I'm curious about this and I'm posting this here instead on on AMT because I believe more forum members are likely to respond here and I think that will give us a more clear picture.
This is an anonymous poll but feel free to respond.
Mods, if this is not an acceptable topic, feel free to lock or delete it.  I don't think this violates any forum rules, but I also would not want to do that.

I'm not on here as much as I used to be & I found the AMT to get to be a bit much. I still check it out from time to time, but rarely comment there anymore.

An interesting phrase.  I might have to borrow that one some time, haha!

It's about the same, which is very, very seldom. It's probably been 3 or 4 years since I participated in a discussion there.

That long?  How the time does fly!  Maybe we'll see you there again one of these days.

Maybe, but I did a search on my AMT posts and the last one was in September 2019 so don't hold your breath waiting lol. Plus, politics are so divisive that I'd rather chill here in AET. This place is entertainment and I'd rather connect with other PJ fans than argue and debate.
  • Does AMT talk about vinyl or PJ? If not…. It’s doubtful I am on there.

AET is great.  Mostly fun, not a lot of conflict.

No, neither.  But if you'd like, I could start a thread there on the political and environmental gender and racist implications of the controversy over the word "vinyls"!

I very much take the ‘innocent bystander’ approach to AMT. I go on there every now and then, read a few posts, then run for the hills!

There are plenty of interesting topics on there, but these days I feel too apathetic about a lot of things to want to get into it. It’s too intense for me.

Don't have the time for it that I used to have.
Also, in general, once you see the positions many have you know there is almost nothing possible to impact those positions.  Just becomes the same takes, over and over...not too much interest in learning/discussing.
Some people get sore over everything and take things personally.
Last - and this is the thing that turns me off to it more than anything else - the Devil's Advocate folks.  Arguing just for the same of arguing.
    No thanks.
Will read some but have very limited interaction there. Have been put in time out a few times by the mods for things typed there.  Just not worth it.

I used to post there a lot but just lost interest.  Same arguments, same people defending their respective sides, very few are open minded.

There is some interesting discussions on there, but it seemed like too many of them descended into toxic arguments and name calling. I decided to take an extended break.

Thanks to all who voted and to those who commented.  I'm a bit saddened but not surprised how how AMT has (as I see it) devolved into mostly pointless arguing.
The one reason I will continue to check it out is that I see items posted there now and then that I think are news worthy and that I, for whatever reason, had missed.
The best way I can picture AMT becoming more interesting and useful would be if a lot more people were involved (how many visit there now?  A handful maybe?)  But the toxicity of the arguing has driven many away- myself- to some extent- included.  This is unfortunate because we are entering (or are in) a time in our history where the wheels of society are coming off and keeping informed and sharing information and ideas could be useful.  But alas, the wheels of the train are also coming off.  I'm sorry to see it is so.

If you have other sources of information that you believe then there is no point of arguing anything.  That's one problem.

The other is that people are so set in their ways that they would not want to discuss the matter.  They aren't changing their minds.

True.  But what could change is how people react to those who think differently.  Let's take vaccines for example.  If someone doesn't believe vaccines are a good idea, they to say to someone who does, "I think they are a waste of time but if they make you feel better, that's your business."  Instead, we get bating, or sarcasm, and/or irate responses.  And the same is goes the other way around.  (My own response to that thread had been to either ignore it or point out what a joke it has become.)  Bottom line is, there is little in the way of civil debate there.

Agree on some people having such thin skin it is almost like they have no skin at all.

Not being able to tell someone you think they are a dope for having a dopey opinion is silly and part of what is wrong with our society, imo.  People want to shoot each other because of being disrespected.
Not saying you should flame people all day but it is crazy how upset some get about any criticism of their opinions/stances.

It is a rock band message board.  I've been riled up by people before and it makes no sense - totally silly for me to have done so.
Never been offended, though.  Can't understand why anyone would be.

I've made lifelong friends from this group.  Traveled and met up together.  Stay in touch irl/away from here, visit when in one another's cities. Zoom, talk on the phone, met families, etc.  Never thought that would be the case.  All that being stated I still wouldn't be offended by what someone thinks of my opinion on a rock band message board / if they told me they thought I'm an idiot/mfer/pos/etc

Exactly....it's like the best setup in my opinion. The moderation is strict so it really can't get out of hand for long or the banstick comes out.

  • Agree on some people having such thin skin it is almost like they have no skin at all.

Agreed.  That's not what Brian and I are getting at though.
    Fair enough.
Thinking about this more, it's not about being offended or disrespected.  It just gets to the point of not wanting to bother anymore.

Yep and I am one of those that has flipped on the vaccine thing.  I'm at the "don't want it, don't get it" end of that spectrum now.
So if someone disagrees then you get upset and stop posting?

Honestly it's like saying "I don't want to breath oxygen anymore" and getting mad at people for saying that makes no sense.
I didn't say that anywhere, this is a perfect example of why people don't come on there anymore.  TY for proving Brians point, lol.
The "lol" is grown men getting upset about message boards in my opinion.
And still at it, doubling down.

Don't know you, don't even know why you replied to me the way you did because obviously you're seeing something that bothered you.
Maybe it bothers me that it bothers you....because none of this bothers me.
