100% agree. Well said.Gern Blansten said:
Ignoring Binaural and RA has been the case for several years....but yeah the lack of variety is disappointing. And again....I'm ok with shorter setlists but dump the covers and give us variety. If the idea of the standard setlist is to appease the non die hard fans then a good compromise would be to play Rival and Cropduster over Throw your Hatred Down and I Believe in Miracles. The NDH fans don't want to hear the covers either.nicknyr15 said:
And even more surprising is the lack of variety. Yes they switch it up, but they’re not digging deep at all and are ignoring multiple albums.Gern Blansten said:
Right....the surprise has been that the non festival setlists are the same length and songsCO278952 said:Their festival sets have traditionally been shorter so no surprise there.I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0 -

How many combined appearances have we seen of Hail Hail, WWS, Life Wasted, Breakerfall, Grievance, The Fixer, In Hiding, I Am Mine, I could go on and on.....
The deep cuts thing doesn't bother me a whole lot, but there are just so many classic but also popular PJ songs that have seemingly disappeared, and that's what I think many of us also mean when we discuss a lack of variety.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

For all the people in the past complaining about having too many stadium shows vs. smaller venues, this is a consequence ... Ed always talked about how stadium shows with no opener put more pressure on them to do bigger/crazier sets. Maybe this could still happen if they go back to stadiums next year.0

Makes no sense. 2013? 2014? 2016? Stadiums vs arenas has nothing to do with these sets.Discopij said:For all the people in the past complaining about having too many stadium shows vs. smaller venues, this is a consequence ... The amount of reasons I have heard for the reasoning of these shorter sets is amazing to me.nicknyr15 said:

I’d guess there are a few things at play regarding the shorter sets. Ed seemed to struggle the first few shows in 2018, London 2 had to get postponed, and I thought he was pretty rough the remainder of the tour. 3.5 years off, and older likely has something to do with it, along with a relatively busy itinerary.
It should be noted as well that the 2018 shows were shorter as a whole than the 2016 shows, and many of the 2016 shows were shorter than the 2013/2014 shows.0 -
I heard it's because the stage lights are too bright for ed and they are affecting his vision. ed is pretty stubborn and he refuses to wear glasses like bono has. again just what I heard.PJNB said:

You don't want to hear 5 minutes on what a great guy Bill Murray is (and how those allegations can't be true)?jimjam1982 said:Did Ed also talk for 20 minutes at this show? US shows were getting near 30 minutes of the set wasted with pointless banter about someone who passed away or some actor friend.I've seen quite a few Pearl Jam shows.0 -
Nope. Love the stories about how he wrote songs or some dream or political discourse but sorry if I give zero fucks about hollywood.ddeschler said:

2013/14 to 2016 was little to no change in average setlist length. Maybe a 2-3 song dropoff from 2016 to 2018. Now we're talking like 8-9 songs less.Ryan said:I’d guess there are a few things at play regarding the shorter sets. Like I said, I hope at some point they can discuss the decision making process. Would be fascinating to hear. Who's idea was it? Did anybody oppose?

Despite the shorter set, that Friday Encore show was one of the best times I’ve had at a PJ show. Band sounded great, crowd was great, and beautiful location. I hope they do another double feature PJ Ohana weekend at some point.RatherStarved said:
They were festivals though. And they were great. Especially the Encore Friday.Gern Blansten said:
Yeah but the 3 ohana shows were the same length... No covidRatherStarved said:Keep in mind at least 3 of them had Covid this year. Months after the infection a lot of people are still fatigued from it. And these guys are in their fifties which is on the cusp of the age when it takes longer to recover. Jeff and Matt are only a few weeks out. That they can play a two hour show already is pretty impressive. It’s possible the shows will get longer as their recovery continues. After years of no shows I’m certainly not going to complain that the shows are too short.0 -
That was really funny...I was like, why is this guy crowd surfing to this song? And that's when Ed pointed out that it's a romantic song and not the right moment for crowd surfing. I had to laugh so much...dimitrispearljam said:Eddie asked me to stop crowd surfong to a dude. It's not a good song for that(NOTHING AN) . I love your shirt tho
