Message from Austin Fans

We don't want the hits!

Break out some rarities.

We don't need Black, Alive, RVM to close the first set.  Corduroy is boring. Same with given to fly and small town.

Play the good stuff!  Make this a show for fans to talk about for years to come!

That is where my mindset is. Getting the notice for the postponement as we were getting close to Indy sucked, but it has been tempered with the knowledge that we are going to Austin. I will gladly take whatever setlist that they decide to give to us. It is my son's first time seeing them, so a show with a bunch of songs he recognizes would suit him fine.

Hope you get a great show and that "boring " Corduroy and GTF are played so that your son can experience how awesome these are live!

It's what Josh knows how to play. You were blessed with a show. Period. 99% of us would be happy to have a show if Ed was up there singing the alphabet song lol

We felt a little better about Indy since we had just been to both Chicago shows....it still was painful though

It's as if you're completely unaware Indy was cancelled at the last minute only 5 days ago.

Telling any band to not play the songs people love is dumb.

Corduroy, gtf and small town are boring?  Damn the day I say that is the day I should probably stop seeing Pearl Jam live.

I mean I really like Small Town and Given to Fly.  I have no problem if I hear those songs at every show.  Corduroy is my litmus test for going to too many shows.  If I stop enjoying it, it means I need to go to less PJ shows.    If I haven't seen PJ in a few years, I'm usually pretty happy to sing a long to it.

It is interesting there's songs I have no problem being on every setlist, and some I've heard a few too many times (Even Flow, DTE), I guess everyone has their own preferences.  Still, not everyone at a PJ show is die hard fan, so I feel a mix of rarities and big songs has the best result.
  • I used to complain about the Tragically Hip playing too many singles and not enough rarities. I would give my remaining kidney to be able to see the Hip play the most boring setlist imaginable just one more time.

BINGO. I stopped going to every Hip show for this very reason. There are so many shows I missed, and now it's gone forever. they played 22 shows here from the time I really started digging them in 1995. Saw them only 7 times. SHAMEFUL.

It's so bad you wonder if it's not trolling.

This isn't complicated... If someone doesn't like the songs Pearl Jam plays at their shows, maybe don't go? IDK, just a thought.

I’d really enjoy an intense version of Even Flow.

  • I'm genuinely impressed with the poster's ability to poll the entire Austin crowd days before the show to come up with the consensus that no one wants "the hits", including all the people going to their first show.  That's good work.

Boy, you sound like a real treat.

I guess most of us are just thankful to still be doing this in 2023.  The band has WAY, WAY exceeded my greatest expectations and I'm thankful for every moment in a live setting. Play all the hits as far as im concerned.

  • I used to think somewhat along these lines. It can happen when you've been to a few shows and heard these songs every time. But the more I met people going to their first show (in some cases dragged along by their PJ-crazy friend / partner) or regulars for whom one of these songs means something important, and the more you see the crowd perk up when these songs get started, it changed my perspective entirely. There's room enough in the setlist for everyone, and this tour has been testament to that.
