Imagine supporting a candidate who wants to use tax payer dollars (money that you worked for that was deducted from your paycheck whether you wanted or not) to perform sex change surgeries for prison inmates and illegal immigrants.

What is the real story behind this "sex changes for prisoners" narrative?

My take was that Harris basically just said if someone is currently under a doctor's care then that care should still be available to them if incarcerated. Then the GOP ran with it into the normal idiocy.
My understanding is that it comes down to Medicaid covering it or not, which in several states it does to a certain level. (Including Mississippi and Florida) Whether someone’s incarcerated doesn’t make a difference.

its funny how maga takes an issue that impacts less than 100 people in any given state and makes it this huge issue and then that becomes their line of attack on a presidential candidate. they can't win on things like, say, obamacare reform or inflation reduction, something the impacts most americans, but here they are making an issue out of something that impacts less than 500 people nationwide.

I'm in Charlotte heading to SFO right now.  Was in the American club and this old guy (72, he said) at the bar behind me started complaining about how kids don't listen these days and when he was a kid,  blah blah blah.  And then he said the Civil Rights Act was the worst law in US history because it only allowed kids to ignore their parents.  I turned around and laughed right at him. These people are nuts.  They are utterly clueless.

honestly though, he could have said it was the worst law for other reasons and i would have been more angry about it.

This is a good reminder that the cruelty is the point. That's like my dad telling the story of how his brother told "the old man" no once, and "the old man" threw him down a flight of stairs (this was deemed an appropriate reaction). Might makes right, etc.
Also: the Civil Rights Act is sixty years old, which means it was a thing when this dude was a kid.
All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.

It's a smoke screen,  right wing style.  Criticize a law using absurd logic. At the end of the day,  it's a dig against the law, period. It has no application to children and parents other than outlawing segregated schools.

  • Pretty good article talking about Springfield, OH, the issues and the differing opinions of the influx of Haitians there. HuffPost, I'd agree, leans fairly liberal but this article seems to do a good job of gathering all the viewpoints.

crazy magats....my wife and I were just talking about this yesterday. I don't have a Harris sign but no fucking way would I put it out in my hood in this environment.

Sixteen years ago someone pulled up my Obama sign and brought it to our front door. The guy told my wife that "we aren't allowed to have political signs" in the neighborhood. She asked him if he was going around pulling up all the McCain signs as there were several around. Of course he had no answer for that. She put it back out and he didn't come back.

Do you recall May 31, 2020 in DC?  Do you recall the Summer of BLM? BTW, show me some Trump telling people to enter the capital using violence? In fact, Twitter took down his video telling people to go home and cooperate with authorities. Wonder why they did that?

why? Because it incited further violence. He said that the election was fraudulent.

yeah i hear ya. someone gave me a lawn job and ran over my john kerry sign one year. also had my obama sign stolen in 2008. have not put a sign up since. don't really need to at this point. my neighbors know my politics. these days you put a harris sign in the front yard and someone may shoot your windows out.

I don't think you can be reasoned with. You're comparing protests and unrest related to yet another event between police and minorities that occurred regardless of political affiliation with the continued lies, xenophobia and hateful rhetoric of a president and candidate for president without any verifiable evidence of a crime or wrong doing. The minority community acted out and garnered support from those who recognize there is still inequity in how black men and women are treated by law enforcement. Pull your head out of the sand. Trump didn't send any message for 2 hours and when he did, the message didn't condemn the violence so he was forced to send another one. He's the fucking president, he could have sent in the same national guard he tried to berate governors and mayors in blue cities about the previous year. He knew they were his supporters and acting on his behalf. No accountability as usual. Can you imagine working for someone like Trump? What a complete piece of shit. Seems Mike Pence finally figured it out and so did most of his cabinet.

Maybe educate yourself and read the timeline for January 6th again. I think you have selective memory.

He organized a rally, saying it would be wild, convinced over 50 million republicans the election was stolen, told them at the rally to fight like hell or they wouldn’t have a country any longer, and then waited about 3 hrs to tell the beautiful people to go home.

How many violent BLM rallies did Hillary organize?

Begs the question.  Do we really have free speech any longer? I don't believe we do.

I wouldn't put a sticker on my car, or a sign in my yard, for fear that my life would be in jeopardy.

We do. It’s just occasionally the consequences can be more severe.
