They need to stop dicking around with the ticket manipulation and just acknowledge that the demand isn't what they were hoping for.  Over inflating the prices ten fold to try and trick people is lame and isn't going to work.  Holding back thousands of tickets to fake that the show is sold out is also idiotic.

The fact is, there are tons of tickets for Raleigh that are listed for $25 UNDER face value ON STUBHUB and still aren't selling.  That's right. A scalper site is getting no movement on tickets under face value, but Ticketmaster shows the only seats available for that same show are in Stall 4 of the Unisex bathroom for $900.

TM and PJ need to stop with the F-ing games.
    I haven't seen any tickets for $74...
$74?  Face value thru TM for Raleigh 2 sec 302 is $175.  Same section on stubhub is $158

People couldn't give away their Wrigley 2024 seats come the day of the show.....

But, Pearl Jam is not to blame. This is 100% a Ticketmaster move.  There have been countless artists who they have held back entire sections for like this.

Pearl Jam can do nothing about it.  They are bound by Ticketmaster.  Getting the entire GA Pit allocated to 10C is more than most bands get.
Everything in the world can be negotiated.  The fact is, PJ is on board with this process as there is no evidence to show otherwise.

They are just looking out for their crew members when they negotiate the contracts.

They would have sold those seats on the day of the public sale easily. Now they will sit there for a long time. All so they can fake scarcity and sell some premium tickets. They are using a selling tactic that creates panic and impulse buying.

I never thought I would see the day with PJ bending over for TM like this.
I know they hold tickets back & I understand why, but how is it legal for them to do that? Because they own the rights, etc?  Perhaps this has been discussed before?
I get holding tickets back for friends and family and other reasons like contests etc. This is different. This is to trick people into thinking a show is sold out so they can sell higher priced tickets. Pearl Jam has their name tied to this.

I don't care about the argument of Premium is needed to keep most ticket prices low. Thats another argument all together. Trying to trick the consumer into paying way over face in fear of a show being sold out is not something I thought I would ever see with Pearl Jam tickets. There are so many posts on social media with people sick to their stomach impulse buying tickets they can't afford because they got caught up in the moment. Sure we are all adults and make our own decisions but sale tactics like this that exploit people during the chaotic time of a public sale is something I wish this band was not apart of.
Like I said, I understand why tickets are held back, but is it legal for TM or the band to do that? Free market? IDK? I'm sure it is. I don't get too upset about it anyways.  I expect NOTHING from TM at this point.

I would suspect it's legal.  If you manufacturer a good, there's now law saying you have to make all the units available at the same time.  You can sell your good as you please?
That is generally true unless you have a monopoly. TM has been playing these games for years and lawmakers just do not seem to care about concert/event tickets. What is surprising is the lack of demand.
The government has a pending antitrust case against TM/Live Nation. Will be interesting to see if the new administration drops it. These are complex issues but I don't see the pricing as the product of a monopoly. The artists/promoters set the prices for any given event. Not every venue uses TM for primary ticketing. Some use Seatgeek for example. I believe Barclays center is one that switched to Seatgeek for primary ticketing but then went back to TM after a few years because Seatgeek's service quality was worse. Holding back tickets could drive up the price for an event, but that has nothing to do with a monopoly. If Seatgeek was the primary ticketer for these shows it could do the same thing, and no one would argue that seatgeek is a monopoly. There's certainly competition in the secondary market. The same tickets are often listed on TM and four or five other sites. Again, the base price is set by the seller but the add-on fees differ. It's easy to comparison shop and buy from someone else if TM is significantly more expensive, although you'd be taking a risk of fulfillment issues with stubhub and the like. Ultimately it's the popularity of the artist and limited supply that drives up pricing for some events. If the artist is playing one night in a 15,000 capacity venue and 150,000 people want to attend, it's not rocket science to see why the tickets get marked up. Monopoly isn't the reason.

I do not have much faith that anything will happen with the pending case, particularly under the current administration and Congress. Of course market prices drive the resale price. Why do you think TM withholds the tickets? You cannot compare Seatgeek to TM as without TM there would be no Seatgeek or any other reseller. TM controls all the tickets. Moreover, much of what is offered on secondary sites is speculative, and may or not be reliable. What TM is doing is engaging in restraint of trade by withholding tickets which no one else has access to, pricing tickets based on forecasted demand, charging outrageous fees with no competition, and controlling most of the venues in the United States without competition. Call it what you want but those are potential Sherman ACT violations. I would guess some states could argue that TM has a monopoly over each and every venue where it controls the sale of all tickets. There is no competition for those venues.

I do not want to have another back and forth. They control the price and distribution of tickets in the US, save for a few companies/venues. Even monopolies have to lower prices and release inventory if no one is buying.
