Back in 1998 we probably all hoped you’d be around for a couple of years, 27 years later we say thank you and farewell. Be well Matt. Best Wishes for the next chapter. Thank you so much. We all love you. Keep on Rockin’ in the Free World.
I love me some MFC! Sad, but kinda relieved though. The rumor that I was told before a flight to Nashville was that it was going to be a band members last show in Pittsburgh. They said it was gonna be Mike that was leaving. Maybe to throw me off. Love MFC, but no PJ without Mike.
I didn't take it seriously, but they insisted and said to do everything I could to get to Pittsburgh. Hmmm. Missed those.
I am not in the " know" at all, but I'm pretty sure the band has known for quite a while.
Bro, a heads up would have been nice. It does sound like you are in the know. If someone would have told me that, I would have been there. Sorry you missed it....but Nashville was great too.

Yeah. This is a dream fulfilled after seeing the first performance in June 1998!
I just hope the next drummer is unable to play any Dark Matter songs! And frankly, I don't go to PJ shows to focus on the drummer. It stinks that one of the guys is leaving, but drummer is most replaceable.
Honestly, I thought the band would break up after the 2000 tour. Every tour and album since then has been a gift, in my opinion. I'm a huge Matt Cameron fan and respect the hell out of him. Amazing human, too. Here's the silver lining, though. Any of the other 4 core guys want to hang it up, then this ride is over for sure. I don't think it's over yet.
Thank you Matt - not sure you are replaceable, you are a legend! Wishing you the very best for your next chapter….and as PJ opens a new chapter, wishing them the best as well. But I’m crying for us fans right now!

I was so lucky to have witnessed Matt Fucking Cameron behind the kit at every PJ show I went to. When he first joined the band, it got me super excited, but I realistically thought he would be in the band for a couple of years. 27 years later he is stepping down, which of course, is disappointing, but I am thankful for all the shows I got to see him play, both with PJ and Soundgarden. I hope everything is good health wise, which I am sure it is.
I have nothing but admiration for MFC, and am very thankful for the 3 hours plus, 35 song shows, I could not imagine how exhausting those shows were. The guy was a beast for this band!

Wanted to type a really long thing, but I'll spare everyone the corny shit.
Thank you Matt. You're one of the best damn musicians on the planet, and you've drove this engine for 27 years, playing 100's of different songs, sometimes at the drop of (Ed's) hat. You were a life saver for the band in '98, and you kept getting better and being more essential, every album, every tour. I would say the best Matt album is Dark Matter, and that's pretty freaking remarkable.
The thousands of hours of bootlegs and the proper albums are going to live with me 'til the end. Means a lot.
Both 14 year old and current 30 year old me can not process this news. Matt, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and unmatched talent. I am beyond grateful for the 11 times I was able to bask in the absolute force of nature that is MFC 🤘
I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. PJ will truly not be the same without you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
There are a hundred potential reasons this happened.
My hope is that Matt has simply decided he’s only got so many creative years left, and has some things he wants to do with that time. It could be health, it could be creative differences, it could be he’s decided to run for president, etc.
The band pretty clearly knew based on what many at the last show remember.
He was a badass drummer for 27 years. I hope he’s healthy first off, and I hope he’s happy. I ran into him at SeaTac year and he could not have been a nicer guy (on the tram to N terminal to a guy who simply said, Hi Matt, big fan).
Like many of you, this chink in the armor has been a concern of ours for a long time. I sure hope there’s at least one more good run in them of another album and 2-3 more tours total. No guarantees.
I’m going to try and pretend the new drummer will learn 250 songs quickly, and we’ll go back to 30 song setlists because he’s younger! But he won’t be MFC.
I poured one out and listened to DM front to back today in honor of Matt. Cheers!

Devastated.
Grateful.
All but 1 of my 41 shows, from Barrie in '98 to MSG last year.
The Letterman taping in 2000.
The RRHOF ceremony.
TOTD in NYC (caught a wristband) & Seattle.
Of all his records, I hold Gigaton in a different place. I disappeared into Gigaton during the pandemic, when I got dumped by my girlfriend and my job in a 4 month span and had nowhere else to go. It helped me dig out.
And finally, last year, when I crossed the last item off of my concert bucket list, as I saw the band in Seattle for the first time. Dream come true.
