I have traveled many miles to hear some great music and enjoy one of the best festivals around. Is it too much to ask EV to sing not preach? Politics is blasted at us daily, this weekend should be a nice break from it. To those of you who will give me the standard "Pearl Jam has always been vocal about issues, if you don't like it don't go to their shows" - that is a ridiculous statement so don't bother posting. I have been listening to PJ longer than you have been alive.

The reel to reel bootleg of that 1969 show was fucking sick. Thanks to SS for sharing that.
Where would we be without fans who've been listening to Pearl Jam since before we were alive.

Going to public spaces and not being affected by the current sociopolitical climate and a recent very unpopular decision that was made by the Supreme Court is unfortunately a privilege less and less people have these days.
Women having bodily autonomy shouldn’t be “political”. Reasonable gun control laws to keep our kids safe shouldn’t be “political”. They’re really not saying anything that isn’t totally agreeable for anyone with a shred of empathy. Just spreading love and community.
I wore my WE AREN'T GOING BACK hat... so did you see me OP and did it bother you? Oh yeah..I also had a pin from the Planned Parenthood booth? Hope that irritated you too, OP

All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.

And they always have been. If the original poster has been listening for more than 49 years-- i.e., longer than I've been alive-- and has somehow missed this, then he is extremely oblivious. "All the bills go by and/Initiatives are taken up/By the middle/There ain't gonna be any middle any more"-- does the OP think this was about the interior defense of the Seahawks or something? I'd bet the OP is a "W.M.A." as well. Does he think that song is about the William Morris Agency?
Here is the thing, OP: you don't have a problem with an artist expressing political views. You have a problem with an artist expressing political views that you disagree with.

I think it's perfectly fine to disagree with some of their positions (as I do) but the onus is on you, as an adult, to buy the ticket or not. It's pretty goofy to think that you should have any input about what comes through those speakers.
If you don’t want politics you shouldn’t go see the guys live. It’s always going to be prevalent with EV.
If you don't want politics, you shouldn't listen to their music.The. Songs. Are. Political. They have been from the beginning. Some people are oblivious about this, but it remains true.
Pearl jam and IDLES? You don't want politics, or socially relevant issues? Do you want any lyrics, or should they just play instrumental versions if their songs?

Interested in hearing what makes this quote ridiculous.
OP says he's been listening to the band longer than we've all been alive. The band has a 33 year track record of letting their political stance be known at shows and in their music.
It seems like a pretty logical stance if you really don't want to hear it. The OP has full control with his own topic.
It's not a binary thing political or non-political. Every song, interview, banter, or statement sits on a spectrum from subtle to hamfisted, moderate to radical. And that can vary by issue. These things change over time too. For example not every show is 03 Uniondale.
So "hur dur they've always been political" is pretty reductive and misses the point. Especially their music which is generally pretty clever politically.
I also feel like, on balance, Ed has moderated quite a bit at live shows over the last 10-15 years. At least the shows I've been to. Whenever I hear someone gripe about it nowadays I'm like buddy your head would have exploded 20 years ago.
