So much wasted time, money and energy by so many on all levels in various countries all so the man baby can try to claim a W. It's a lowly and despicable way to do business. I know, I know, morals and ethics don't matter to these people.
    It's a hopeless situation...

And the personal stress he puts on these federal employees at USAID and the FBI is just ridiculous. Career federal employees deserve better than this piece of shit. It's all smoke and mirrors and he's playing with their financial well being.

Like it or not, politics is a dirty business in the US. To think otherwise is to be naive. Trump made a promise to levy tariffs if our neighboring countries do not allocate more resources to border security. He kept his promise in less than a month. The efficacy remains to been seen and it is likely his executive orders would not withstand judicial scrutiny, but he made a promise and kept it. I cannot say that about many politicians in the US.

I think the real issue is that he would be willing to throw the good economy out with the boarder issue bathwater.

especially since boarder crossings aren't really an issue right now.

and as that NYT article last fall revealed, the Biden admin had been negotiating with Mexico and Central American countries to reduce migrancy.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/mexico-stopping-three-times-as-many-migrants-as-last-year-rcna146821

Yeah, politics is dirty and rough, but also recklessness is stupid and whether you believed this was a bluff or not, its reckless and demonstrates his unfitness for the office.

Exactly. Unfortunately it's seems there are a lot of people that think Trump's approach is effective just because it makes lots of noise.
    It's a hopeless situation...

As I said, the efficacy remains to be seen. And it is not the recorded encounters that are the issue. It is the unrecorded ones that are the issue. It seems 10,000 additional troops will be deployed by Mexico to strengthen border security. It remains to be seen if that will actually happen, but that is more than just noise if it does. The hard question is how do we know if it ever does?

And your comment is Not exactly true when taken in context,  per the AP:

“Unlike during the 2024 campaign, when Trump billed his economic agenda as guaranteed to reduce the cost of living for Americans, the Republcan president now is acknowledging what many economists have long forecasted: that the levies could yield higher prices and lower supplies across the market.”

My comments address his actions on tariffs regarding border security, not economic impact of tariffs on US citizens with respect to the importation of tangible goods or the cost of living. It does not take much manipulation of facts to assess the financial impact of fentanyl being imported into our country, whether direct from China or through our North American neighbors. And all politicians manipulate facts to support their agenda.

Canada is an open border with no fence. Republican supporters are out of their minds if they think Canada is a significant contributor to the immigration problem.

So in your republican logic, let’s tank our economy to solve ten percent of the immigration problem, maybe.

Alright, now I'm pissed.  I recently moved, a couple weeks ago had my first haircut in the new location.  Latino owned and operated barbershop, the best fucking cut I've ever had in 47 years alive.  My man knew what he was doing with a clipper and blade.  I will be going to him for as long as I live here.  I just went there again, don't even need a cut but dude was so fresh I went up for a Superbowl Birds cut anyway.  I drive to Philadelphia on Wednesday for Bowl weekend.  Fuck work, I'm going up for a cut.  Holy shit, the place is pitch dark.  Now I don't want to jump to conclusions, but if they are closed again tomorrow I'm going to have a hard time not wondering if they are closed in fear.  For context they spoke little, to no english.  Ironically, my first cut was on 1/20 and they were watching trump inauguration on the TVs in spanish, all speaking in spanish.  This is not some hole in the wall place, it is a nice storefront shop, in the heart of a nice town.  I've driven by numerous times day and night, always open.  Open 7 days, until 8 pm.  Dark as night today.  I will see what tomorrow brings.  But I'm pissed.

If I could see him right now, I would punch Trump right in his fucking throat.

The drugs crossing the Canada/US border to the US account for like .0002% of all drugs smuggled into the US. Trump is a moron.

So what has Trump accomplished with this tariff war so far?
    - Turned the west against him even more
    - unsettled the stock market
    - decreased US tourism
    - decreased purchasing of US goods in Canada and Mexico and the EU
    - increased political solidarity in Canada, Mexico, and the EU
    - added 10,000 Mexican troops at the southern border
    - forced Canada to overspend on border security for an essentially irrelevant impact (not that i argue against the illegal drug trade or illegal immigration - nobody does, and nobody ever has)
    - destroyed America's good relationship with its strongest trading partners

    Awesome. Bravo to the GOP.

Agreed. And I just read that, since Canadians quite appropriately booed during the national anthem during a couple of sporting events in the last few days, Americans decided to boo the Canadian anthem during a Senators/Predators game in Nshville. So add to the list that Trump has managed to stir resentment between Canadian and American citizens, while American citizens have no logical reason to feel such a thing under the circumstances. Trump is poison.
