  • I expect the accordion to be brought out at MSG and Bugs played and open with Of The Girl.

    Then I'm good.

Phish did 13 shows @ MSG in 2017 w/o repeating
A planned 13 night residency with a different theme each night is not in the same stratosphere of a standard tour.
    It's also gimmicky and boring.

if Pearl Jam ever goes out on a "Ten tour" then shoot me... eh wait.. eh... every tour is a Ten tour.
Gimmicky to play 13 shows at MsG? To each their own. I wish PJ would tour like phish. We’re lucky if an entire tour consists of 13 shows.

I meant more, going on tour in support of one "album people remember and owned", like Bruce etc. My mind wandered away to things I dislike.

But also not a fan of MMJ's one album played in full per night etc. More fun when Pearl Jam did it in 2006 with Avocado out of the blue. And with Ten. Then when No Code and Binaural came around it felt a bit done.

Gotcha. I agree. The way Pj busted out those full album shows was incredible

Guided by voices played 100 songs in a show

Bad Brains have played 15 minute shows which to today everyone there would still say it is the best show they ever saw

    Bands are all different
Right. PJ is a big love in and BB just punches you in the mouth and fucks off.
    Love either show.

Petrol Girls at BST did that. Their half hour set (may have been 45 min) was my favourite show of the weekend. Sure, PJ was awesome both nights, Pixies and Cat Power good,  but the Petrol Girls punched me in the mouth. I was so pumped during their show at the birdcage.

Am I a bigger PG fan than PJ? Absolutely not. Just a different band with a different show.  Discovering a new act with a spectacular approach like that is fucking exciting.

phish also did a fall tour in 2019 with no repeats. albeit a small tour of 8 shows, but they did it. there is your standard tour argument

I love the way Phish tours, but they don't have a hit as big as Alive - or Jeremy, or Better Man, etc. - anywhere in their catalog. That's not a shot at their music, it's just a fact. DMB is more comparable to PJ in that regard.

Then shouldn’t Phish hold onto the song or songs that are kind-of hits with all they got?

While Pearl Jam by having severel well-known songs don’t need to play them all. De facto evey show.

Phish is free to do what they want, and I don't know what they should or shouldn't do.

  • I take it you’ve never heard of phish bakers dozen.  13 shows at msg, no repeats.
Those shows were fire.  Wish I did more than just the first weekend…

  • There was a time where Pearl Jam was praised for its marathon live shows and mixing up the set lists.  Let’s not make fun of people wanting that back.  One of the core reasons they fell in love with the band and traveling to see them.

There is no way I would have seen the band as much as I have with the way they are doing their shows now.  Would I see 15 shows in a year like I did in 2013 now?  Nope.
I can’t believe anyone would see more than 5 shows a year post 2006, but to each his own, but to each his own. The shows may have gotten longer since then (sans the last couple of years), but every other aspect has declined since then.  2013-2014 is a high point for recent years but I’d take every tour from 98-2005 over it in heartbeat where it was rare any shows was over 135 minutes.  Hell most shows from 98 were 110 minutes and they smoke anything played since.
