The thing to remember too is that the average PJ fan maybe gets to see them live once or twice every couple of years. If you don't have the ability to save up $150 over the course of 2 years you've got some bigger problems.
are you fucking high? what acts are worth seeing under 70 a ticket?
I will be seeing the Black Keys in a couple of weeks for $25 and they put on an outstanding show. I'm not complaining. I was just stating that seeing my 2 favorite bands together makes this seem like a fair price considering I would gladly pay $35 to see Kings of Leon on their own.
Detroit '98 - Detroit '03 - Toledo '04 - Grand Rapids '04 - Kitchener '05 - London '05 - Grand Rapids '06 - Cleveland '06 - Detroit '06 - Chicago '07 - West Palm Beach - Tampa '08 - Toronto '09 - Indy '10 - Buffalo '10 - Toronto '11 - London '13
I didn't mean to turn this into a bitch thread. I guess I shouldn't have posted it the same day new ticket prices were out : ) I think $148/pair is a good deal. That's roughly $59 per ticket, plus say $30 in S/C (for the pair). Not bad at all.
To all you financial wizards out there I have a few comments as to your justification for ticket prices:
1. Inflation doesn't double your money in five years.
2. Gas prices have increased the cost of goods and I am sure it costs more to run a tour, but you don't pay double for a new cars because they were shipped via truck. Food prices, airfare, etc haven't doubled.
3. Many people certainly don't make as much as they did 5 years ago. Jobs are being shipped out of country and the service industry is increasing in the US (read food service and retail).
4. The housing market sucks. I am glad your home doubled in value but most of America has been crippled by a market downturn. In the same five year period, my condo lost 32% of its value.
5. We are certainly entering a recession and overall Americans are spending less on entertainment expenses.
6. Who cares if PJ became corporately sponsored? It doesn't cost me anything. So what if I see a Coke sign at the venue. As long as the CEO doesn't choose the setlist why should I give a damn?
That being said ticket prices are certainly within the market value of similar acts. Granted most of those have increased at a rapid pace as well. The only problem I have is that it does fly in the face of what the band stood for in the past and comes off as a bit hypocritical.
"pearl jam tickets $150 a pair.....
the pearl jam coloring book....$200

PRICELESS!!!!!!" -SpeedyMcCready...You may be banned but the message lives on!

Actually I was piss poor in 03'. I didn't have a salary.
I dont mean to be nasty but, a ticket is $74 unless you know a way to get out of paying the service charges.

Thank You. I'm willing to bet that most people posting do not have a mortgage to pay and kids to raise on top of worrying about getting laid off. 378,000 people filed a new unemployment claim last week. 22,000 more than the previous week, the largest one week of new claims in five years. People who bitch about prices have a legitimate claim to do so and anyone who thinks otherwise is nothing more than an asshole.
If $77 is too much for a concert ticket how much should they be? Is 50 bucks reasonable? If someone has trouble raising $27 then they have bigger problems. On top of that if people want cheaper shows, what would they be willing to give up. I mean if shows were %65 cheaper would you be ok with shorter show? Would you be ok if they played less cities? How about they only play in crap venues?

I think you are missing the point. If people lived by your thinking companies would charge whatever they want.
Is 9.99 too much to charge for an album on itunes? Should it be 7.99? If you have a problem raising $2 then you have bigger problems. If we used your logic nobody would have money for anything because companies would charge ridiculous prices & say but its only $15 more.

Companies pretty much do charge whatever they want, and if they find their prices are too high and they aren't selling enough product they lower the prices. The only reason prices are what they are for most products is because it is the most profitable price point. If apple could charge $30 an album on itunes and make a profit they totally would, but in if an album was $30 no one would buy it. If Pearl Jam shows didn't sell out shows they would lower prices, if they sell out they have no reason to lower prices.

if you can't afford it...don't go...
plain and simple...
we can sit around here all day and blame this, that, and the other, but if a person is concerned about their personal finances, that's on them...not the band or the 10C...
make better choices about your own personal finances and quit blaming...

People losing jobs in a recessed economy has nothing to do with their personal finance choices. I'm sure those 378,000 people asked to be laid off last week. Spoken like a true republican.
lame post.... Alot of people are struggling with finances.. it doesnt mean that someone should not go , just because they are having to scrape the monies up..
Man, i forget sometimes that most pearl jam fans are old as shit. Where is the love/compassion for college students/young adults starting out?

That is true, but at the same time if someone has to choose between concert tickets and either paying their rent or feeding their kids the tickets shouldn't even be considered.

ha ha ha haaaaa....a republican...!?!?!
nice...
listen, if you all worried about the 378,000, sell one of your houses and give them the money.....
seriously, do you think they should play for free...? how much is too much...
I'd be willing to bet those whining have vices (booze, coffee, and smokes) that they can scrap together every week, yet get all pissy with PJ doesn't play for free...

Very true. For the record, I'm not bitching about prices. I could care less. I'm just defending those who do because some people can understand where they're coming from. The higher prices mystifies a lot of people who were around when PJ had the ticket price crusade. Some feel slapped in the face.

I donate plenty to charity. I don't come to message boards to degrade people with lesser financial situations than myself ... Unlike others around here.

do you miss your salary from 5 years ago?
I do. My salary during the tech bubble was much more than I make now. Back then it was easy to demand obnoxious amounts of money.

I do think $75 for Pearl Jam is getting a little high.
Great post
