I mean, yeah, all of this sucks, but guess what, most people don't give a shit, especially the 70 million + who voted for Tusk. They're ecstatic at all of it and you've seen the responses even here. We're going to bow to Russia, dismantle funding to research and consumer protections and watch as morally bankrupt Republicans, and supposed Democrats (Mayor Adams), enrich themselves with loosened foreign bribery guidelines and a truly weaponized DOJ against enforcing federal corruption. It's amazing to see so many willing to go all in for the almighty dollar.
    It's a hopeless situation...

Who in this world can trust the nited States at this point? From its citizenry, to its elected representatives and on to its “leadership?” If I’m an EU, Asian or North American, or CentralSouth American government, I’m looking elsewhere for solutions, whether inward and/or new alliances. The S is no longer the world’s indispensable leader or protector of democracy and democratic principles.

This is pretty much true. The only way a critical mass of MAGA people ever recognize what’s going on is if it gets so bad that there’s no going back.

I had a talk w a coworker about this today.  If indeed there are made up jobs or someone getting paid to do nothing like the mob did then I am all for cutting bait with those jobs.

What I do have a problem with is it is a direct assault on the middle class.  The govt does keep people employed and there is waste.  As long as it doesn't send the economy and people into homelessness I'm ok with it though.

Something I did bring up is if these jobs are removed and there aren't any new places they can fill with them then they will be using the system to help them sustain their bills.  If they decide to cut that out then the US economy will surely go to shit.

There are always reactions to what happens and the markets will follow suit.

Something that puts my job in direct crosshairs is DEI.  We are a WBE and get contracts based on that.  We might have to shut doors if all this comes to fruition.
I know a lot of government/city workers who admit they work about actual 10-20 hours a week. The rest of it is wasted time. They can do the job of 2-3 people, but it's just over staffed.
About 15 years ago I had a room mate who worked for the sanitation dept. They got a 6 month intern working for the mayor of LA and took a leave from their regular job. When I asked how they get someone to fill in for her 6 months, she said no one would need to. If you can leave your job for 6 months and no one needs to fill in, then your job probably isn't needed. I've always assumed there's a lot of that in government work.

I didn't say people say that about government workers. I said I've known government workers who say that about themselves. There's a big difference.

Yea, teachers have it so easy. Every summer off. Two weeks at Christmas. Plus all the other holidays.  A week in February and April and thanksgiving is just about a week, plus those half days and “development” days. And a six hour day. Always complaining about benefits and class sizes. If college profs can teach classes of 150, why not teachers? Teach all kids science, math and history in the cafeteria and bam, you can reduce public teachers by a third, at least. Maybe more. Constant complaining about language barriers and too many kids from other places attending school, what do they care if the kid passes or graduates? It’s not like they have to house or feed them after they pass through, right?

Something I did bring up is if these jobs are removed and there aren't any new places they can fill with them then they will be using the system to help them sustain their bills.  If they decide to cut that out then the US economy will surely go to shit.

There are always reactions to what happens and the markets will follow suit.

Something that puts my job in direct crosshairs is DEI.  We are a WBE and get contracts based on that.  We might have to shut doors if all this comes to fruition.
I know a lot of government/city workers who admit they work about actual 10-20 hours a week.
You know a lot of government and city workers who admit they work as little as 10 hours a week?
I did about 15 years ago when I lived in LA. My roommate worked for the city and I met a lot of her work friends at the time.
And yes, many of them would talk about how they don't even show up every other Friday and nobody cared.
So my experience was limited to LA city workers in that respect, But I knew or met quite a few over the several years I was there. I don;t remember any of them complaining about being over worked at the time. Maybe it's different in other cities.

A lot of people say that about teachers too....probably not real accurate.
I really hope this is sarcastic. Takes a special kind of person to educate children, especially these days. I have deep admiration for them. They get paid next to nothing here in Canada.

    We don't get veteran's or president's day off anymore. It's a shame.

He is, just poking fun at me for criticizing government workers. Don't take it literal.

I didn't say people say that about government workers. I said I've known government workers who say that about themselves. There's a big difference.
I don't doubt that there is some of that. A city has to staff for worst case scenario. If they determine X number of jobs are too be filled then that's what they budget for.

Sometimes my staff only work 20 real hrs a week but it doesn't make sense for me to lay them off and lose them.
