This song is amazing. The lyrics are so sad - a man in emotional pain for sure.

I know it’s not about him, but I kept thinking of Cornell with those lyrics in the 2nd half
I feel like Cornell weaves his way through this album in other songs as well. Couldn’t help but think of him.
I died. I died and you just stood there. I died and you watched. I died and you walked by and said no. I'm dead.
  • The second half could be on anything from ‘91-98. Best Ed sounds on the whole album

But we’re not allowed to speculate the lyrics or the thread gets closed

Favorite song on the album with WFS a close second.  The intro sounds like Jack Irons drums era and from the midway point on, this song is some of the best I've ever heard from this band.  Absolutely has Hard to Imagine vibes with those soaring vocals and guitar.  I'm blown away and I haven't felt that way about new PJ material in many years.  This one will rip in a live setting.

I was wondering if those early drums were Matt or Josh. ** I guess we shall see in concert. Sounds like it could be by hand? I'm definitely not knowledgeable on this.

Ed singing in his lower vocal range gives me chills. Sounds So good. No need to go high, unless the original song melody requires it.

The 2nd half is my favorite part of the whole album. Exactly the type of PJ that I've been wanting to hear. THANK YOU!!

**edit: Its definitely Matt on all drums.
When I opened the CD, it credits:
    Matt drums, percussion
    Josh piano, keyboards, guitar

It sort of reminded me of Jack Irons. Maybe that's why I really like this one...

Josh is only credited with guitar & keyboards in the liner notes, and Watt had said that unleashing Matt was a priority. I think it’s all him.

This one was one of the highlights listening in the theatre.  The only snag with it is that there are parts that sound a bit like Slaughter - Fly to the Angels, while reprising Parting Ways, but I've always loved both songs anyways so that didn't make it a negative.  Love the way it closes out the album.

I love this song but thanks for making me laugh with slaughter.  I haven't thought about that song in a long time

The first half of this song reminds me of a Neil Young song. I thought maybe 'unknown legend', but not sure if that's the one I'm thinking of.

I love the first half of this song.  The percussion and guitar combo is nice.  This is a top 3 song for me at the moment, behind React, Respond and Running

I love this song.  Is it just me or is there a similarity to Comes Then Goes in a couple sections of Ed’s singing?  Almost like he’s going to switch songs for about 4 or 5 words then brings it back to Setting Sun.

  • Love this song!!! Hit me in the theater and has continued to sound better every time I listen to it. Think it's a better opener than a closer. Would love to hear it on either end of a show.
