Just wanted to share my newly framed posters with you guys. If not for the info/inspiration I got from this thread, my posters would still be sitting in the closet because I was too cheap to have Michael's frame them. Gotta love americanframe.com.
Also, if anybody's got an extra Gorge poster laying around, let me know -- generally I'd only want the shows I've been to, but the Gorge 05 is nice.
What are the sizes on all those, if you don't mind me asking? And can you throw out a rough estimate of what it cost for each one through AmericanFrame.com? They all look really good, I think. Nice and simple ... black frames, single mat, and that allows the posters to work on their own.

Thanks. I did a couple of things differently than others might have: 1) the mats are only 1" wide versus the standard 2" (just a personal preference), and 2) had them cut the mat a little too close to the actual size of the poster which led to a slightly more difficult mounting (next time I'd give a little more wiggle room).
Anyway, I pulled the order details off americanframe. This should give you everything you want:
DC REEPER POSTER
17-7/8"W x 32"H (S20) Standard, Black
(Artwork Size: 15-7/8"W x 30"H) -- DO NOT ASSEMBLE FRAME --
Quantity: 1 Item Price: $13.25
How much do you all generally pay for a custom framing? I went the other day to a local store and even after a 50% discount she wanted $102.00. I walked out.
Is this crazy expensive, or am I just out of my element?
That seems a little expensive. I go to a place and I get a 33% off coupon every month. With good glass, acid free matte and midgrade frame it costs me $60-70 a frame. The ladies that work there like the Pearl Jam art work and say they have some pretty good art.
i have about 15 posters i would like to store in an art presentation case or portfolio. can anyone point me to a post that outlines some recommendations on the best ways to do this? basically, I want to know:
a) brands of presentation cases & companies that sell them
b) type of sleeves to store posters
c) should i use anything in addition to the sleeves to help protect the posters until i get them framed? i.e.- "framing corners" or something to prevent posters from adhereing to the sleeves
thanks for anyone's help...61 pages of posts in this thread is a lot to dig through, but i'm getting started!
St. Paul '92; Milwaukee '95; East Troy '98; Minneapolis '98; Bridge School '99; East Troy '00; Vegas '00; Council Bluffs '03; St. Paul '03; Winnpieg '05; Thunder Bay '05; St. Paul-1 '06; St. Paul-2 '06, Chicago-Lolla '07
Do you think the 50% off would apply to just having them put that foam backing on the poster?
I"m thinking of just getting that done and then doing the rest myself to save some cash.
To the best of my knowledge, Michael's and Hobby Lobby only offer the 50 percent off on the full custom-framing package.
If you want individual things, it's at the normal cost.
I do know that at my local Michael's and Hobby Lobby stores, Hobby Lobby will custom-cut mats for me without making me purchase the full framing package (at their normal price, of course). Michael's does not do that.
That way, if you want to save money on the frame or the backing or whatever, you could go in and have a mat cut to fit in a "standard" frame size, and then just buy a cheaper frame yourself.
I haven't had any of my posters framed yet..i have many. Should I frame them with similar frames and matings so they can be grouped together...or use a frame and a mating which enhances the poster? Any suggestions? What have other people done...which looks better?
Thanks

I just recently bought a portolio and archival sleeves. The portfolio is made by Itoya theres 48 pages that are 18x24" the pages are all acid free, it was 60$ Can. For the posters that were bigger than that i bought individual acid free archival sleeves, they are not Mylar but similar and can be sealed and unsealed a few times.

You might consider doing both. On one wall of my music room I have three posters that are framed with similar metal frames (slightly different colors to enhance the posters). On the other walls I have pictures and posters in frames that are very unique to each.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind...maybe grouping the ones that look best together..and keeping the ones seperate that look best alone.

If you're talking about dry mounting, don't do it! And also stay away from Michael's, period. Way overpriced, even with the 50% deals.
Check out http://www.americanframe.com for everything. From start to finish, you should, in theory, be able to get everything for under $40 per poster. You'll be getting acrylic (plexi-glass) instead of regular glass (too cost-inefficient to ship), but they have acid-free products and UV acrylic. All you need to preserve and protect, and they have a LOT of options. I cannot praise them enough

Its tough to get anything under $40 there anymore. Thats bare bones without matting and cheapest frame and plexi.
I just ordered material for my NJ 2 poster, with 1 matte, cheaper frame and it came to $45 with shipping. Still a great deal, though your gonna pay more if you want multiple mattes and uv protecting plexiglass.
And so you see, I have come to doubt All that I once held as true I stand alone without beliefs The only truth I know is you.

Yeah, I guess it can be over $40. I know they were running a free mat deal recently, so I guess that's what I had in my head. But yeah, it's still a great deal. And you save on shipping as you order more, if memory serves.
Oh, and damn you for getting a NJ2 poster! I NEED that!

I got lucky i was in t he box office gettin my tickets from the 10 C when the vendors started setting up their poster stand..yes, prior to the doors opening up for all those in line outside.
