Scheduling commitments is a tough excuse to swallow when 30,000 people scheduled their time to be at your show.
It may be venue rather than band scheduling issues...

They are playing a football stadium. The first game of the new season is 3 August. The club will want at least 4 weeks clear to get the pitch prepared.

Other venues would be a logistical nightmare as they'd have to cancel all tickets and work out equivalents somewhere else, then deal with all the complaints about that.

We have so much money tied up in Berlin and Barcelona. Non refundable. Hoping Ed pulls through. Have been at the cancelled London show in 2018 and the 3 cancelled shows in 2022. Will be very hard to take.

Damn, sorry for everyone who was expecting to go. Especially for those who traveled/planned to travel. If I ever plan to travel for a PJ show, it will be when they are at a place I have always wanted to visit anyhow. Alleviate the sting a little bit that way.

Travelled to London from Edinburgh. Been here for 30 minutes and learn it’s cancelled :(

Guessing there will be many people travelling a lot further

Obviously, hope Ed and the band are okay.

Let's be honest. Ed is a 60 year old smoker and drinker. There was always going to be a point where his immune system and his vocal capacity collide. With the repeated cancellations recently, it's probably now. Seems like he can't push through anymore.

It's obviously not "the end", but it might be the end of many fans having the patience and/or finances to risk travelling.

And I say this as someone who has already forked out a couple of grand for the upcoming Australian tour.

    I hope I'm wrong.

Rescheduling UK shows is always going to be tougher now with the extra administration and costs involved thanks to Brexit, nevermind the logistics of shipping crew and equipment back and forth over the Channel

Why shouldn’t that be possible? Bruce had to cancel 3 shows well in advance due to his voice problems.

If they know, that Ed can’t perform in Berlin, cancel asap. If they don’t know, say something like „we are hoping to play in Berlin but are not certain“ in your statement.

I don't think I would travel more than 5-6 hours at this point just because I am nervous. unless it was part of a bigger trip which I like to do just in case

Man. You have to wonder if this is the last tour. It just seems like the toll of being on the road is too great on Ed (as times). Hopefully he can rally and no more dates are missed, but it’s a very concerning development for the future.

    Sad day.

If Ed is not feeling well, they cancel the show. It is that simple. Sorry to any folks that traveled there, but it happens.

Just managed to get 2 standing green day tickets for 89 quid each as already got non refundable travel and hotel. An OK consolation I guess, absolutely gutted though
  • Oh this is so heartbreaking,  I at least live in London, I am so sorry for those of you who travelled from far away.  I feel like we all wanna cry a little.

Sucks for everyone involved. I feel for the people who spent a bunch of money to get to London for the show. We went over for the Hyde Park shows in 2022 as part of a wedding anniversary trip to London and Paris and had a number of other activities scheduled in addition to the concerts. If the concerts had been cancelled it would have sucked, but the other things we did were worth the trip by themselves.

What scheduling commitments could there be?

How is it not possible to add shows after the festivals? I mean their next shows are later in August.
I suspect that there is no way to reschedule because the Spurs stadium will be unavailable and, if they have sold more than 20k tickets, there is no other London venue big enough to take a make up gig.

you raise a good point - I was just guessing really as I do not know how these things work

I expect Ed expects he perhaps just needs the extra few days to be in top shape again. Playing London may have put the rest of the tour in doubt so it may well have just been a trade off

I am beyond disappointed. I have been in London sightseeing for a few days and was really looking forward to the show. This is my second European cancellation since Prague. I hope Berlin doesn’t make it my 3rd and 4th. Wishing Ed and anyone else who is sick in the band a full and very speedy recovery.

Ah man, gutted!!  So pleased I got to see them in Manchester as I came all the way from Cape Town (don't live in London anymore), same thing happened for 2018 had tix for second night and it was cancelled.  But Manchester was incredible for me, I loved every second. Hope Ed recovers soon and the rest of the tour goes ahead as planned.

True with the venue but just say it if thats the case. More info in a time like this is better for those dealing with the news today.

The way it is worded leaves it open that the bands existing schedule commitments is the reason to me.

Also Tottenham has a show July 11th.

They could not pull of a July 15th show? I am sure there is a cutoff but is it seriously that close to the last show scheduled?

That is possible and would be perfectly understandable. But saying nothing about future dates is again textbook-10c-to-fan-communication.

What a fucker. Such a shame for all those who have travelled. It’s not much of a consolation but London is still a cool place to explore if you haven’t been there before.

    Hope Ed gets better soon.
