  • Gee, I wonder if vaccination rates, education levels, belief in science, level of understanding of the why masks and social distancing are important during a pandemic and ability to discern reality from an alternate universe would correlate with this?

    Right and this thread is about Biden and Biden is pretending that his base to compare jobs to was normal.
    I am not sure what this sentence means.
    New jobs being up cause stuff was closed has very little to do with Biden at all. The base he is comparing against was really low Jobs when things were closed
    What was closed in December that opened back up in January?
    Oh man…you know jobs that were lost between march 2020 & today are coming back….do you really not understand?
    Yes I completely understand. The growth was for one month. Not from March 2020
    Did you look at the chart I posted? We aren’t back to level. Look I get why people tout these numbers but it’s just all political bullshit.
    Ok but they are touting the numbers because they didn't expect these numbers. Regardless of whether we are back to level or not the unemployment rate is 4%. These numbers are good....no way around that. If there were job losses that would not be good.
    I wonder how much credit Biden gives to the governors of states that removed all sorts of restrictions….and I wonder at what cost of human life some of these job numbers came from…

    Anyhow, I understand your point and just fundamentally disagree that it is anything to really celebrate. Once back to base…then it certainly would be. And as you say at least it isn’t a troubling sign.
    It's absolutely celebration worth for the economy to have added jobs during the last three months, with Omicron raging.  I don't understand how you can be so cynical about what is so clearly good news.  You can pick around whether Biden gets all the credit or not.  And all of us have said that presidents get too much blame and too much credit for the economy, but considering he has shouldered ALL the blame over the past five months, a little reprieve is warranted.

    And let's not forget about the blowout GDP year we had.
    Are you really surprised? No one cares about omnicron or Covid anymore. It’s business as usual in many many places and places have been trying to hire for a long time.

    Ending that free $ likely helped some too.

    Can you imagine being an incumbent and not touting economic success during an election year?

    Lol.
    I’m not sure we are talking the same subject. I get WHY Biden would tout the jobs….it’s political. But in reality, it’s weird to think that these jobs coming back are anything more than just people stopping caring about Covid and places open for business.

    The original lockdown did exactly what it was designed to do, slow the hospitalizations and deaths until treatments can be determined and keep hospitals from overflowing. There has been a lot of heat lately thrown at “lockdowns” but anyone having doubts, examine the NY death curve. Spring 2020, before masks and distancing, it was vertical, since then, horizontal.

    Biden determined the Obama recovery approach was too slow, it took over six years to recover the Great Recession job losses and that led to wage stagnation. The Covid job losses are almost triple that of the Great Recession. So if the Biden recovery were at the same pace as Obama’s, your chart would show the jobs recovered by 2038. Pretty solid job by Biden and the Dems.

    A pandemic presented far greater challenges yet this recovery is much faster, by design. For that Biden and his party should be rewarded, yet they will not, partly because democrats are not unified in messaging and belief.

    I am not debating any of that. Just that in reality taking credit for jobs coming back due to people not worrying about Covid anymore that were taken away due to Covid is dumb. Politically since we are all too stupid to not just buy into talking points it makes sense. But in reality this measure has little to nothing to do with Biden’s presidency.

    O honestly don't get your point.  If you're saying he didn't deserve credit,  sure. But then you must believe he didn't deserve blame for inflation either. But we're talking about political reality.  A reality that had been true forever. So Biden has the right to victory lap the news yesterday.

    Yes we are not talking the same point. Cause I’m not blaming Biden for taking credit policitally. Just that in reality with Covid this is so dumb. It’d be like assigning him blame for the Covid deaths.

    What's dumber politically? Not credit for a growing economy during an election year or ignoring it?

    Rhetorical, obviously. Biden should be taking even more credit, in my opinion.

    Oh I agree.  Biden owns nothing in regards to Covid deaths, etc.  Sure he was slow with some things such as testing, etc.  BUt he took a swing at what would have been the 2nd biggest game changer (the 1st being vaccines readily available for those that want them) and that was trying to use OSHA to protect workers through a vaccine mandate.  Wish it would have gone through.

    Putin is Xi's bitch. He can't make a move without approval from the CCCP. And you're on Team Putin. How does that feel? How does it feel to be on the wrong side?  Sad.

    You know who's on Team Biden? Germany.  There no daylight between our countries in this issue.  That means there's no Nord2 pipeline. Yeah. Get a clue.

  • The administration is now handing out crack pipes, aka "safe smoking kits." Well, not just crack pipes. The other stuff on the list seems reasonable enough. Limiting infections is a good thing. But I'm not sure handing out crack pipes and syringes will do that. Won't those pipes and syringes become just as infected as the ones that are already out on the street?

    WASHINGTON (WTAJ) — To limit infections among drug users, the Biden administration is creating a $30 million grant program for non-profits to purchase ‘harm reduction materials’ including crack pipes and smoking kits.

    One of the aspects of the program will provide funds to local governments and non-profits to distribute clean pipes and smoking kits to help make drug use safer for addicts. The kits are just one aspect of a list of items that the funding can be used for under the FY 2022 Harm Reduction Program Grant (Harm Reduction).

    While the kits reportedly aim to reduce the risk of infections for people who smoke these substances with glass pipes, the Harm Reduction funding can also help with the following:
    • Infectious diseases testing kits (HIV, HBV, HCV, etc.);
    • Medication lock boxes;
    • FDA-approved overdose reversal medication(as well as higher dosages now approved by FDA);
    • Safe sex kits, including PrEP resources and condoms;
    • Safe smoking kits/supplies;
    • Screening for infectious diseases (HIV, sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis);
    • Sharps disposal and medication disposal kits;
    • Substance test kits, including test strips for fentanyl and other synthetic drugs;
    • Syringes to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases;
    • Vaccination services (hepatitis A, hepatitis B vaccination); and
    • Wound care management supplies.

    In addition, funding can also help with key personnel, education, and require things such as assembling a harm reduction advisory council that meets regularly to guide program activities and project implementation.

    You can read the entire 75-page Harm Reduction grant form by clicking here.

    Selling or distributing drug paraphernalia is against federal law, unless authorized by the government. Funding for the program comes from Democrat’s American Rescue Plan.

    The administration is now handing out crack pipes, aka "safe smoking kits." Well, not just crack pipes.

    • Infectious diseases testing kits (HIV, HBV, HCV, etc.);
    • Medication lock boxes;
    • FDA-approved overdose reversal medication(as well as higher dosages now approved by FDA);
    • Safe sex kits, including PrEP resources and condoms;
    • Safe smoking kits/supplies;
    • Screening for infectious diseases (HIV, sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis);
    • Sharps disposal and medication disposal kits;
    • Substance test kits, including test strips for fentanyl and other synthetic drugs;
    • Syringes to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases;
    • Vaccination services (hepatitis A, hepatitis B vaccination); and
    • Wound care management supplies.

    In addition, funding can also help with key personnel, education, and require things such as assembling a harm reduction advisory council that meets regularly to guide program activities and project implementation.

    Selling or distributing drug paraphernalia is against federal law, unless authorized by the government. Funding for the program comes from Democrat’s American Rescue Plan.

    Michael Berry is a conservative radio asshole that I heard blowing this out of proportion last night.  I listen to right wing radio for my own opposition research.  Basically, the point is how dare they that to help people that have drug problems, especially crack.  It's just something very weak to get outraged over.  Trying to help people, oh the humanity.

    I don’t think posting about the grant in this thread, and questioning how well that pipe/syringe aspect of it will work, is tantamount to being a conservative radio asshole blowing it out of proportion. But then again, I posted it here so I guess that’s the expected response. The administration is now handing out crack pipes, aka "safe smoking kits." Well, not just crack pipes.

    • Infectious diseases testing kits (HIV, HBV, HCV, etc.);
    • Medication lock boxes;
    • FDA-approved overdose reversal medication(as well as higher dosages now approved by FDA);
    • Safe sex kits, including PrEP resources and condoms;
    • Safe smoking kits/supplies;
    • Screening for infectious diseases (HIV, sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis);
    • Sharps disposal and medication disposal kits;
    • Substance test kits, including test strips for fentanyl and other synthetic drugs;
    • Syringes to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases;

    Michael Barry is that you?
    Do you mean Marion? And what about that Ford fella north of the border whose brother is oppressing all of those truckers?
    Michael Berry is a conservative radio asshole that I heard blowing this out of proportion last night.  I listen to right wing radio for my own opposition research.  Basically, the point is how dare they that to help people that have drug problems, especially crack.  It's just something very weak to get outraged over.  Trying to help people, oh the humanity.
    I don’t think posting about the grant in this thread, and questioning how well that pipe/syringe aspect of it will work, is tantamount to being a conservative radio asshole blowing it out of proportion. But then again, I posted it here so I guess that’s the expected response. For reference’s sake, next time, just go with like Tucker Carlson or someone else people actually know rather some obscure radio guy that you listen to for your ”opposition research.”

    static didnt say anything about it being posted here. only that they heard about it on the radio show.

    Kinda weird that was the first response.

    fair enough.

    I want to point out something. you assume the safe smoking pipes were about crack. you can slso smoke heroin or meth as well as powder cocaine.

    personally from my experience, I cant see how distribution  of smoking mechanisms would help from a health stand point. but without knowing the reasoning behind it, I'll  reserve any judgement for or against.

    Everything I’ve read points to the reasoning being that new clean pipes/syringes will reduce infections among users. But as I asked in my first post, won’t those just become infected too? I don’t think your typical drug-addicted person gets a new government-issued crack/heroin/meth pipe and thinks “Well I’m going to be careful with this one.”

    well it would be in the sharing. so user gets their own , boom  harm reduction. I read the article halifax posted. thats just one small component , pipes/needles, to the overall premise. seems weighted toward treatment and overdose prevention/mitagation.

    surely something needs done. this may be a good first step with some tweaks as results emerge.

    Palm Beach Post article explains the policy well. $30M over 3 years and the “crack pipe” distribution via “smoking kits” is just another dog whistle. 3/4 of overdose deaths are from opioid based products and the smoking kits are rubber tips for pipes, screens and alcohol wipes to try to prevent the spread of Hep A+B, among other things. Kit components are determined by community based drug treatment coalitions represented by counselors, former addicts, law enforcement and drug treatment medical representatives. You’d think those illegals with calves the size of cantaloupes were distributing crack pipes in a neighborhood near you. The horror.

    How do the repubs feel about treating the opioid crisis? Anyone? Fucker Carlson have any thoughts? Do the repubs have a plan to fight drug addiction or is out there with their health plan? Or they can describe it like Obamagate? Faux rage of the week.

    Important part to me is that it’s in the form of grant money that will hopefully make its way to people not completely out of touch or want to turn a blind eye to reality.
