whats that saying? get the vax starve a troll?
A big part of the problem is that the biggest anti-vaxx people in politics, social media, and on TV HAVE BEEN VACCINATED surprise surprise they are HYPOCRITES
The worst part is that their followers/viewers/voters are so damn ignorant they don't care.
they've switched gears from anti vaxx to anti vaxx mandates so they don't appear as hypocritical. but yeah....

Huge mistake for France.  Good for the US, Australia and the UK, bad for China.  France is just collateral damage in the deal.

Seems like an over reaction by France.  Anytime the western military powers send a message to China, I’m all in.  Even better when It pisses China.

I forget if it was in this thread or the Covid one but there were folks complaining that we needed to end these benefits to get lazy workers back to work. Looks like they've moved on to better opportunities. Good for them

States that ended COVID unemployment benefits see no boost in job growth

States that ended federal unemployment benefits earlier this summer saw August job growth at less than half the rate of states that retained the benefits, according to new data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Why it matters: Leaders in the largely Republican-led states had insisted that the benefits were discouraging people from work, and ended the assistance program early ahead of its planned expiration on Sept. 6.

    • The benefits, which came in the form of weekly $300 payments, had been in place since spring last year to help families through the pandemic.
    • A growing group of states began ending the benefits in June in what they called an effort to incentivize people to return to the workforce.

What they're saying: "Economists analyzing the unemployment issue have seen little evidence yet that cutting off the benefits has provided a clear boost to local labor markets, in part because of difficulties separating the influence of the payments from larger shifts in the labor force, or of the potentially offsetting damage done by the pandemic," Reuters writes.

Worth noting: When jobs are hard to fill, a broader worker awakening over the past year is part of the reason, Axios' Hope King writes.

    That’s right. Sorry I forgot.
  • HAHA, that's not true at all. we all liked to point out Trump's approval numbers because he was so childishly obsessed with them, and lied about them constantly. I couldn't care less about them as an actual political issue.

And I'll tell ya what, he's going to keep dropping in approval if unchecked illegal immigration keeps up. There was about 15,000 under a bridge in Texas a few days ago. That's down to about 5,000 as of yesterday, but it's not like the other 10,000 were deported. Most are just being released into the U.S.

He's had a bad 60 days.  We'll see where we go from here.  He doesn't have the locked in opinions that Trump has, so I think there is a higher ceiling.

That was one of Trump's biggest problems (politically-speaking, because his biggest problem is being a sociopath). He had the GOP so wrapped around his finger, that he would've been smart to make branch out and champion some left-leaning causes. In particular, federal legalization of marijuana. It's not like the GOP would abandon him for that, and many democrats would be onboard.

Right, he wasn't just "Base first".. he was "Base only".  Biden cannot be accused of that.

Or, they're not surprising given the fucking mess we're in, most of it self-inflicted. This will be the 3rd dem administration that has had to clean up the mess of their Con predecessors. President Biden has room to fall further and still be acceptable to the base. Just look at POOTWH's, and those Cons who came before, poll numbers.

President Biden is trying to address major, complicated issues on so many levels and doing it without any assistance, input or "marketplace of ideas" from the other political party, from school boards, state legislatures, governors, house and senate members and Con party leadership. Hey, but same-same.

Personally, I hope Moscow Mitchy Baby shuts the country down and the shit hits the fan. Just wait until all those SS recipients can't get their hands on their socialist, marxist, communist gubnet money. I know dems will get blamed but I'll sleep well at night knowing it was the Cons and deplorables. Welcome to the Fascist States of America. Enjoy your freedumbs.

but that is somehow biden's fault.

Except the thought is that things are going to be worse, even in states with high vaccination rates and adherence to social distancing, mask usage, etc. If anyone thinks the pandemic is over, you're going to have a rude awakening. Why wouldn't you use an average?

Also...Covid is more on people's minds than immigration. His numbers will continue to go up if cases and deaths continue to drop

I don't disagree. It was just so inevitable that you would post the 538 link that I figured I'd just do it since I was checking it myself after seeing the poll that was posted.

It was also inevitable that you'd use the word "folks" in your post lol

43% approve and 53% disapprove according to that Gallup poll. Now, it's likely that The Juggler will post the 538 link that takes multiple polls into account, so I'll just do it for him. According to it, Biden is at 46.2% approve and 48.3% disapprove

How Popular Is Joe Biden? | FiveThirtyEight

And I'll tell ya what, he's going to keep dropping in approval if unchecked illegal immigration keeps up. There was about 15,000 under a bridge in Texas a few days ago. That's down to about 5,000 as of yesterday, but it's not like the other 10,000 were deported. Most are just being released into the U.S.

    lol, told ya....

Folks....again, rather than cherry picking, please look at the average for a better overall picture. His numbers have been slowly inching up Since September 8th.

You forgot the word "probably" as it relates to "most are being released into the US."

funny that he is getting slammed for the ongoing pandemic, when all of trump's base and people in states with trumpy governors simply will not get the vaccine, will not socially distance or wear masks, or take any steps to protect themselves.

but that is somehow biden's fault.
Works both ways. I've seen models saying cases and deaths have now peaked. He'll get credit if things are quite better in a month or two.
Except the thought is that things are going to be worse, even in states with high vaccination rates and adherence to social distancing, mask usage, etc. If anyone thinks the pandemic is over, you're going to have a rude awakening. Crossed over 680K dead today and will probably hit a million by years end. 'Murica.

Some experts see signs of hope as COVID cases fall

New coronavirus cases are continuing to decline, and some experts are cautiously optimistic that the virus will continue to wane even into the fall and winter.

The big picture: The next few months are highly uncertain, and some localized outbreaks are all but guaranteed. But the U.S. is at least moving in the right direction again.

By the numbers: The U.S. is now averaging roughly 134,000 new cases per day — a 10% drop over the past two weeks.

    • The pace of new infections, relative to each state's population, is getting worse in 27 states and improving in 23. Tennessee has seen the biggest drop in new cases over the past two weeks, while Montana has seen the biggest spike.

Yes, but: Deaths have increased by about 33% over the past two weeks, to an average of about 2,000 per day.

    • Deaths are a lagging indicator — the last number to go up when a new wave begins, and the last to go down when that wave is receding.

What's next: The U.S. has seen brief moments of progress before. They've never lasted long. But some experts believe the pandemic may actually keep shrinking over the next several months.

    • The NIH is looking at models that suggest cases may be down to about 15,000 per day by November, STAT reports. Between vaccinations and people who have already been sick, the number of Americans with some immune protection from the virus is pretty high.
    • Vaccinations for kids will also help contain the virus. Children ages 5–11 could become eligible for vaccinations in the next several weeks, according to NIAID director Anthony Fauci.

The other side: Localized outbreaks are always the way viruses spread. They might balloon into another nationwide surge, or they might stay contained.

    • Either way, those ups and downs will likely continue to pose a real threat to the unvaccinated, even if the country’s overall trajectory keeps heading in the right direction.
    • And another new variant could throw off that trajectory altogether.

The bottom line: "I hope it's true, obviously, but I can't shake a little unease I have about what could be coming," Emory University biostatistics professor Natalie Dean told NPR.
