http://www.CMT.com premiered the new Bruce video American Land . This was shot at the MSG show ( i was there ) near the first Legs conclusion . This is also the new track that the reissue of the new albuim / dvd revolves around.
Springsteen may have played his last Rumson Country Day School benefit, but the spirit -- and heck, the setlist -- lives on. Last night at the Stone Pony, Bruce reteamed with Bobby Bandiera and his band for a similar affair, once again a private show for parents and teachers, this time for the Ranney School. It was a night of rock, as we've come to expect from this kind of show, featuring classic covers like "Seven Nights to Rock" and a full "Detroit Medley"; the only echo of the ongoing Seeger Sessions tour was the sight of Ed Manion and Patti Scialfa on stage. Patti got much of the spotlight, stepping up for "Tell Him," "Boy from NYC, and "Sugar Sugar" (all listed on the setlist as possibilties for song #9 -- they wound up doing them all), and later in the set, "Son of a Preacher Man." In another setlist change, Southside Johnny joined in for an audible of "I Don't Wanna Go Home." As the set stretched out, something had to give (it was a school night, after all), and songs 16-19 on the handwritten setlist were dropped. Surely no complaints, as Bruce went from "Darlington County" into a high-energy "Tenth Avenue Freeze-out," and had the headmaster onstage for a show-closing "Twist and Shout."
Setlist :
634-5789/Talk to Me/Seven Nights to Rock/Two Hearts/Spirit in the Night/Rendezvous/From Small Things/All That Heaven Will Allow/Tell Him/Boy From NYC/Sugar Sugar/Further On (Up the Road)/Waitin' on a Sunny Day/The Fever/I Don't Want to Go Home (with Southside Johnny)/Son of a Preacher Man/Seaside Bar Song/Darlington County/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Detroit Medley (inc. "Devil with the Blue Dress," "Good Golly, Miss Molly," "C.C. Rider," and "Jenny Take a Ride")/Twist and Shout

Bruce and the Seeger Sessions Band rehearsed again today at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park.
An interesting day, as they worked on a song that used to be performed by the Grateful Dead, another song that's a great gospel sound and Patti even performed one of her songs from the Rumble Doll album.
Bruce arrived with Patti around 10 a.m. and the music started soon after.
Thank you to Kevin and Anne for filling me in on the songs I missed.
1. American Land
2. Atlantic City
3. If I Should Fall Behind
Same version as we heard on the tour this past spring.
4. Cadillac Ranch with Mystery Train.
5. Long Time Coming
They worked on this a few times.
6. Further On Up The Road.
The nice version they played last June.
7. Samson and Delilah
From doing a google search, this song was performed by Bob Weir with the Grateful Dead from the mid-1970s onwards .
Roots: Bob Weir learnt this song from Rev Gary Davis, and the version the Dead do is based closely on Davis's. But the song's origins go back much further than that. It is first known of as a song sheet ("ballet") sold on the street in the early decades of the century - with the title "Samson Tore The Building Down". It was recorded in (possibly) 1923 by the Paramount Jubilee Singers with the same title. The best-known early recording is by Blind Willie Johnson under the title "If I Had My Way, I Would Tear This Building Down," from 1927. But there are at least three other recordings available from about the same time: "If I Had My Way I'd Tear The Building Down" by Rev T.E.Weems; "Samson And The Woman" by Rev J.M.Gates; and "If I Had My Way" by Rev T.T.Rose.
These are the lyrics:
Chorus
If I had my way
If I had my way
If I had my way
I would tear this whole building down
Delilah was a woman, she was fine and fair
She had good looks - God knows - and coal black hair
Delilah she gained old Samson's mind
When first he saw this woman, she looked so fine
Delilah she climbed up on Samson's knee
Said tell me where your strength lies, if you please
Then she spoke so kind, she talked so fair
That Samson said, Delilah you cut off my hair
You can shave my head, cleanse my hand
My strength comes as natural as any other man
[chorus]
You read about Samson, all from his birth
He was the strongest man ever had lived on earth
One day while Samson was walking along
Looked down on the ground he saw an old jaw bone
Then he stretched out his arm and his chains broke like threads
And when he got to move, ten thousand were dead
[chorus]
Now Samson and the lion, they got in attack
And Samson he walked up on the lion's back
You read about this lion, he killed a man with his paw
Samson got hands up round the lion's jaw
He ripped that beast, killed it dead
And the bees made honey in the lion's head
Sounded nice as Bruce and the backup singers took turns on the "If I Had My Way" part.
Had a gospel sound to it.
After a short break they came back to work on some sort of instrumental. There was some organ, violin and pedal steele.
8. Valerie
It was Patti Scialfa's turn to sing a song. This is a song from her Rumble Doll album and it sounded great with this band, especially when the horns kicked in.
They worked on the arrangements as they played the song three times.
Really nice, has a southwestern-type beat to it, especially with the horns.
Next up was another debut for Bruce and the Seeger Sessions Band.
9. This Little Light of Mine.
Another google search tells me this is traditonal song.
Bruce and the band performed it in a rousing-gospel type fashion that will have the crowd up and dancing as if they're at a Sunday church service.
Lyrics:
This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine,
Every day, every day,
Every day, every day,
Gonna let my little light shine
Nice piano in it. At one point the band claps along. And the backup singers are very prominent singing off Bruce. Also a banjo solo.
It's very uplifting and Bruce even does a little "preaching" in the middle of it.
Sort of in the same uplifting-way that Pay Me My Money Down
ended the show.
This will be fun. Bruce played the song three times and at the end of the third time, with a very uplifting finish, someone said into one of the microphones: "Bruce Springsteen has left the building."
Pretty funny.
They were then finished for the day around 2 p.m.
There were about a dozen people waiting for Bruce when he left. He ga

I spent the full day at Asbury Park at rehearsals and I can tell you that Bruce has some big treats in store for Europe. The sound of the new show is totally different from the Seeger Sessions tour that we last saw in AP. The sound of the band is very celtic and Irish.
Arrival: Bruce and Patti pulled up together about a half hour late, Bruce got a guitar out of the back of the Range Rover and they both went straight into the Paramount door just yelling hello to us.
Bruce howled "Let's GOOOOOOOOOOOO" and rehearsals were under way.
1. American Land- song is a lot tighter than version at Madison Square Garden. There were some changes to intro making it even more Irish sounding with a more extended penny-whistle/fiddle intro. Great song that they really have down and only went through it once.
2. Bruce yelled "OK, a little Atlantic City" and they launched into a version with a very jazzy piano intro. I liked it but it almost made it sound like another song.
3. If I Should Fall Behind- Irish fiddle was beautiful and sounded almost like the song Tennessee Waltz. Beautiful harmonizing by Patti and other girls.
4. Cadillac Ranch/ Mystery Train - Missed a lot of this one because had a business call but it sounded great. Bruce intor's it by saying "funky, funky, funky" and something about "getting some".
5. Long Time Coming - They played this over and over, putting a lot of changes that Bruce wanted.
6. Further Up The Road - The new Grusehcky/Springsteen song sounds great. Very Irish sounding with great flute and fiddle parts. This is when I realized that this ain't no Seeger Session. It is a banjo free zome with some great celtic music. Worked on this song for about 90 minutes. Trying out different trade off vocals with the background singers. It is incredible honor to hear Bruce at work, creating the song arrangement as you listen.
Caught Soozie and The Kingfish Eddie Manton out on the boardwalk for this break.
Spoke to Kevin for a couple of minutes at lunch. When I said I would put the photo on Backstreets, he told me to call it Guitar Tech with bagel.

The third and final day of rehearsals by Bruce and the Seeger Seeions Band at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park was a fun day, a birthday celebration and we got to hear Bruce work on one of his classics over and over in a different style.
The afternoon ended with a group of fans singing Happy Birthday to Bruce and he came out and signed a few autographs for us.
Bruce arrived about 9:50 a.m. and they started playing around 10:15 a.m
Thanks again to Anne for filling me in on the songs I missed.
1. Instrumental to Patti's song Valerie. Patti arrived a little later so the band worked on the music part of it.
2. Jesse James.
3. Adam Raised A Cain
4. Long Black Veil
They worked on the ending a few times
5. Froggie Went A Courtin'
6. Mrs. McGrath
7. Bring 'Em Home
8. The River.
Bruce and the band played this about 10 times. He was working on different parts. It was very interesting to hear the construction of the song evolving with this band.
It has an Irish-style to it now, sort of like Mrs. McGrath.
Starts off with a flute, there's some violin and a strong uplifting finish.
The part I really liked about it, is when they come to the line: "Is a dream a lie if it don't come true? Or is it something worse?"
The sound from the band goes down and Bruce really emphasizes the line. Very powerful.
After working on the song for more than an hour, it was time for a break.
But before that, the band broke into a rousing version of "Happy Birthday" for Bruce. With the horns, it was like a big jam session. It was really fun. Bruce's birthday is Saturday, but since this was the final rehearsal, they did it today.
Then Bruce broke into the Beatles song "Birthday" and started to sing:
"Hey it's MY Birthday. Happy Birthday to Me!"
During the break, some of the band members came outside wearing party hats. It was pretty funny.
They started up again at 1:20 p.m. and played:
1. American Land.
2. Further On Up The Road.
Same style that we heard in June, with Curtis King and Cindy Meisel taking turns on vocals. Really nice. Bruce worked on some parts of the song a few times.
3. Samson and Delilah
Someone told me Bruce may have got the idea to do this after hearing the Blasters version of it.
He played it twivce.
4. Valerie
Patti on lead vocals. Really nice. The horns give it a Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass sound.
5. Rag Mama Rag
This is great! I really like this song and hope Bruce keeps it in the setlist when he goes to Europe. Played the same way it was this past June.
6. The River.
Bruce again worked on certain parts of it. He had the horns come in a bit at the end. Finally after working on it for awhile, he said: "Let's leave it on hold for now."
Guess he still wants to polish it a bit.
Then Bruce yells: "The moment has arrived!"
And in his preaching voice he says: "Take your light and let it shine!"
7. This Little Light of Mine.
This will be one of the show highlights. When the horns kick in it has a New Orleans jazzy style. The crowd will feel like they're at a church revival. It will be fun.
That was it for the day as Bruce said: "Well done everybody! See you all in Italy!"
And then said: "Watch out, we are armed and dangerous!"
He then thanked the band for his birthday celebration saying he appreciated it.
They finished up around 2:45 p.m.
Bruce came out about 15 minutes later. There were about two dozen people waiting for him. When he came out the door, the crowd starting singing "Happy Birthday." He laughed, and started conducting us.
Then he came up and signed some autographs, personalizing each one before leaving.
I got my Seeger Sessions CD autographed.
Maria, the fan who held up the "Maria's Bed" sign at the June 24 PNC Bank Arts Center show, got the sign autographed by Bruce.
My friend Joellen took some fantastic photos of Bruce when he was signing autographs and is going to e-mail them to me later. I don't know how to post photos here, so if I e-mail them to someone, maybe they can post them on this thread.
This was definitely the final rehearsal. There will be no rehearsal show.
The trucks moved in and started taking the equipment out.
Crowd was a bit bigger today, maybe 25 people.

firstly, if they do come back and do anymore US dates, i hope that Bruce will mix it up some more . Like when he returned to the US ( after Europe ) on the D & D Tour - he mixed things up crazy and totally unpredictable. I believe he played over 125 + songs on that tour, so far on this one its up near 30 somewhere.
I do look forward to hearing a revamped "The River" also..

BACK TO SCHOOL
Springsteen, Bandiera & Co. rock the Pony again
Rider," and "Jenny Take a Ride")/Twist and Shout

they are from earlier today.
