hey again! i got the album last night, and i see what you mean about the lyrics.... as i was opening the case, i thought to myself "well, the insert looks big enough - how could there be no lyrics??"... but alas, you are right....

i do, however, ADORE the piece of art on the poster..... i stared at it for several minutes, trying to figure out which way was up - and then decided that it didn't have an "Up".... are they mountains? ocean waves? a bird? I think i see a little village too.... in every direction there is a new image... genius. i love it. apparently, Melissa Kearney is the name of the artist....

You're right, the artwork is beautiful. I just wish they'd include the lyrics once in a while. I suppose I can just "google" them if need be.

are you in Toronto? are you going? I'll be there for sure with a couple of girlfriends... i'm so excited!! :D

i'm loving the new album too... especially Drunk on Aluminum, Dead Letter, and Miasmal Smoke & The Yellow Bellied Freaks.... i really like that last tune - a stronger finish than their other two albums i think (ok, People Talk is nice... but i can do without Motion)

Damn, I just found out that the venue they're playing in Calgary, The Warehouse, is a strictly members-only club. So in order to get into the Wintersleep show I'm gonna have to pay an extra $10 (on top of the tix I already paid for) for a freakin' membership to a club that I'm only gonna visit once. From what I've been told, they're very strict about this policy and they'll turn you away at the door if you don't buy one before you walk in...even if you have tickets to the show. Of course there was no mention of this on the Wintersleep website, and no mention of it when I purchased the tix at Ticketbastard last week. That pisses me off.

    *end of rant*

This album keeps getting better the more I listen to it. It's safe to say that it will most likely end up at the top of my list for albums of the year. It's just an amazing piece of work by one of the best rock bands in the world. Only 21 more sleeps until the Calgary show!

was at the free show at the Horseshoe last night... and it was great fun, as expected!

the new songs sound great live.... :D
    they played:

    Drunk on Aluminum
    Archeologist
    Dead Letter
    Oblivion
    Weighty Ghost
    Muderer
    Laser Beams
    Jaws of Life
    Yellow Bellied Freaks

I can't wait until Friday to see them play a full set, and to have a better place to stand... I couldn't see Loel at all from where I was!!

so, i went to see the Wintersleep show in Hamilton last night..... or should I say, early this morning... (they went on at 12:20 and played til about 2:15!)

first of all, I just want to say that Loel is my new hero.... that man can play the drums like nobody's business.... where he gets his energy from, i'll never know....

So... I mentioned the other day that I couldn't wait to hear a full set.... and full set is what we got!!! Here it is, not quite in order:

    Drunk on Aluminum
    Archeaologists
    Dead Letter
    Caliber ( yah baby!)
    Jaws of Life
    Murderer
    Faithfull Guide
Listen, Listen, Listen (this song is so delicious, I just want to eat Paul Murphy for breakfast!)
    Weighty Ghost
    Migration
    Search Party
    Oblivion
    Laser Beams
    Yellow Bellied Freaks
    Snowstorm
    Orca
Home (don't think this was planned, but the crowd just started singing it and wouldn't stop, so they had no choice but to join in! :D)
Nerves Normal, Breath Normal ( mind-blowing, as usual!)
    Danse Macabre

The crowd was amazing... Paul looked a little shocked but very happy at the crowd's knowledge of the new songs (great singalongs!!). He said it was the best reaction they'd had to the new songs so far.... and i think that translated into some of the treats from the old records....

I really can't express how in love with these guys i am right now....

I didn't get a chance to talk to to Loel, but he was at the front door when i walked in, and when i handed the girl my email print-out, he exclaimed "Is that an E-ticket??" lol.... i thought it was a strange reaction.... hahaha...

I did bump into Paul as he left the stage (ok - I may have put myself in his way, just a little bit... ;)) and I was able to shake his hand... all that came out of my mouth though, was "Awesome, awesome... thank you... that was amazing!" I'm such a tool... :o

I checked this album out after reading this thread and I have to say it's not bad, but it will probably take some time to grow on me more. Reminds me of the Counting Crows.

Well now. I must say that after having seen them a few years ago that their live show has jumped a few awesome pegs. I like the new cd, but the songs live are so much better and at times their was such intensity in the songs that it was quite moving. I love the way singer gets into it not to mention that he's freaking hot. The drummer looks like a serial killer, but good lord he's a great drummer. Keyboardist looks like he stepped out off the Degrassi set lol. Very very impressed with this show and a good crowd too. My friend got great vids of 2 songs. I'll let you know when we get them up somewhere. Here's one of the better pics I took:

I am so in love with Wintersleep at the moment. :)

After not liking all the songs on the new album at first...they have all grown on me, and now the whole album pretty much blows me away. I absolutely adore it!

I really REALLY want to see these guys live.

I'm VERY jealous of you hearing Caliber. :(

Really?? I don't think Wintersleep sounds anything remotely close to the Counting Crows, but maybe that's just me.

I read a review of Welcome To The Night Sky that said the singer sounded like Eddie without the cheesy theatrics, or something. I'll see if I can find it.

    Personally, I don't hear it.

meh...i thought the singer sounded like Hayden on the first two cd's, but on the latest one he sounds more like himself if that makes sense.
