America's Gun Violence #2

My husband and I are ready to sell our LA condo and move to a small town where people just are…and not trying to control others’ bodies OR minds. Everything not politicized, simplicity in living, people not worrying about what others are up to, not the never-ending narcissism that seems to be everywhere. And access to great medical care.
It’d be cheaper, less stressful. Less crime too.0 -

Bought a bigger, nicer and newer house and we now owe nothing with what we gained in equity. We move in 3 weeks.0 -
I’ve actually become a bit obsessed with Laurel, MS. That damn Home Town show on HGTV pulled me in
Not necessarily there, but the same groove. Although there would be just fine by me.
Faxxxii, we’d remain in the states. I only speak French besides English, and there’s no way I’m dealing with language barriers when it comes to my health!0 -
mace, good on ya. To which state are you moving?0

I love how others purport to know my take on things or how/why I’ll vote.
It’s nuts, I tell ya.I was replying to a likely independent blaming partisan politics for the gun problem. I don’t intend to shame anyone, vote how you wish. But if anyone believes easy gun and military weapon access is a problem, especially for our schoolchildren, there is only one way to vote. IMO. And getting a supportive SCOTUS to uphold new laws will take years, if not decades of voting.
Plenty of other people have commented on some of the changes that need to be made, which I agree with. But some liberals want all guns banned. Isn’t that what Beto was spouting off during his presidential run??? Never gonna happen, so saying that is ridiculous. Opposite that, we now we have several states (predominately conservative) not even requiring carry conceal permits, so anyone over 18 can carry conceal. Regardless that this is not for rifles that cannot be concealed, IMO that is nuts.
Our city, county, state, and federal agencies need to uphold the laws also, Letting criminals out of jail to commit more crimes, having increased crime, No bail, defunding police, no border control, and IMO lack of respect for your fellow human beings leads one to want to protect themselves.
I own guns, all of which are registered. I am a law abiding citizen, who has only used them at a gun range, otherwise they are locked in a safe of which I am the only one who knows the combination. I have a carry conceal permit that I had to take a class to receive, but I actually don’t carry and have never carried (I want to know I have the option to do so). I grew up with guns and shot rifles as part of summer camps and with family. I am a sane professional. If the government bans the sale of new AR-15, then I would support that. If there is government buyback of AR-15, then I will gladly submit mine without hassle. BTW, I am not a member of the NRA. What would the government then do with all those weapons collected? Would they use them in wars (not automatic for military, so doubtful) and then leave them with extremists/terrorists like in Afghanistan? How many weapons did our government abandon there. Do you really trust the government to do the right and competent thing??
Criminals don’t follow the laws. Their guns are likely not registered unless stolen. People need to be held accountable for not following rules and laws, but too many times that does not happen. For fucks sake, we have politicians saying that its ok that people steal to feed themselves and their families, so why don’t we hear about grocery stores being hit for all the food isles??? And please tell me why it’s ok that the same government persons who want to defund police have their own personal security guards with guns.
Stop the lobbying and paying off government with contributions to campaigns by corporations and organizations like the NRA.
We need more middle of the political spectrum independent people in our government making our laws. Or at least we need compromise from both parties. So forgive me if I blame partisan politics for a big part of the problem with getting things done in our government.Post edited by PP193448 on2006 Clev,Pitt; 2008 NY MSGx2; 2010 Columbus; 2012 Missoula; 2013 Phoenix,Vancouver,Seattle; 2014 Cincy; 2016 Lex, Wrigley 1&2; 2018 Wrigley 1&2; 2022 Louisville0 -

About 16,000 weapons were forged into reinforced steel rebar for use on freeways, bridges and buildings.

I just read that Brooklyn had a no questions asked buy back where they offered $400 in gift cards and an iPad mini for a firearm. Collected 2,000 of them with long guns sent to NJ to be shredded and hand guns sent to a steel foundry in PA to be melted down. 1/5th of one month’s gun sales in NY State.09/15/1998 & 09/16/1998, Mansfield, MA; 08/29/00 08/30/00, Mansfield, MA; 07/02/03, 07/03/03, Mansfield, MA; 09/28/04, 09/29/04, Boston, MA; 09/22/05, Halifax, NS; 05/24/06, 05/25/06, Boston, MA; 07/22/06, 07/23/06, Gorge, WA; 06/27/2008, Hartford; 06/28/08, 06/30/08, Mansfield; 08/18/2009, O2, London, UK; 10/30/09, 10/31/09, Philadelphia, PA; 05/15/10, Hartford, CT; 05/17/10, Boston, MA; 05/20/10, 05/21/10, NY, NY; 06/22/10, Dublin, IRE; 06/23/10, Northern Ireland; 09/03/11, 09/04/11, Alpine Valley, WI; 09/11/11, 09/12/11, Toronto, Ont; 09/14/11, Ottawa, Ont; 09/15/11, Hamilton, Ont; 07/02/2012, Prague, Czech Republic; 07/04/2012 & 07/05/2012, Berlin, Germany; 07/07/2012, Stockholm, Sweden; 09/30/2012, Missoula, MT; 07/16/2013, London, Ont; 07/19/2013, Chicago, IL; 10/15/2013 & 10/16/2013, Worcester, MA; 10/21/2013 & 10/22/2013, Philadelphia, PA; 10/25/2013, Hartford, CT; 11/29/2013, Portland, OR; 11/30/2013, Spokane, WA; 12/04/2013, Vancouver, BC; 12/06/2013, Seattle, WA; 10/03/2014, St. Louis.
