There is no reason a Canadian citizen should not come to the US to see Pearl Jam. Stop fear mongering. Go see the show!

Yes, there are reasons. It's not fear mongering - just reality.
I will not enter the USA now, for perfectly good reasons.

    What are they?

Well, people are being detained and deported just for having personal opinions against Trump now, so why in the world would any Canadian feel safe going there, or be willing to financially contribute to a nation whose government is doing that? That's not fear mongering. It's happening. Just this past Easter weekend two families that my own sister knows personally were held for hours and then banned from the US for 5 years, literally because they had a negative opinion of Trump. It's real dude. Calling it fear mongering is just being in denial.
Do you have a link for that story?   I can’t find anything
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

Boycott all you want, that is your right. 100% agree there is increased border enforcement. How did the CBP/immigration officers know that they had a negative opinion of Trump?

I don't know the details of the particular story mentioned above but there is a Canadian travel advisory in place warning people to travel with burner phones because the border guards are searching phones for stuff like this and detaining or barring people from entry based on what they find. Just regular people who are traveling for vacations.

I could be wrong but it's American CBP that's looking for anti-govt rhetoric from everyone not just Americans.

That being said a friend recently returned from a week in the U.K. where their return flight was out of Dublin which has U.S. passport control. They were cautious and deleted all social media and had no problem getting through. Then reloaded once they were waiting for flights.

    Better to be cautious.

We discussed whether or not to attend the Pitt shows because of current affairs between our countries and decided to still go.  Originally we were going to both Pitt shows but now are going only for the Sunday show.   If you are prepared to cross the border with all needed documents  (passports in hand, proof of tickets, and proof of hotel) you lessen the risk of experiencing delays.

It is F'ing ridiculous that our country has been reduced to this. We are swiftly turning into the kind of authoritarian State that we spent decades opposing. I can't blame our Canadian neighbors for not trusting our government, I don't don't trust them either.

No issues cleaning US customs at YYZ this afternoon. Barely spent 30 seconds with the CBP agent. Hand over my Canadian passport, take a picture, where am I headed and when will I return, retrieve passport and off - thank you very much.

Some people are scared of border agents and ICE.  The merits of that can be debated.

Others are boycotting and choosing to spend their money at home.  That’s not fear.

OK so skip a show to make a point that nobody will notice. Just saying, Canadians really have nothing to worry about. ICE is not worried about Canadians. They are worried about people coming through Canada from other countries. Have a Canadian passport and you will be fine.
    This is inherently false.
There are more and more stories of Canadians not being allowed in. For simple reasons like being told they weren't traveling with enough luggage.
Couldn't or didn't prove that they have anchors like a hown a home, hav3 a job, Canadian bank accounts, etc..

Someone I know lives in Ohio and used to commute every other week to Toronto for work. He'd leave on the first flight out on Monday AM and come back on basically the last flight on Thursday.

He'd take one backpack of clothes and the laptop/work bag.

     In 2025, that'd be a bit...unsettling at best.

Link? My sister knows these people personally. It's happening more and more every day - most people it's happening to aren't running to the media.

Not going to the US until Jan 20, 2029 at the absolute earliest.

    -don't need the potential hassle
-this has piqued my interest in exploring more of our beautiful country/keeping our money at home
-the US has been ripping us off with their fake currency for decades. /s

full disclosure-we had no plans after dropping a fortune last summer just going to Minneapolis for the Yacht Club Festival. But now we're definitely not making further plans to go.

Went through US customs at Toronto Pearson this morning.  They literally asked me one question and said have a nice day.

Looking forward to see if Ed will talk about the current political climate. Can’t stay silent. If he gets bold, I may be tempted to cross the border and go see one of the shows to support him.
