I also get why they don't! Confrontation sucks. Especially when it involves your favorite band. Anxiety goes through the roof.
All things considered, even with all this drama, we're still more cordial with each other than Bruce fans (I would also say DMB, but I haven't been to one of their pits in years).
One thing's for certain: we're ALL nicer to each other than 311 fans 😤
Lemme tell ya...you would be shocked how many 311 shows I've been to and that crowd is too baked to notice anyone else is there

No holding spots for plus ones.  Hell no.   Put the time in.  If your friend or partner can’t wait with you, then either go solo up front or arrive with your friend.

If you're not one of them, then none of that is on you. Keep going to every show you can, have a great time & may the fates bless us all. Hell, may you get a Stone, or Jeff pick.
Maybe come and say hi the next time you’re in or near the GA line. Anyone come and say hi. I’m usually in something Buffalo Bills related and often have things I make to hand out to the PJ community.
I thought that was you. You are awesome!! And, I agree with everything you have been saying. I have had so much fun camping out. I have met some incredible people like you. To me, it is part of the whole experience. Hope to see you on the rail this tour as well.

Good luck with the lottery! Can’t wait to see you again!

I don’t think the band has indicated this anywhere but any fan is welcome to line up for GA as its first come first serve. My first GA was San Diego 22 and I didn’t know anyone and just got in line. It was really that simple, no one made me feel unwelcome because I was new.
They literally implemented the 1,2, 9,10 random rule for this purpose and then went back to GA, come on man.
How about they go back to this? It doesn't have to be for every tour.

How about making the first 5 rows a Lottery? or 10 rows?

How about they just keep GA but keep track of who wins and not allow multiple winners over a certain amount of time?

I'm 0 for about 20 in trying to get GA (Northeast I understand the odds are slim)

Because someone who pays for a pair of tickets and invites a friend should be able to wait in line for that friend. It is unreasonable that a person who is willing and able to get in line early should be barred from doing so because their friend can't come until later. Again, don't abuse it, but a person queueing up for their actual plus-one seems perfectly appropriate.

Do you think that someone who arrives early to a movie should not be allowed to enter the theater and claim a seat for himself and for a friend who cannot arrive as early?

  • If people want to be up front more power to them- they dedicate a lot of time in hopes for a tambourine or guitar pic and a chance to get a drop of Eddie and Stone’s sweet on them.

I am shocked that people do it every show though- it’s a fun experience once or twice but seeing every show from there is weird to me.
The sound is subpar at best and you do not get to experience the full light show.

The camaraderie aspect I can see, but for me after seeing shows for 25 years I’d much rather meet up with PJ friends at a cool local bar/brewery in a place I’ve never been (or rarely been) where there will inevitably be other like minded music fans as well, rather than spending 8 hours in line to be close to a bunch of dudes in their 50’s/60’s.

They're also not showing up for a movie more than an hour or two in advance unless it's a big hit. You can also see that same movie a few days later and get the same exact experience.

The problem being that someone could be 75 in line...or so they think. Now they're 150 in line.

What could be two people back is four people back.  If they're four people back because 2x as many people are having spots held, what's the point of showing up at 8am when they could have been there at 4pm?

I do like the DMB system. Have a random fan pull a number. The person who's number matches that is first all the way to the highest. #1 is after the highest. (Say there's 200 people in line. #171 is drawn. They're first. #1 is after #200 and then #170 is last.)

You must enter this with your #1. If they're not there, they can enter with public doors.

And whoever mentioned Let's Play Two and the guy being there four days earlier...that's accurate, but he had a personal reason (no tambo, wine, etc) and it's also one hell of an outlier to be there more than 24 hours before on-stage time.

I know many of the people you are speaking about and can say with conviction that they are shady and sneaky. They keep "lists" and if you are  not one of their friends you are ignored and given incorrect information. There are about 15 of them broken up into smaller groups and they act as if only they are allowed to stand in certain spots.
They are entitled jerks who spoil the experience with their attitudes. When you are two or three people who refuse to move this group will glare at you and at one show they poured a drink on someone's head.
10C really needs to address this shit. This is not the first time it had been brought it to the clubs attention over the years.

Also, whoever was making Swiftie style friendship bracelets at various shows last year? Bless your heart. Another bright spot.

They were about ten feet behind me last night and it was very cool seeing Ed enjoying the show.

I do not do GA anymore. But give me better seats! The rail people will do what they do. I am ok with it as long as they do not exclude fans to be there. No saving spots. The idea of a rail gang, which happens with some bands, is not cool. In fact I would hope that folks would want to share that experience with new people.
There is spot saving. People taking extended breaks at their hotel to wash up, have a bite, and sometimes take care of work! Every single show. I know because they let me do it at REDACTED (and it was much appreciated).
    It's all self-governed.
And yes, they do let the occasional friend in who DIDN'T put in the time, but only when doors are about to open. No one speaks up about it in line, because the hardcores are at virtually EVERY show.
A few guys (names withheld) help keep a list (not every time, only when needed). When rules are enforced by a venue (like Vegas), they make sure everyone is on the same page as to when/if they have to disperse, that they'll line up in the same order they were in before said line is moved (or dissolved).
There's also PJ crew who are friendly with them, considering the amount of time spent together. I mean, I get it.
I'm not entirely against it, I just think everyone should be upfront about it at this point. Like "yeah, we do this. Like it, or don't. Join us, and put in the early arrival time, watch our spot & we'll watch yours."
Why try & pretend it's not a thing anymore? We all see it every show. Meanwhile, 10C & the band turn a blind eye to it. And why not, really? They're still getting paid ;)
Name names then, I’m at a lot of shows so I’d like to know who you’re calling out if this is happening where the “hardcores” let friends into the line who weren’t there.

Yes hardcores leave to go to the bathroom, get food, or take a shower. People who didn’t camp do the same thing. If we’re to the point where it’s unfair if people are only there for 46 of the 48 hours then alright, complain to the 10c.
Transparency comes from within. And I am most definitely not within, lol. I've made peace with it, but we should all be honest about it at this point. As far as 10c is concerned, again... memberships have been paid, and tickets sold. They won't do anything unless there's a big fight, or if someone gets caught selling their spot ala "The Line Guys" in NYC.
    Business as usual.
This is such a cop out. I don’t know who you are yet you seem to be aware of the comings and goings of me and my friends in the GA line. I invite anyone who wants to experience how insanely incredible it is to be on the rail to line up with me and I will make sure you have everything you need to make the line experience enjoyable.

I care a lot about this. It’s the thing I look forward to the absolute most out of anything and it’s not JUST becsuse of the 2.5 hour show it’s because of the people I met doing it who are legitimately great people: “the people who are always up front”, “rail mafia”, “entitled” and other things we’ve been called.

I don’t want the system to change which is why I sometimes comment on posts like this here or on fb. I’ve seen a lottery destroy the experience for the other band I love. I’m sorry if I’m entitled because I use 90% of my vacation to do this, it’s THAT important to me and the other people who you always see.

People talk about how we “take care of each other” but in reference to shenanigans. What it means to me is when someone offers you food, to use the bathroom at the $200/night hotel they got across the street, or a mattress when yours pops a leak, or a ride to the next show for nothing, or all the people not on the rail they change places with so they can experience it for a song or two.

It’s just really frustrating to have this reputation for being an asshole or gaming the system because we’re always referred to as a collective rather than calling out bad eggs, and it puts what the majority of us love at risk when false narratives or incomplete pictures are reported to the 10c or the PJ community as the blanket way things are. So no I’m not going to “be up front about it” and acquiesce that your perception is also my experience because it’s not.
Explain to me how things get ruined if they start drawing numbers?

The fact that this post is getting so much attention in just one day is justification enough that this is a problem.

Things get ruined = we will have new faces on the rail.

I've done both. I've met and know many who queue every show also those who don't.
I've had arguments with line Nazis and also some of the best nights ever sleeping out.
Depends which country you are in and what you want to do with your time. I've toured cities to sight see and other occasions spent the whole time in a queue . No regrets either way.

I asked the question after Ed  mentioned in Philly how he sees the same people up front on how the same people keep winning ga lottery.  Odds don’t compute especially for northeast shows,  yet apparently they do

I know how obsessive people can get so I wouldn't be surprised if all sorts of shenanigans happen. Thing is you're only bumping into this if you're fighting for the same real estate yourself. I've heard all of these stories over the years and am not interested in dealing with any of it. Just waltz in when the opener is going on - you will get a good enough spot and not encounter any of this.

The only that bothers me is that some of them lie to get GA tix. I've had them lie to me in order to get one of my GA tickets - I was looking for a ticket buddy and specifically said I was seeking someone who was attending the concert alone. They lied through their teeth about it - as soon as they had my ticket in their greasy hands they ran to their gang of rail hogs and abandoned me. And they were totally shameless about it. They were literally celebrating and laughing about what they'd managed to do while I was standing there like a chump. And then in the pit they had the nerve to act like were all friends. These are the things those people do to always get GA. What this does for me to not want to be in the pit at all anymore, because I don't want to be anywhere near these freaks. I'll stick with seats from now on, and I'm really really glad you can now buy singles. I hope that is really screwing with their rail quests, lol.

    ^that sucks

I'm one of those weird non-facebook people, so I do miss out on the groups there. I know the networking is larger there, but I really prefer doing what I/we can to help out folks here on these forums.
