A 200 year old Brandon would still be better for ‘Murica than a 35 year and one day POOTWH.

I’m not excited at all about voting for Biden being president any longer than his first term that I wasn’t excited about to begin with.  But seeing what the GOP seems to be rolling out, it doesn’t seem I have much of a choice.

should Democrats cut Joe loose? much of this is based on his age and global economics rather than national:

    https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/26/opinions/democrats-need-fresh-ideas-not-biden-gabriel/index.html
A conservative writer casting doubt on the guy who's proven he can beat the likely GOP candidate next year... I'm hard pressed to think that article was written in good faith.
his approval rating is in the toilet. I'm not saying he can't beat trump, and obviously trump's was in the toilet a lot too.

then forget the article. is it all about winning at this point? nothing about energizing the country and uniting people? just "own the 'pubs"?

IMO wishing for a candidate to energize the country and unite the people are pie in the sky goals for times with less serious stakes. No such candidate is coming along in the next year.

& considering the stakes.... yeah, it's all about [Biden] winning right now, and no, not to "own the pubs", but for the good of the country.

Do you not think America will be way better off with Biden winning next year over trump?
haha of course we'd be better off with biden. and yes, I understand that's pie in the sky idealism. it's just unfortunate that it is.
I get what you're saying, I would love a younger candidate too, I'm no fan of Biden (until he's standing next to trump, which unfortunately is the only measure we have here, it's one or the other... that's our reality).

If the conservative who wrote that really cared about the future of the country, he wouldn't be asking the democrats to try to do better...  he would be looking at the GOP. That's why I don't think those articles are written in good faith.

The cracks about Biden's age are especially comical considering he's in much better shape both physically & mentally than tfg, who will almost certainly be his opponent.

FWIW, I get it, I would like younger candidates too, but both guys running next year are going to be in their 80s & there's fuck all anyone can do about it (beyond posting inane and unintelligent cartoons of course)
I'm honestly shocked that tRump hasn't had a heart attack yet. He has to be horribly unhealthy. Overweight, no exercise, drinks diet coke all fucking day.
some people's ability to carry on defies logic. some smoke for 5 years and get cancer. some smoke for 80 and no effect.
I don't know what you mean.

Where was this “news” in 2020? Oh yea right, on Hunter’s laptop. If only Ghouliani had thought of this, he might have held a press conference at the Four Seasons and he might be wandering the halls of the White House instead of Mar-I-Lieo. Tough break there Ruddy.

Sure, we can vote for whoever we want. Until recent years I voted 3rd party in every presidential election.

But considering the most likely scenario we're staring down next year is 4 more years of Biden or 4 more years of trump, I won't be throwing away my vote on a 3rd party candidate. (In the end my vote doesn't matter all that much, my state always goes blue, but the principal alone based on the candidates in play will be more than enough to push me to vote Biden).

You can dream of and talk about a world where we have younger and more vibrant candidates getting the party nominations, but that's simply not our reality at this point.

Its only our reality because its not who we voted for.
You said there's nothing we can do about it, we're stuck with old people. We're only stuck with old people because that's what we voted for.  Only the people we elect hold office.

I don't know why Biden has the lead in polls, I would think the majority would want someone new and younger in there.
I have no idea why Trump is in the lead. I would also think they'd want someone new, younger, and no indicted in there.

But its what we keep voting for.

I can tell you that GenZ will vote for Biden. They want someone younger but they won't vote for a republican.

My opinion....the majority of GenZ will not vote GOP. This seems to be holding up in recent elections.

& we're going to need all those votes going the same way, because we know god damn well the republicans are all going to show up to vote for their guy (they always do) and their guy will be trump.

& if 2024 is close, it will be January 6th all over again, probably worse.

    Not really.

I'm just saying they're only in office because we keep voting them in office.
When you said "there's fuck all" we can do about it makes it sound inevitable. Well, its only this way because the majority of people want it this way.

I don't get it either. I don't see why Trump or Biden would be at the top of anyone's list. But apparently that's what most people want in a candidate I guess.

Oh I don't know... I see the appeal with trump for a lot of Americans. He hate's all the right people and there's no shortage of Americans who would rather burn this country down than share it with the people they don't like.

I don't love Biden, but he's adequate and can beat trump. Unfortunately, that's enough for me (& a lot of other people too)

That may be a funny side effect to tfg's election fraud claims... I can't cite any sources off the top of my head, but I seem to recall some conservative pundits complaining that not enough conservatives got out to vote last November for that very reason... which is all sorts of fucking hilarious.

Never said I was. Clearly the ones with the most votes and support are the oldest candidates. I'd prefer someone younger. Doesn't have to be young, but not in their 80s. Based on the last election, and prediction of the next one, I am in the minority.

You're not going to unseat a president running for re-election.  I think if Biden wasn't currently the president, he would have a difficult time winning the nomination this round.  I am pretty good with the D bench right now.  I think we'll be in good shape come '28.

The last campaign had too many candidates that were either too far left, or had a major issue.  Biden was my choice because the other choices were annoying.

I don't know why Biden has the lead in polls, I would think the majority would want someone new and younger in there.
I have no idea why Trump is in the lead. I would also think they'd want someone new, younger, and no indicted in there.

But its what we keep voting for.
maybe you are not in a majority?
Never said I was. Clearly the ones with the most votes and support are the oldest candidates. I'd prefer someone younger. Doesn't have to be young, but not in their 80s. Based on the last election, and prediction of the next one, I am in the minority.
You're not going to unseat a president running for re-election.  I think if Biden wasn't currently the president, he would have a difficult time winning the nomination this round.  I am pretty good with the D bench right now.  I think we'll be in good shape come '28.

The last campaign had too many candidates that were either too far left, or had a major issue.  Biden was my choice because the other choices were annoying.
after trump, anyone with a "major issue" has pretty wide lattitude in the gop. not with the dems though. dems will throw people out of the party for doing a fraction of what trump has done.

You said there's nothing we can do about it, we're stuck with old people. We're only stuck with old people because that's what we voted for.  Only the people we elect hold office.

Most years I would completely agree. But I think this is different. I think most people assumed Biden would not run for reelection. I'm pretty sure his campaign or advisors even said so at least once too. The oldest president before was Regan, and he was 73 when elected I think. He will have almost 10 years on Regan by the election. So its not unreasonable to think some trends may be broken and have a new candidate.
It doesn't appear that will happen, but a while ago I thought it would.

I don't think most people assumed he would not run again. People may have hoped that to be the case though.

If Trump wasn't running, I think the odds of Biden not running would have increased. But he's beaten him once and likely has the best odds of beating  him again.

I am approaching 45 and cannot wait to retire. Can you imagine having THAT job at 70/80 years old? Fucking ridiculous.
