Will it even be pressed or just burnt? Looking at that packaging gives me doubts.

nice!!  It's still in SD, but when you play a DVD on bigger modern TV's you can all see the compression used to scale something to a DVD.   It'll be nice to have this upgrade.

It also gives me hope.  I always wanted to see an Imagine in Cornice bluray because it was filmed in HD but only released on DVD.   Maybe we'll get that next which would be an even bigger upgrade.

Uprezzed suggests to me that you'd likely get a similar picture quality by having your Blu-ray player upscale your DVD.  What would really interest me is if there has been any upgrades to the audio track.  The DVD has 5.1 Dolby Digital but it's not a discrete multichannel mix.  Also, the DVD does not have "chapters" so it would be nice to have for convenience.

And just for shits and giggles, throw the Yield Dolby Atmos mix that is a streaming exclusive onto this Blu-ray so that we can enjoy it in lossless quality.

Is the DVD even anamorphic? It was an early DVD release, being released in 98. So I imagine it is 4:3 letterboxed.

That makes this pretty "big" upgrade.

Not big enough ofc. Because they should have gone back to the 16mm film elements @Santos L. Halper One shouldn't cheap out on these things.

The 1080p version that stream on vimeo wasn't anamorphic :(  It had the bars on the left and right because it was designed for vhs and 4:3 tv's, then it had bars at the top bottom, because it was widescreen.

Hopefully the bluray fixes that, and at least makes it anamorphic :)

Anamorphic isn't a factor post DVD. Bluray is natively a widescreen format.

So, going from a single-layered, non anamorphic DVD to a Bluray is a step up.

The interesting question, with the film being in 1.66 is if they allow it to be slightly pillar-boxed or if they will zoom the image and loose some of the top and bottom.

But it has to be stressed -- they should go back to camera negative (if available). And If I were in @Rubysdad and @Santos L. Halper shoes I would stop this at once, discard of these discs and demand that the job is done proper (if possible). Make whoever is responsible for this not cheap out on the jamily with the shortsightedness of ugly "upprezzing".

Why not make it available online, e.g. Apple+ or Netflix? I no longer have any devices to play the BluRay on...

I'll try asking once more: Blu-ray are usually region-coded (A for North America, B for Europe), but some are Region Free.
Any idea if this one is coded or not? I wouldn't want to buy something from a U.S.-based store and then not be able to see it on my European player.

Many people have game consoles, do they not.

(I have not though. Nor a BD-player. I think I might have my brother's old PlayStation 3 in my storage...)

Yes. They're not expensive and there are certain movies and concert videos I want hard copies of.

Yes. In my view Blu Rays are still great. It’s really the only way to have a permanent physical copy that you can watch at any time. You get the situation where streaming services just remove content from their platforms, making it impossible to watch a movie/programme (without finding an illegal download)

But streaming services own content doesn't exist on physical media (in 2023) to begin with..?

And most other stuff one can rent.

But everyone collecting physical films is a friend of mine.

Gotcha… I think I assumed that they didn’t make the players anymore but I checked online and I see they’re really pretty cheap like you said. 👍🏻

  • I'm probably asking the same question as "will it be in Dolby Atmos?", but will "uprezzing" (didn't know that was even a word) improve the sound quality?  Not spending $25+ for just a better pic.  Thanks
