That is "Where the Devil Don't Stay" and "Zip City" shy of being a pretty damn near perfect setlist...

Yeah, Zip City the the elusive track for me.

Found this on You Tube...pretty cool video for Puttin' People on the Moon:

That track's still one of my favorite.

Really? Both times I've seen them, they put on an energetic and varied live show.

    Give 'em another chance.

  • "One of These Days" is a current favorite of mine that I would love to hear...

When Cooley opened with it in Lancaster

I found the link in Alabama Ass Whuppin', along with this quote:
Patterson Hood: We’ll be finishing this tour on Halloween and we’ll be doing some one-offs and some weekend stuff from time to time, but I’m not planning on the band touring, maybe even for all next year. Besides doing some one-offs to keep the lights on, I’d like to keep it off the road. We’re gonna make another record. I’m gonna put out my solo record, and Jason’s gonna put his record out and there is some outside production stuff I really want to find some time to do.

He says he expects the Isbell album will be out in the spring... :D

There's also an interesting observation that he sees Dirty South as a thematic follow-up to Southern Rock Opera, while Blessing and A Curse was more connected to Decoration Day.

As a fan of both DBT and the Lips, this picture makes me very happy:

"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

  • My favorite dbt song is danko/manuel.

I'm pretty sure I saw the drummer when I was hanging out with Jim and Patrick at the pool hall in chicago.
" I think the thing that has always driven me to play music is the feeling you get when you just close your eyes and play. When you shut off the logic in your brain, and play from your heart. I think that's what made me become a musician - that feeling you get. Especially, if you are with a group of people who are in the same zone, and heading towards that same place in the song. I think you share an intimacy in those situations that you can only compare to sharing intimacy with a lover. I think it's the same place. It's a feeling that I crave for sure. " Jeff Ament

Here's a link to another interview w/ Patterson:

Talks about taking some time off, but the real news here is that a documentary on the band is being/has been filmed, with release sometime next year. Should be a hell of a film.

Okay so the DBT are ending their tour on NYE. Am I crazy if I wanted to drive 15 hours to see them on 12/30 and 12/31? Also why are those shows not sold out? They seems like small venues, plus it's their home town no?

Love the new Wes Freed artwork. Fits the song perfectly.

PBW and I are having a baby boy in 3 days.

In celebration, I asked all of our family to pick out one song that they'd want him to hear when he's older. I've taken all the song suggestions and made them into a 2 disc Mix-CD.

My hope is that he'll grow to appreciate different types of music when he's older and, more importantly, create a bond with each person who contributed.

There were a lot of songs for me to pick from but, when it came down to it, I had to go with Outfit.

It's a touching song from father to son. I hope he grows to appreciate the work of Jason Isbell and The Drive-By Truckers.

I freakin' love the artwork they have on their album covers. So easy to go into a store and locate the Drive-By Truckers section.

Congrats on the PBKid, and a great idea. I'm sure I've mentioned this previously, but I've gotten my son (who's 6) hooked on 18 Wheels of Love. Really, the only purpose is so he can start singing 'Momma ran off with a Trucker' at the most inopportune times when he's with my wife. She, however, fails to see the humor in this.

    Thanks merkinball...we appreciate it.

I sent Jason Isbell a message (through his Myspace Page) about the mix CD I made for Xavier. I told him that, without hesitation, I picked "Outfit". I said I hope that when X-Man grows up he appreciates the work of Jason and the Drive-By Truckers.

I got a response back last night from Jason. What a nice guy to take the time to write back.

Can this guy's stock go any higher?

I suspect that if he sent the little PBM an autographed copy of his solo album prior to release......the stock might go up. ;)

Just listening to 'World Of Hurt', inspired me to change my sig. Figured I'd bump the thread in its honor.
