I seriously hope my next car (3 years left in lease) will have Atmos in car. I would love that!

Yes it’s a new mix done by Josh Evans.

In other Pearl Jam Atmos News, Dark Matter the song is out and is streaming in Atmos in the usual places. Listening now and it sounds really good. Amazing low end on the mix. AND Dark Matter the album is getting a physical release of the Atmos mix! First time ever for the band and I hope it’s an indicator that more are to come.

Well, we do indeed have more to come. Now we can discuss Vitalogy in Atmos. AND on physical media! I have of course pre ordered my copy. Gonna try to listen to the mix on Apple Music some time today once work winds down.

Here's hoping with the new Vitalogy Blu-ray release they will also release all the albums, on Blu-ray too.

A pair of Beats headphones can give you an experience of Atmos mix on Apple Music. It may not be full-effect, but a noticeable difference. Listening to Vitalogy recently was incredible. Like watching the band on a small stage in a small room. It made me think of the album in more of a focused artistic punk-rock high octane music performance statement than I've ever thought of before.

    Stand out tracks in Atmos:

Spin The Black Circle - peak energy. firing all cylinders. You can hear Stone at the end say "wow"
Nothingman - vocals sound more crisp and harmonies in tune than ever
Bugs, Pry to - emotional listening to these again through for first time in 20 years
Better Man - you can hear how the drums were taken from the live Boston show more, and how Brendan O'Brien glued this one together. I think it was in PJ20 where BO said he could have made Betterman sound better. Now I understand why. Compare it to Yield production where drums sound warmer, more crisp, wider.

No brainer purchase.  I hope they all get released on bluray.   Our daughter is in town and we demo'd her our Atmos system.

When music is properly mixed in Atmos it's such a better listening experience than ever.  People can't believe what they're hearing.

Absolutely, a proper Atmos system featuring multiple loudspeakers is the only way to go. Headphones will allow you to enjoy a more dynamic mastering, but that's mastering and hearing what might be a different mix, nothing to do with Atmos itself.

I am going to get a set up one of these days. Ready for that even more immersive/accurate experience! @cp3iverson what system do you have?

Can someone give me a quick idiot’s guide to this Atmos stuff? How can I buy this version of Vitalogy? When I click the link in PJ’s tweet, it opens my Apple Music app but it says it’s not available in the U.S. Some other questions…

-Can it be purchased and downloaded? Or do you have to stream it through the apple app? I’ve never actually used that app other than to play music that I’ve downloaded and put on my phone, or purchased through the iTunes store.

-Do you need special headphones? Can it be played in a car? Someone above mentioned an “Atmos system”. What’s that?

-Is it even worth bothering with? Vitalogy is perfect as it is.

    Thanks for any help.

Can’t download Atmos/spatial records on Apple. The spatial albums on Apple Music are worth the $7 a month or one time charge in my opinion.

I’m no expert but I invested in AirPod Pro 2’s and back in 2009 Audio Technica studio headphones. I really enjoy the Atmos stuff and that coming from someone who only got into streaming within the last 6 years. For wired headphones you’ll need a connector that plugs a 3.5 mm headphone jack to whatever your device accepts. I am moving towards all wireless headphones actually. My ATs will be the last corded pair I own. I don’t own an Atmos system currently, but that would be the top way to go in terms of playback in 11 channels. That being said, AirPod Pros and my phone/computer are worth the investment, not just for listening to these PJ spatial releases, but for music in general. The noise cancellation feature alone did it for me - no more hearing loss whilst mowing my yard! As for Atmos breakdown, it’s been explained in this thread a few times. Basically you are listening in an immersive way. Sound coming at you from 11 different spaces.

With Atmos the only limits to how many places the sound comes at you is how many speakers you have. Atmos isn't an 11-channel mix, it's metadata that extracts sounds from the base and places them according to your configuration.

If you have the massive Denon AVR-A1H you can have a 9.4.6 Atmos system. You'd have 7 main channels (fronts, centre, surrounds, rear surrounds) then include front wides, then have 6 in ceiling Atmos speakers. This AVR can also independently calibrate four subwoofers (the ".4" part).

I'm doing renos right now to move from 5.2.4 to 7.3.4, very excited to move from upward firing modules to the preferred in ceiling option.

Well now I have to subscribe to this Apple Music forever. Not just for the PJ, but all these spatial mixes. Listening to Strange Days by The Doors right now. Like the PJ albums, it feels like I’m listening to it for the first time.
