This exchange between a New Yorker and a midwesterner about a legit hoagie is sitcom material. You couldn't pay me to eat pre-sliced meat. Jersey Mikes does it trying be a legitimate shop. They want to stand alone amongst the other garbage chains.Gern Blansten said:
at Jersey Mike's there is no variety...turkey, ham, salami, etc.....no different flavorstempo_n_groove said:
Eh. You can do that but with sooo many brands of turkey you might get stuck with waste. For example you have Oven gold then honey maple, low sodium, firebrand, mesquite, etc...Gern Blansten said:
When there are ten people in line it just seems silly to have to wait on a guy at the slicer. Just precut the meat/cheese for the lunch rush and make everyone's life easier.tempo_n_groove said:
We have delis all over NY that operate like this so I don't get the mystique? I have also never ate a t a Jersey Mikes because we have great delis.Gern Blansten said:I love Jersey Mike's....they are still kind of new to my area. We had one in Noblesville 5-6 years ago that closed oddly. I think it was just a little ahead of its time for our area. Now there is another one not too far away from the previous location.
I really don't know how they manage the meat slicer...they do everything upon order and the guy is just constantly changing meats/cheeses and running that thing non-stop. Subway actually started to mimic them a bit but they don't cut to order...they still fill their bins but the meat slicer is now visible in their stores.
You use quality meats and you don't want to waste them. Plus a good deli moves them out quickly.
It's just odd to me to order an italian sub and the guy has to get out like four meats to cut, then cut cheese, then next guy orders the same thing so here come the four meats again, etc.Post edited by battle1 on0 -

I like the term that's been floated around lately for recessions being called, 'Republican Recessions'. It's nice and political and really hits right in the mouth of the people that I would very much want it to hit right in the mouth. The Juggler said:Labor market remains good.
