Yesterday I went and had an EMG test on my partially paralyzed hand.
Basically shooting electric currents in to my hand and arm to stimulate the nerves.

At one point I told Mr.Doctor to cut off my fucking arm, and lets call it a day.

So when those test results come back?
My doctor calls me at home and tells me he is increasing my pain medication to 3x the current amount.
    3x?
    Ummm.....Ok
Im guessing driving a car is out of the situation since I can now barely walk from the kitchen to the living room! Hahahaha

But in the last 48 hours my arm and hand are feeling better! haha

Well, I still havent collected $1 of disability, THAT I PAY FOR EVERY WEEK!!
My hand is still 80% paralyzed. But I can now tie my shoes.
Im getting ready to fucking "Lawyer Up" and sue the surgeon for negligence.
Im also going to have to get a lawyer to go after my disability.
I've been waiting for 8 fucking days for my neurologist to fill out a disability form, which should take him all of 5 minutes.
Im out of fucking pain pills, and for some reason my refill was denied. I have no idea wtf thats about.
But hey I can tie my shoes.

    Not a classic rant

And the realization that I may never be able to work again, because of damage to my fucking hand/arm during heart surgery?

Pisses me off like you can only imagine.

I may just be fucked for life, and Im not happy, to say the least.

But I can tie my shoes.

Not having received any disability is just flat out wrong.
Hopefully that can get ironed out including retroactive pay back to May.
What a ridiculous country where those who work all their lives and pay into the system get the runaround when they finally need assistance.

I'm very sorry to read that you had open heart surgery, Speedy. I also am sorry to read about the frustration with pills and doctors. I think a medical condition that leaves me feeling "lost" is one of the scariest experiences. It's a very hard road to realize how little we know about our own bodies, and how it feels like the medical community is throwing educated guesses. That is awful about your hand.

    I'm sending you heart-healing energy!

    Thank you very much.
I'm going to recover, hopefully, and go back to my life. But to say this whole debacle hasn't made me form a negative opinion of this country's health care system, would be a flat out lie. There is something wrong when it takes 12 weeks to get cardio rehab started. There is something wrong when it takes 6 weeks to get in to see a neurologist.

And I could go on and on.

And thats my short term disability. But Im pretty sure once I get a disability lawyer, Ill get my 3 month short term.

And the whole social security disability thing? An absolute joke. You have to basically be out of work for a year, before that kicks in. But you will get paid for that full year. But I know damned well that amount of money wouldnt come close to what I earn.

Its actually a slippery slope, and the disability folks realize it.
they haven't yet denied me, but its obviously the direction its heading. They want to deny me for a PRE EXISTING CONDITION. But they can only go back 12 months on my medical records. The stents were put in 15 months ago. And once the stents were put in, I had a cardiologist give a statement to the Department of Transportaton stating that I was 100% qualified to drive again. I was then given a full DOT physical and that doctor said I was 100% qualified to drive again.

So based on those facts, did I have a pre existing condition?
And its obvious they are trying their best to prove just that. And I have let them know to be prepared to "lawyer Up".

Now the ACE UP MY SLEEVE is this. And this was given to me by my cardiologist 2 weeks ago.
He told me I am going about it all wrong.

CLAIM DISABILITY FOR THE PARALYZED HAND!!!

He says there is no way in HELL it can be denied. He then says if its denied he will set me up with a lawyer himself.

I already have the paper work started with my company, and have to get my neurologist to complete the form.
Then my company will submit that, and we will see what happens.

I have a question for you.
From where you stand, and the position you hold at work, you are obviously much more knowledgeable.

Why on Earth would I have to wait months to see specialists, that in my condition, and my open heart surgery,  it seems to me that I should see these guys within days? A week at the most. 2 weeks seems like a stretch, but ok 2 weeks.

    I WAIT MONTHS FOR SOME?

    It baffles me.

What are the causes of this?

I know for me it depends on where it is. I am in the first generation of people with this congenital heart defect to make it passed 28. Some cities planned for us living long (NYC) and some went about it differently. I call NYC in August for an October appointment. Closer to me I call in June for a November appointment. It could be as simple as a staffing issue.

Sometimes you have to become a pest hound your insurance company, the neurologist too my nurse wife said the pain meds issue always raises red flags it’s as if they just want to give you what they think is enough! After that they will question it as to why you might want more. Sorry to hear about all this crap your going through but we have a broken healthcare system.

The pain medication has been a joke since day one. If you don't want to give me addictive narcotics then don't!
But do me a favor, when you take away the oxycodone, which worked like a charm, then please give me something that works.

I have major nerve damage in my arm. At times the pain is excruciating.

When I lived in Evanston Illinois (1990), doctors in Chicago would not see me as they were not trained. I had to go to Wisconsin. Are you able to travel?

A friend of mine said that he had to go "Shirley-MacLaine-in-Terms-of-Endearment" yelling in the hospital to get his partner the pills he needed as they ran out and it was a long weekend. He got the pills, but what a trial. That is awful about your hand, and during the open heart surgery.
