It's alright
There comes a time
Got no patience to search
For peace of mind
Layin' low
Want to take it slow
No more hiding or
Disguising truths I've sold
Everyday it's something
Hits me all so cold
Find me sittin' by myself
No excuses, then I know
It's okay
Had a bad day
Hands are bruised from
Breaking rocks all day
Drained and blue
I bleed for you
You think it's funny, well
You're drowning in it too
Yeah, it's fine
We'll walk down the line
Leave our rain, a cold
Trade for warm sunshine
You my friend
I will defend
And if we change, well I
Love you anyway...

We chase misprinted lies
We face the path of time
And yet I fight
And yet I fight
This battle all alone
No one to cry to
No place to call home
Oooh...Oooh...
Oooh...Oooh...
My gift of self is raped
My privacy is raked
And yet I find
And yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can't be my own
I'd feel better dead
If you love AiC, I challenge you to watch Layne sing this on the Unplugged CD and not at least get a lump in your throat. It can't be done for anyone that loves them...TRULY loves them.

You're right.........I get chill bumps every time I see that man walk out and sit on that stool. It is crazy......it just gets me everytime!
When I waken, and I'm achin', time for sleepin', yeah
When I'm sayin' time to go and, I've been hurtin', yeah
When I'm layin, I'm still tryin', concentrating on dyin', yeah
You're right as rain, but you're all to blame
Agreed my crime's the same
My sins I'll claim, give you back shed pain
Go find a place for own shame
So you can deal with this thing unreal
No one made you feel any hurt, yeah
Body's movin, only provin, no one needs to move
Still believin, yet mistaken, all God's children, yeah
And I must say, I was stupid, selfishly she consumed, yeah
And you must change patterns all we trained
Or n'er regain peace you seek
Now you hear me, for the things I see
Yeah, I believe in inner peace, yeah
Throw out, blow up, hold in
Show fine, no signs, grow blind
Beautiful choice...this is my fave AIC song of all time!!!
Is it so wrong to think that love can keep us safe?
Hey, I ain’t never coming
Home
Hey, I’ll just wander my
Own road
Hey, I can’t meet you here tomorrow
Say goodbye don’t follow
Misery so hollow
Hey you, you’re livin’
Life full throttle
Hey you, pass me down that
Bottle, yeah
Hey you, you can’t shake
Me round now
I get so lost and don’t
Know how
And it hurts to care, i’m
Going down
Forgot my woman, lost my
Friends
Thinks I’d done and where
I’ve been
Sleep in sweat the mirrors
Cold
See my face it’s growin’
Old
Scared to death no reason
Why
Do whatever to get me by
Think about the things i
Said
Read the page it’s cold
And dead
Take me home
Aww my fave AIC ever! So beautiful! Layne was such a talent. I miss u Layne :(

Listening to the Best of the Box and for some reason I felt compelled to say something here again. Their music still touches me after 10+ years as a fan.
I've mentioned it in other threads, I'll mention it again.
Seeing AIC for the first time set me on a different path. I was at a Warrant & Danger Danger concert 10/24/1989 and they opened. I stood there in fucking awe, jaw dropped. It was absolutely amazing. I'm so glad I got to see them a couple more times. Layne was such a powerful singer, like nothing I've ever seen.
It's so funny. My friend and I used to have people ask, "How come such nice girls like you are listening to such angry music?" We'd just give 'em a snarly little smile.
Facelift is one my all time favorite albums. I don't see that the VHS tape of their Moore Theater show that was released with that CD is on DVD. It should be.

It's rare that bands can do that any more, huh? Rarely can you go to a concert with a band you've never heard before and just come out of there in amazement...and an instant fan. The only band to do such recently was Blonde Redhead, for me.

Pearl Jam and toast, nicely said. I couldn't agree more bud! It's really amazing isn't it?
Pansy Pearl...you saw them live?!? Lucky, super blessed girl! *bows down* haha. That is so damn cool. Leaving you completely motionless huh? Wow. I bet. And you're so right, Layne was indeed incredibly powerful with that voice and all that emotion that oozed from it. A voice like no other!! Sooo fuckin unique on so many levels (just like AIC).

hehe. Love it.
Ah and I totally know what you mean Nothingbetter (about your last few posts). Unplugged -all around- is one hell of a painfull, intense, emotional ride. Again, to see this man just barely existent, hanging on by a thread...it's a morbid sight to see, dressed in black- matching the circles under those tired eyes...struggling to stay on queue, to stay awake, to stay alive. It's heart wrenching. :( A song like Nutshell rings so true to him and even more so during this performance. Putting this god-awful image with these gorgeous, emotional, honest, way too fitting lyrics leaves a lump in my throat and then some. Very difficult to watch.
Meddledeal and I watched Music Bank last night. We both fought back the tears but we couldnt help it during OVER NOW Unplugged (yet another one with those fitting lyrics. Ouch!) We had to skip Down In A Hole cuze it's just too damn much too handle sometimes. I'm sure you all understand. :(
I have spent a great deal of time praising Layne (naturally ) but I really, REALLY wanna make sure to stress what an absolute pimp I think Jerry is. This man is a-mazing! Let's say it together now.....m-u-s-i-c-a-l genius! Yet another out of control, unstoppable talent. The things he does with this guitar?!? These dark, beautiful, super catchy melodies?! These harmonies!? The way he makes these strings bend, as if to stretch out and exaggerate the already intense emotion behind every single frickin word. The way makes the guitar ring, sing, weep! Woooow!! And as if that gorgeous voice of his guitar ain't enough, the man opens up his mouth and heaven is beside you indeed!!! AMEN! Hallejullah! Everytime Meddledeal and I watch Music Bank we can't help but praise away. This man kicks major ass. Don't you just looooooooove the THEM BONES \m/ vid where he's playing the guitar holding that shit straight up and down ( looks like he's holding it up on display) just shredding away!!! Getting some dual solo action in there too. Fuckin incredible!!! Love how the wind starts blowing in his hair...right before he shreds into oblivion. haha. I can just hear the angels singing. Loooove it!
Jerry and Layne definitely both shine sooooo damn bright on their own...but together....together?!? MAGIC! They really do compliment each other in such a beautiful, perfect way. The way they harmonize makes my heart melt. This is one song that succeeds in that every damn time......
<~~~ listening to BROTHER Unplugged
(soooo hooked on this song! I can't ever listen to it just once )
*screams from the highest mountain top*
I LOOOOOOOOOVE THIS SONG! Love, love, LOOOOOOVE this band!
{\BROTHER/}
Frozen in the place I hide
Not afraid to paint my sky with
Some who say I’ve lost my mind
Brother try and hope to find
You were always so far away
I know that pain so don’t you run away
Like you used to do
Roses in a vase of white
Bloodied by the thorns beside the leaves
That fall because my hand is
Pulling them hard as I can
You were always so far away
I know that pain and I won’t run away
Like I used to do
Pictures in a box at home
Yellowing and green with mold
So I can barely see your face
Wonder how that color taste
You were always so far away
I know the way so don’t you run away
Like you used to do
Like you used to do

i really don't think anyone else could sing that and make it sound so fucking good.
edit:
"Alone" with Eddie is one of the most beutiful recordings in history.
Eddie, Layne, and Jerry is the PERFECT vocal combitnation.
stunning.
Speaking of those two, my most memorable music moment wasn't at a concert..no..it was the dvd of the unplugged performence, and layne looks back and smiles at jerry.... i have never had so many chills...
and sludge factory!..my favorite unplugged song ever put on tape
Last night was a beautiful night just watching Music Bank dvd w/VEDHEAD27, truly amazing!! Just seeing the footage of the band (and a healthy lanye:() you just can't help it but go "awww"
And watching the videos...HOT DAMN!! Jerry and Layne in the Grind video....so beautiful! And their harmonies together is very magicial...not one to be replicated EVER!! That is what was SO special about AIC-the combination vocals of both Jerry and Layne. Grind is a FINE example of that...Layne's dark vocals mixed in w/Jerry's harmony...truly beautiful!! And that video, I am sorry to go off on that video, but how fitting is that that at the end of the video, the whole band is in heaven, and Layne is wearing a white suit...that, to me, is one of my favorite videos of all time!!
But how could we forget this song, SICKMAN! One of my favorites when I was 14, and still is!! LOVE Layne's voice in this song, when he goes "WHAT THE HELL AM I? THOUSAND EYES, A FLY"
*SICKMAN*
What the hell am i?
Thousand eyes, a fly
Lucky then I’d be
In one day deceased
Sickman, sickman, sickman
I can feel the wheel, but I can’t steer
When my thoughts become my biggest fear
Ah, what’s the difference, I’ll die
In this sick world of mine
What the hell am i?
Leper from inside
Inside wall of peace
Dirty and diseased
Sickman, sickman, sickman, sickman
I can see the end is getting near
I won’t rest until my head is clear
Ah, what’s the difference, I’ll die
In this sick world of mine
Can you see the end?
Choke on me my friend
Must to drown these thoughts
Purity over rot
(spoken in backround)
Yeah, though I walk through the valley of rape and despair
With head high and eyes alert
I tread on a plane of many
We who are of good nature and intention,
But cannot touch on the dark
Recesses of memory
And pain learned, so come walk
With me, feel the pain,
And release it...
What the hell am i?
Worn eroded pride
Saddened 10 miles wide
I’m gonna let it slide
Sickman, sickman, sickman, sickman
I can feel the wheel, but I can’t steer
When my thoughts become my biggest fear
Ah, what’s the difference, I’ll die
In this sick world of mine
Ahh, etc., etc.

That is mis-labelled as an AIC + Eddie song...its some other band.
It's a band called "Downface". Go on their site and you'll see the song. I discovered this a few months ago. Great song, but it's not Eddie or Layne.
My favorite song off of Facelift would probably be "Bleed the Freak":
My cup runneth over
Like blood from a stone
[CHORUS]
These stand for me
Name your god and bleed the freak
I like to see
How you all would bleed for me
When the pig runs slower
Let the arrow fly
When the sin lies bolder
I'll pluck out thine eye
[CHORUS]
If you scorn my lover
Satan got your thigh
If you steal in hunger
I will kick you when you try
[CHORUS]

Mind, of destructive taste
I choose...to stroll amongst the waste
That was your heart
Lost in the dark
Call off the chase
Walls of thought, strong and high
As my castle crumbles with time...
I think of you
Oh, yes I do
Such a crime
You opened fire...and your mark was true
You opened fire...aim my smilin' skull at you
You opened fire...
I live tomorrow, you I'll not follow
As you wallow in a sea of sorrow
Lines cut across my face
Why you laugh at my disgrace
I'll never know
How far to go
To reach that place
You opened fire...and your mark was true
You opened fire...aim my smilin' skull at you
You opened fire...
I live tomorrow, you I'll not follow
As you wallow in a sea of sorrow

w00t Alice In Chains..my favorite band of all time. I was never aware there were so many AIC fans though. Most people I know have never heard of them...and Godsmack needs to go choke on a nutsack. Those stupid AIC ripoffs...my favorite song currently, is Over Now...I'ma' go listen to all the Alice cds now...
Vedhead, thanks for giving this thread a well deserved bump! I will state once more that this band was nothing short of amazing at what they did. And no matter how many people attempt to copy or imitate this band, they will not succeed in doing so..AIC is one of a kind. Long live AIC!:D
Godsmack
Care not for the men who wonder
Straw that broke your back, you're under
Cast all them aside who care
Empty eyes and dead end stare
Don't you know that none are blind
To the lie, and you think I don't find what you hide?
What in God's name have you done?
Stick your arm for some real fun
For the horse you've grown much fonder
Than for me, that I don't ponder
As the hair of one who bit you
Smiling bite your own self, too
And I think that you're not blind
To the ones you left behind
I'll be here
What in God's name have you done?
Stick your arm for some real fun
So be yearning all your life
Twisting, turning like a knife
Now you know the reasons why
Can't get high, or you will die
Or you'll die
What in God's name have you done?
Stick your arm for some real fun
So your sickness weighs a ton
And God's name is smack for some

The biggest dream I have, is playing in an Alice In Chains Cover band. I don't want to be a rock star..I wanna' be in an AIC cover band. Will anybody join me?
I just can't describe my love for Alice in words. It's too incredible. Sometimes when I listen to some of their more mellow songs, it reminds me of Layne...unfortunately in a sad way...
I know what I'm going to do..I'm going totake a chance, and remotely try to describe my love for Alice In Chains. I will describe Alice In Chains, my favorite band forever, in a nutshell...Here goes..
Once upon a time, there was a band named Alice In Chains. They kicked ass...They had the perfect singer, Layne Staley, who could do shit that nobody could do. He had my favorite voice ever. They also, had a young man, named Jerry Cantrell, who could rip out a guitar solo, that was technical enough to make his solo sound good, but could still make it sound thrashy, and badass. They had a bassist, that played in their first 3 albums named Mike Starr, and for their last two albums, a bassist named Mike Inez who used to work with the Ozzy Osbourne, but went with Alice later on. He could pull out some good basslines and stuff, and could also play a lil' guitar and saxophone. They also had a drummer, by the name, Sean Kinney. He wasn't the greatest drummer ever, but was a solid drummer. He was always inventive with grooves, and was very solid behind the drums. Perfect for the band. All in all..they ruled the world.
Their first album Facelift was some heavy-metal shit, probably their most raw and heavy in many ways. This is the album that Godsmack rips off aswell. Godsmack has "Faceless" Alice has "Facelift". Those bastards! Anyways.. "We Die Young" is one of their greatest songs AIC made. The second Alice song I heard. (for some reason, I love it when Layne goes, "..and bury your BROTHERA" *guitar solo*). "Man In the Box" was a great song, with some kickass singing. Ie., "JE YEE YEE YEE SUS CHRIST". "Sea of Sorrow" was a damn fine song, with an almost Bluesy sound in it. "Bleed the Freak" is creepy as hell, with a nice flow..faster and slower faster and slower... "I Can't Remember" is a bleak, dark, deep, song. Very ghostly voices and guitar. in that one. "Love, Hate, Love" brings you in, and keeps you in, for about 6 minutes and 26 seconds. "It Ain't Like That" has a lighter, more drifting tone, but is crunchy at many times, like when they heavy riff comes in and just pushes down. "Sunshine" is my personal favorite song on there, with the very..sort of..different tone. Not quite Bluesy, because it's sorta' lighter than Blues. It's a very hard to explain song. It's an almost acidic song...but it's also a sort of just..brighter, and lighter song. I love it. "Put You Down" is a great song, with a light sort of Thrash sound. A very light Thrash sound, with a different tone. Fast and swooshing, with a sharp key. "Confusion" is a very nice song, and is more melodic and progressive than the others, with a sort of light and bright tone too. "I Know Somethin (Bout You)" has a sort of jammin', funky sound to it. "Real Thing" has an almost Elvis impression on it, with a lil' Van Halen sound in it, with Alice's own add to it. All in all, Facelift is a great album with their most Heavy material probably.
After that, came the nice set of songs that is "Sap". It's a short, but beautiful sort of thing. It's almost an acoustic album. Lots of guest singers too, like Ann Wilson,Mark Arm, and Chris Cornell.. "Brother" is a very melodic song, with a lil' heavy edge to it, dominantly Jerry Cantrell singing, and is probably my favorite song on here. "Got Me Wrong" is a very catchy tune, and is probably the most heavy on here, with a bluesy sound. "Right There" has Chris Cornell and Mark Arm as an added bonus, and they really add a nice sound to the song, and the song is stunning. "Am I Inside" is also a melodic song and is very nice. Then there's the added bonus track where the band does some weird, somewhat funny stuff.
Finally, came out a grand masterpiece, "Dirt". From head to toe, this is a great album. Of course Godsmack rips off this album too, with their logo and all. Oh welll...Anyways, this is probably the best album to start off with..it's the first Alice album I got and have always loved it. The first song it starts off with, is "Them Bones" which becomes hooked on you. It happens to be the first Alice In Chains song I ever heard aswell. It's short, heavy, and just damn good. It's a lot like "We Die Young". Not in sound, but it's around the same length, and is of course a great song to start off on. Second comes, "Dam That River" which is also a nice heavy song. Then comes the song "Rain When I Die" where you can hear some very hard rock riffs coming in that are more clear, but add to the exception of the distorted guitar notes. Then you have, "Down In A Hole" which is a very muddy, or as the album name suggests "Dirty" sound. "Sickman" is a great song, that pulls you all the way through, which is also a very muddy song. Then of course, comes "Rooster". Its lyrics are great, describing Jerry's father who was a Vietnam War veteran. It goes from a mellow sound, to a sort of screaming mellow sound. It's not too heavy, but not too soft. I love the part where they go "Yeah..they come to snuff the roosterrrrrrr". This one also pulls out some more hard rock riffing..Just all in all a great song. Next, comes "Junkhead"...it has some more heavy riffing going on, with Layne singing very sweetly, and melodically. The chorus too is very melodic, and Jerry and Layne fit together perfectly, along with the rest of the band. Like 4/4 of a puzzle coming together. "Dirt", the next song, is probably the weirdest, and more creepy of them all. The way Jerry distorts his guitar in there makes it a very chilling song, aswell as the way the voices sound. The bass is quite nice too, if you pay attention to it, and the drums are consistent...this is probably my second favorite song off of there. "God Smack" is a very cool song with a very wavy sound to it. Layne distorts his own voice in very good ways, and it gets deeper as it goes on, and changes in different places, to very different things. Yes, this is the song that Godsmack rips off of Alice In Chains. Then comes the lil' sort of weird thing they did "Iron Gland" which is basically crazed out, 43-second version of "Iron Man". After that comes, "Hate to Feel", which has a lot of slow-paced Black Sabbath influence, that is quite dark. And after that you have "Angry Chair", which I believe Layne Staley plays rhythm guitar on. His voice sounds really cool and echoing in the song. Next comes my favorite song off of here, "Would?". It has the most grinding, grungy sound off of the whole album. It truly is a great song. I really like the drum part on here for some reason too. It ends an incredible masterpiece perfectly.
Tomorrow..I will review "Jar of Flies", "Alice In Chains (Tripod)", and "MTV: Unplugged". It took me so long to write this so please give it a look. I would use the rest of my time writing about the other stuff, but my mom's making my go to bed. NOOOOOOO!!!! Oh well. Anyways, Alice In Chains rules, and will forever have put in a big puzzle piece, when it comes to music.
You can't talk Alice In Chains without talking about the so under-rated Alice In Chains album that came out in 1995... A grunge/pschydelic freak out masterpiece

Then you got hit

And yet I find
And yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can't be my own
I'd feel better dead
If you love AiC, I challenge you to watch Layne sing this on the Unplugged CD and not at least get a lump in your throat. It can't be done for anyone that loves them...TRULY loves them.

You're right.........I get chill bumps every time I see that man walk out and sit on that stool. It is crazy......it just gets me everytime!
The dirty south needs a fix.
Beautiful choice...this is my fave AIC song of all time!!!
Aww my fave AIC ever! So beautiful! Layne was such a talent. I miss u Layne :(
Seeing AIC for the first time set me on a different path.

Prepare for tending to your garden, America.
It's rare that bands can do that any more, huh? Rarely can you go to a concert with a band you've never heard before and just come out of there in amazement...and an instant fan. The only band to do such recently was Blonde Redhead, for me.
EV - St. Louis 7/1/11 ** Tulsa 11/19/12
{\BROTHER/}
Frozen in the place I hide
Not afraid to paint my sky with
Some who say I’ve lost my mind
Brother try and hope to find
You were always so far away
I know that pain so don’t you run away
Like you used to do
Roses in a vase of white
Bloodied by the thorns beside the leaves
That fall because my hand is
Pulling them hard as I can
You were always so far away
I know that pain and I won’t run away
Like I used to do
Pictures in a box at home
Yellowing and green with mold
So I can barely see your face
Wonder how that color taste
You were always so far away
I know the way so don’t you run away
Like you used to do
Like you used to do

Speaking of those two, my most memorable music moment wasn't at a concert..no..it was the dvd of the unplugged performence, and layne looks back and smiles at jerry.... i have never had so many chills...
and sludge factory!..my favorite unplugged song ever put on tape
And watching the videos...HOT DAMN!! Jerry and Layne in the Grind video....so beautiful! And their harmonies together is very magicial...not one to be replicated EVER!! That is what was SO special about AIC-the combination vocals of both Jerry and Layne. Grind is a FINE example of that...Layne's dark vocals mixed in w/Jerry's harmony...truly beautiful!! And that video, I am sorry to go off on that video, but how fitting is that that at the end of the video, the whole band is in heaven, and Layne is wearing a white suit...that, to me, is one of my favorite videos of all time!!
But how could we forget this song, SICKMAN! One of my favorites when I was 14, and still is!! LOVE Layne's voice in this song, when he goes "WHAT THE HELL AM I? THOUSAND EYES, A FLY"
*SICKMAN*
What the hell am i?
Thousand eyes, a fly
Lucky then I’d be
In one day deceased
Sickman, sickman, sickman
I can feel the wheel, but I can’t steer
When my thoughts become my biggest fear
Ah, what’s the difference, I’ll die
In this sick world of mine
What the hell am i?
Leper from inside
Inside wall of peace
Dirty and diseased
Sickman, sickman, sickman, sickman
I can see the end is getting near
I won’t rest until my head is clear
Ah, what’s the difference, I’ll die
In this sick world of mine
Can you see the end?
Choke on me my friend
Must to drown these thoughts
Purity over rot
(spoken in backround)
Yeah, though I walk through the valley of rape and despair
With head high and eyes alert
I tread on a plane of many
We who are of good nature and intention,
But cannot touch on the dark
Recesses of memory
And pain learned, so come walk
With me, feel the pain,
And release it...
What the hell am i?
Worn eroded pride
Saddened 10 miles wide
I’m gonna let it slide
Sickman, sickman, sickman, sickman
I can feel the wheel, but I can’t steer
When my thoughts become my biggest fear
Ah, what’s the difference, I’ll die
In this sick world of mine
Ahh, etc., etc.

It's a band called "Downface". Go on their site and you'll see the song. I discovered this a few months ago. Great song, but it's not Eddie or Layne.
My favorite song off of Facelift would probably be "Bleed the Freak":
My cup runneth over
Like blood from a stone
[CHORUS]
These stand for me
Name your god and bleed the freak
I like to see
How you all would bleed for me
When the pig runs slower
Let the arrow fly
When the sin lies bolder
I'll pluck out thine eye
[CHORUS]
If you scorn my lover
Satan got your thigh
If you steal in hunger
I will kick you when you try
[CHORUS]

•SEA OF SORROW•
Mind, of destructive taste
I choose...to stroll amongst the waste
That was your heart
Lost in the dark
Call off the chase
Walls of thought, strong and high
As my castle crumbles with time...
I think of you
Oh, yes I do
Such a crime
You opened fire...and your mark was true
You opened fire...aim my smilin' skull at you
You opened fire...
I live tomorrow, you I'll not follow
As you wallow in a sea of sorrow
Lines cut across my face
Why you laugh at my disgrace
I'll never know
How far to go
To reach that place
You opened fire...and your mark was true
You opened fire...aim my smilin' skull at you
You opened fire...
I live tomorrow, you I'll not follow
As you wallow in a sea of sorrow

Godsmack
Care not for the men who wonder
Straw that broke your back, you're under
Cast all them aside who care
Empty eyes and dead end stare
Don't you know that none are blind
To the lie, and you think I don't find what you hide?
What in God's name have you done?
Stick your arm for some real fun
For the horse you've grown much fonder
Than for me, that I don't ponder
As the hair of one who bit you
Smiling bite your own self, too
And I think that you're not blind
To the ones you left behind
I'll be here
What in God's name have you done?
Stick your arm for some real fun
So be yearning all your life
Twisting, turning like a knife
Now you know the reasons why
Can't get high, or you will die
Or you'll die
What in God's name have you done?
Stick your arm for some real fun
So your sickness weighs a ton
And God's name is smack for some
And sometimes is seen a strange spot in the sky
A human being that was given to fly...

Yeah, I saw that. Pretty cool. I like Lifeless Dead in the beginning..since that's my favorite Mad Season song. Barrett Martin kicks ass too.

Endless corporate ignorance lets

Once again you see an in
Discolored skin gives you away
So afraid you kindly gurgle out a date

Now the body of one soul I adore wants to die
You have always told me you'd

All who caused strife
Once again you see an in
