Why aren't "Got To Give" lyrics included?

Well, stopped by Target this morning to get the CD in my hands... I didn't want to wait until my Ten Club order got here Monday :|

Anyways, at the theater showing the lyrics were incomplete for "Got to Give"... they only showed up at the very end.  Well, same with the CD... it only includes:
"Let's Get to the Point
We All Are Heard and Seen
Let's Get to the Point
We Can Believe

That We Are Better
Together, You and Me

Can Take on Anyone
Anyone

If You Can See
Something's Got to Give"

I wonder why the choice was made to leave the lyrics incomplete... I'm sure somebody on this board can help out :)  I noticed the end of "Running" when Eddie is unintelligibly yelling isn't included either.

This is odd. Maybe there's a copyright issue?
I gather speed from you fucking with me.
  • I noticed the same as I was listening on Apple Music last night. Lyrics for every song except this one. Was looking forward to checking it out after receiving the cd/blu ray (hopefully by Monday)

Well this is what I hear

    Stormy seas behind your eyes
A dark moon is sailing on your ? skies
Whoever said love is a compromise
    Is you

    Castles falling turning into sand
The high tide is crumbing on the rocks we stand
Never could believe a single word they said
    About you

And here I am just picking up the parts
A broken engine, busted, lifted up on blocks
Should’ve made the turn, when the road got rough
    But who knew

I’ll be the last one standing
I’ll be the first to forgive you
    Shook away, empty handed
Breaking my heart, until something gives

I saw the doctor, said I’m falling apart
There’s heartbreak, connection, all the blood dried up
Said he couldn’t fix it, had to open me up
    Just like you

I cant stand it cos its no way to live
The pain of this everyday has got to give
Give me liberty or give me death
    Over you

I’ll be the last one standing
I’ll be the first to forgive you
    Stood away, empty handed
Breaking my heart, until something gives

Getting to the point, where I can breathe
Getting to the point, where I’ve got nothing to say
Getting to the point, where I have come
Need a friend, lets get to the point
We are all heard and seen
Lets get to the point, we can, we can believe
    That we are better
    Together you and me
    Take on anyone

    Somethings got to give

I noticed same thing. There is definitely a theme to most of these songs so my guess is this one is extra personal and chose to leave lyrics out.. obviously pure hypotheses

    Not surprised.
I'm thinking back to past albums; some songs had no lyrics in the booklet and others were not at all like they appeared on the song and in some cases, we got only a line or two.

Back to the old days of not including all of the lyrics from songs & I like that you have to listen closely to work them out

Agree, underrated, but after that second listen in the cinema, with the visuals etc I was like, that song is so darn good! The ending 🔥

Could be a near end of first set track before launching into Porch et al. (Or one of the new ones).

This bridge is just amazing.  This album has some really perfect bridges.  Can't wait to hear them live.

Every song takes off from the bridge to the outro. It’s nuts.

I noticed this too about the bridges on DM.  Even on my least favorite track, Wreckage, the bridge is really great.

One theory I saw in here is because the lyrics are a reference to suicide and/or suicidal ideation.

    Are all of you morons?

It's about he and his wife, which he also references at the end of Upper Hand (goes from 'just need a few of you' - i.e., his wife and two daughters to 'maybe just the two of you' - only his two daughters) and Setting Sun (which is all about he and his wife). He doesn't want to be too overt about what he's alluding to in Got to Give (although Setting Sun is pretty direct, so not sure about that), but it's clear (although I guess you could argue it could be about any of his past relationships, but seems unlikely) there are four (well five - the daughters are kind of rolled up in one) main characters in the album - Chris Cornell, Trump, Ed's wife, Ed's daughters, then one for Jeff's wife (Won't Tell), and the whole Seattle scene remnants (Wreckage).

Pretty harsh words for someone who doesn't actually know the answer and is only speculating.

Thank you. I initially took similar meanings from the lyrics as you did. But I don't really know.

Ed has very rarely written personal lyrics with some notable exceptions such as the mamasan trilogy and elderly woman.

In retrospect, I think I was just projecting my own experiences on the lyrics.

I have since revised my thoughts on the lyrics. I now believe that Dark Matter is a concept album, at least lyrically. All of the lyrics are clearly about relationships of some kind. But, the more I listen/read them, I'm less certain that they are personal.

You just made me realize something that I was pondering about the album.  I noticed that all of the bridges in this album are great, and I had wondered if the concept of "strong bridges" would factor in somehow.  Now I see how it does, if we focus on having good relationships we need to have strong connections or "bridges".  This album is so cool.

That is deep. You might be on to something. Love it.

I am so intrigued by this album, I asked my Stanford PhD psychologist friend to help me analyze the lyrics. He hasn't responded 🤣🤣🤣
