Setting Sun is now my second favorite closing song in the PJ catalog behind Release. The final 1-2 combo of Got To Give and Setting Sun is incredible. Bravo!

Just hoping it stays as a closer into the following legs of the tour now.
    Same here.

Am I the only one...that this song is breaking down? I can't stop listening to it and being devastated by it. I'm trying to discount the recency bias, but it's skyrocketing up my all-time PJ list.

Got it 4 times, both Vegas and Seattle shows. Can't say it enough, I'm good with the song being a permanent closer.

Same. I was at both Seattle shows. Setting Sun closing both nights felt so damn good.

If you could see what I see now
You'd find a way to stay somehow
Oh, if you could see, yeah, what I see now
You'd make your way to stay somehow

May your days be long 'til kingdom come
May our days be long before kingdom come
May our days be long until kingdom come
We can become one last setting sun
Am I the only one hanging on?
We could become one last setting sun
Or be the sun at the break of dawn
    Let us not fade
    Let us not fade

It gives me goosebumps, every .. single .. time.

This song has this ability to make me feel so emotional and ready to lose it. In Vegas i got teary eyed listening to it night two and I put my arm around my teen daughter for a sec just to soak it in. I was listening to the bootleg on my back porch and wanted to cry again. It's a very powerful song.

It's interesting for me, this song really stood out to me on the first listen.  I initially wasn't sure what to think of the other songs, as those needed time to settled in.  But right off the bat, I knew Setting Sun was special.  Right when I heard the beautifully hypnotic guitar + percussion.  So good.  Then that outro.  This is a powerful song.

Exactly the same here and to the comments above. In the movie theater on first listen, Setting Sun was the only song I said to myself “that’s Pearl Jam”. Then I listened to it 1000x. I’ve probably watched the LV1 version on YouTube a million times. Eddie is so fucking into it. I was at that show and both Seattle shows…great sets but I most looked forward to Setting Sun.

Watch, it will be in the next Lion King movie in December.  I know that would piss some people off but it's so powerful it would work.

My only problem with this song is that I am now conditioned, after seeing it as the closer to ten shows, some of which were followed by lengthy overnight drives home to L.A., to start thinking "What's the fastest way out of here?" whenever I hear it.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Bumping this because I'm on the verge of declaring this song as my all-time favorite PJ song, which makes it my all-time favorite song, period. Trying to discount the recency bias/new album euphoria.

For the longest time, my fav has been "Amongst The Waves", and then either "Long Road" or "Parting Ways", depending on the day lol.

    Wow that's great.

Although....Amongst The Waves held the previous number 1 spot for you? Also, wow!

Yeah, ATW is pretty perfect IMO, lyrically and musically. Love, in all its forms, has saved my life, still does.

I might keep ATW at the top only because I hate to let such a sad song take the crown lol.

MSG 2 was the first time I had seen PJ at MSG since 2003.

My dream of dreams was/is to see the band there with someone, a special someone.

I got all woe-is-me when they played this, because I was at MSG 2 alone, so I closed my eyes during the bridge, listened, and cried.

    It sucked.

    Still does lol.

But I woke up the next morning, and hopefully many more mornings to come.

Amongst the Waves is pretty awesome. Backspacer I think is underrated by a lot of PJ fans.

A great one for Ohana.  I'm hoping we get a bunch of Backspacer songs.  I like many of them.

Looks like it got bumped up a few slots, I didn’t mind that it was not the closer at the show I saw. But it definitely has that good mellow vibe to send you on your way home.

I think this song would be a great opener at Fenway or Ohana. Like more of an old school show with one slower song and then hail, hail or brain of J rip right out of the ending.

It will be interesting to see which of the dm songs will become rarities
  • Pretty insane they haven’t played it in 4 shows. It was really nice to see it was supposed to close Baltimore before the scratch. Post-credit scene is where it belongs. The song hasn’t been the same since May with its placement between DTE and Alive for god knows what reason. If it ever opened I hope it would be a giant sing along. LV1 and Seattle 1 are still my favorite versions and made this song possibly a top 10-15 song of all time for me

It makes me wonder how many 10 clubbers are really into the new album. The new songs just don't seem to get much love at the shows.

I was a bit surprised that a 10c acquaintance of mine that I ran into at Wrigley hadn't listened to the new album much.
