Funny enough the person in front of me at MSG night 2 last fall was using her phone but not to video the show or take photos. She was online shopping.
In fairness, the song playing on stage was Not For You and it very much was not for her.
I brought my friend to his first PJ show in Nashville 22. He sat down playing video games on his phone the entire show. 🙄
    Oof!

Brought my dad to Fenway 18 because he’s a “fan of music” and had been to a lot of rock shows in his day…..
couldn’t get off his phone because he had a football fantasy draft. I left and went and sat with some buddies. He did not go to Night 2….sorry not sorry dad.

Need some eastern CAD dates come fall! That would be sweet. Going to catch Jerry Cantrell next week so that will have to fill the void for now.

100%. Already going to be in Toronto for Oasis/NIN. Pearl Jam at the same time would be the cherry on top.

I'd be fine with the no phone policy as well now that my kids are older. But I can see parents of youngsters having a slight issue with it.

Funny story, a few years ago, Jack White was playing here in Portland. I was not there but had friends who were. My son (who was probably 16-17 at the time) was out with his friends. They got pulled over and because the driver didn't have their license for long enough (not allowed to have anyone but family in the car), they all got brought to the station.

The officer started calling all the kids parents. One of my sons' friends parents were at the Jack White show. When the officer called me he asked if I knew so and so's parents. I told him that I did, but they weren't going to respond to a phone call and explained the situation. I vouched for them and luckily he released the kid to me.

Obviously not a big deal as the kids were older. But even parents that have younger kids with baby sitters I can see being a little hesitant to give up their phones for 2-3 hours. Especially if they are not aware of the policy (which I assume is stated on the ticket?)
For Jack White’s shows, you still have your phone on you, it’s just in a bag. So if you feel it vibrate, you can go to a designated area in the lobby where they unlock it for you and you can access it. You just can’t have it open inside the performance area. Also if you have a smart watch, you can still see that you’re getting calls/texts etc as those aren’t locked up.
I’ve seen Jack twice since this policy started (and also Tool twice and Sessanta last year where the same rules applied), and have no problems with the policy whatsoever and enjoy not having to look through people’s phones as they’re holding them above their heads to get terrible videos of every song. I also like to take pictures at shows, (checkout my shots in the Indy thread from the pit last year) but Jack provides higher quality ones than i’d ever be able to get on his website that you can download and Tool/Maynard stands down security for the last song of the night, so the option is still there at the end of the show.

Last Jack White gig I saw in Portland in a small venue of 800 people, we were allowed to keep phones and take pix and videos.

I was wondering if they still did the enforcement at the club gigs last fall. I wasn’t able to make it to any, i am in the pit for him in Detroit in April, wouldn’t complain about keeping my phone accessible!

    no
It would be very easy to argue that there is.
There’s just no concrete info right now. I’m planning like this is it tho. I’m content with these shows with this current Dark Matter format

Yes. Anything can happen but there's been just enough smoke where I think it's more likely than not.

At this point we're operating on a lot of faith - there is no info or very solid rumors - but we want to believe they are not done for the year after May.

  • If their touring pattern continues, they will be playing shows this fall in North America. I expect we would be getting a better feel for it in the next month or so, with an announcement sometime in April.

Coinciding with/ the original rumors & leaked info for April & May, there was a rumor about a fall residency somewhere. Idk how likely that is, but I’m reasonably optimistic there will be some more dates later this year. I’ll abandon hope if we don’t hear anything by May.

Seattle residency at Climate Pledge Arena would be perfect .. how relaxed would the band be, just jamming in their own city!
