died.
I love the fact that whenever someone makes a thread like this people inevitable post a bunch of people that in the grand scheme of rock music really don't matter at all and won't be remembered for shit, past like, I don't know, next week?
Or people post singers who, while successful in the careers, quite honestly have god awful voices.
I will leave it to you guys to figure out exactly what "vocalists" i am talking about.
It's just people posting thier favorites. Maybe if it was, "Top 10 most important/greatest vocalists..." then it would be more accurate.
there is no way that u can say to me that im wrong or that my opinion sucks or anything to that effect since this is all purely subjective
Of course it's subjective, because people are just posting thier FAVORITE vocalists. But, if anyone in here seriously thinks that Vedder is better (that, as in more skilled, talented..) than Mercury, then I probably wouldn't take them seriously either. No offense.

if u just want good singers or whatever - just get an opera singer and throw em in a rock band. they hit more notes than mercury i bet
oh hold on - that doesnt work does it? so really - the best isnt very measureable.. is it?
there can be no true definition of "best" in the music world by judging performances on albums, live performances - there would need to be some form of objective testing... how that is done? i have no idea...
The only one who comes close to Mercury is Jackie Wilson, and he might be better than Mercury...
also did i see james labrie from dream theater on ur list? cause that guy can sing - he can do so many of the voices on ur list and he has his own style...
just an interesting exclusion in my view
but nehow - ur list, its subjective no matter how much u dont think ur list is
IMO, Annie lennox has a better voice than most of the lists here. Rock singers aren't the best vocalists...they scream well and can hit notes but when your talking best vocalist of all time..........Axl Rose, Eddie Vedder, James Hetfield (cummon....him? pfft) just don't cut the mustard.
No order, just chicking them out there:
1. Annie Lennox
2. Elton John
3. Tracy Chapman
4. Freddie Mercury
5. Sinatra (??)
6. Celine Dion (Annoying but by God that girl can sing)
7. Whitney Houston (Smacked down nowadays but back then? Pheww)
8. Michael Jackson
9. John Denver
10...........................Can't think.........................
OZZY OSBOURNE
RONNIE VANZANT
scott stapp
axl rose
brian johnson
david draymon
bret michaels
james hetfield
sully erna
josh todd from the mighty Buckcherry
while i respect that it is your faves and you are entitled to your opinion, scott stapp is a third rate vedder rip-off and including him over eddie is ridiculous. its like rating godsmack over alice in chains.
plus bret michaels is a posing knob-end but obviously this is all your opinion and i respect that

Of course opera singers are the best...but we are talking about rock correct?? It can be judged objectivly...using things such as range, control, power, versatility, etc..
