In Montreal on the trans-Canada tour, I had a seat on Stone's side of the stage where I had a clear view of Matt at work. It was a different perspective for me, and I felt a special connection with the beat all night. I've seen a lot of shows, but that's one that really stayed with me. I'll miss him, and I wish Matt and the band the best as they move forward. Grateful for so many great shows.

The shortest setlists hopefully were the band trying to keep things healthy for Matt. On the flipside of that tho: playing some songs differently, closer to "original" tempo or arrangement... wonder if there was any friction there.  After 25 years,  rework a beat you've played hundreds of times?

I just know this:  new drummer, whomever that might end up being, might be able to play Evenflow, but Dark Matter songs are going to take some practice. Matt played his ass of on that album.
I think we underestimate professional musicians on here.

100% I’m not a professional drummer, in fact I would say I’m incredibly mediocre and I can play to DM. Which is not to say it’s not great drumming, it is, but it’s not difficult from a technical perspective.

Any real professional will be to handle it.

True, but whomever is going to the replacement is going to fill the shoes of a 2X Rock N Roll HoFer.

True but it still boils down to a drum part that any professional drummer will have no problem with. Just like Matt plays In My Tree a bit different from Irons there will be fills that a different drummer does that we might pick up on.

The bigger loss is Matt's song writing but I doubt that we will dwell on that too long.

Drummers are athletes. Playing at this level at age 62 is remarkable.  I know there is a lot of talk about getting Jack Irons, Dave Krusen, and some other suggestions.  All great drummers and no knock on their ability.  I'm hoping they try to grab someone with some gas left in the tank but will also mesh with the band personalities and roles.  Even if it's someone we've never heard of.

As a drummer and huge PJ and Matt fan this sucks massively. I'm also a big Soundgarden fan and I feel fortunate to have seen Matt live with both bands.

Cheers Matt for everything, and good luck with any future project's!!!

Has anyone discussed Dave Abbruzzese’s recent Facebook post about the matter?

That is just Dave looking for a job. The band discarded him many years ago. Not happening. And if it does, I will not be going.

Yes, and I read a little more in it. It sounds like the guy is also getting inundated with requests from people to reach out to Pearl Jam, to which it sounds like in his message is a silly request of people, although he doesn’t seem to harbor any sour feelings towards the guys

Just social media noise. And Dave taking advantage of it. He is a long way from playing with Pearl Jam. If the band thought that was a possibility they would have already reached out and told him to be quiet.

Respectfully, I just disagree a little on that. I don’t think he’s trying to take advantage of it, but more tell people to stop asking him to bring it up. Anyway, we will miss MFC!

Yeah, Get Right!  You tell Stone, Jeff, Ed & Mike that you'll "discard" them the way they "discarded" Dave years ago if they make a decision about THEIR band if you disagree. That'll teach 'em.

It is just internet noise and Dave capitalizing on it. Do we hear anything from Jack? I am sure he is getting the same messages. But no social media posts. Maybe a reason for that.

I am about ready. The MSG shows were not great IMHO. But it's like Silvio, just when I want to quit they keep pulling me back.

I'm still in shock about this news. We'll see from the "more to follow" comment if he cares to share with us...but if it's as simple as retiring, he's more than earned it and I wish him all the best in his retirement :) Think about this: he was the drummer for Soundgarden AND Pearl Jam. How badass is that?
Granted, he doesn't owe us an explanation ( :D), but I'm sure at some point he'll speak more about this decision*. I don't imagine there's any great scandal or backstory... I genuinely think after 27 years, he's ready to be done, and who can blame him? I think we all agree he's earned this... It's been one hell of a run, and I'm grateful I was here for it.

*Proly not with Rolling Stone though.

    Well said!
Heck, I'm older than Matt and I've never had the same job for 27 years, let along one requiring that much energy.

Well done, MFC, and thanks for all the great music!

It's weird. I know he's not the original member, but I remember going to the Oakland 2022 shows, and they put a massive effort into making those shows happen, and 1st one was actually quite good, because of overcoming the lack of Matt.  Still after the shows, I was like.. it's just not the same without Matt.   I guess he drummed so long he became an institution.

Best of luck to MC. An absolute beast.

I think Matt told the band a while ago, and I think they've already got a damn good idea who his replacement is. Perhaps already decided.

Thank you so much for being the glue of this band when they most needed it, MFC! Thank you for being the engine of this plane for 27 consecutive years! Take it easy, and enjoy your time with your loved ones! Even if you're feeling that you don't have much to say these days, we'll always cherish your musics (Skin Yard, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Pearl Jam, Harrybu McCage, Hater, Tone Dogs, Matt Cameron, 3rd Secret, Ten Commandos, Wellwater Conspiracy, Drumgasm, Nighttime Boogie Association) :star:

The only complaint I have about how this went down is, they should have in my honest opinion let the fans know that the 2025 spring shows would be his last! I bet some folks would have done anything to have seen him one last time! After the MSG show in September I thought ok I’ll get another shot at seeing them again.
