Yet Colin Kapernick expresses his feelings, exercising his first amendment rights and loses his job and gets blacklisted from the NFL and has to sign an NDA as part of a settlement. Then is called a son of a bitch by Team Trump Treason at a public hate rally and has white fans publicly burning his jersey. You better believe the world is upside down. I hope his African American offensive lineman do a purposefully poor job of blocking for him so defensive players can sack his ass and whisper to him what they think about his comments as they get up slowly from the pile. I’m sure there’ll be some Vike and Hawk players happy to oblige. Poor Drew.RYME said:

We live in an upside down world.
During an interview with Yahoo Finance on Wednesday, Brees reiterated his stance that he will "never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America."
Brees was asked on Wednesday for his opinion on players potentially kneeling during the national anthem in 2020. He said kneeling during the anthem was disrespectful, citing his grandfathers' military service during World War II."Let me just tell what I see or what I feel when the national anthem is played and when I look at the flag of the United States," Brees told Yahoo Finance. "I envision my two grandfathers, who fought for this country during World War II, one in the Army and one in the Marine Corp. Both risking their lives to protect our country and to try to make our country and this world a better place. So every time I stand with my hand over my heart looking at that flag and singing the national anthem, that’s what I think about."

Please don't spread misinformation. No one (here anyway) is criticizing him for talking about his grandfather and serving and why he stands for the anthem. Also, no one made him apologize. He didn't realize how his words would be perceived and made a decision, like any responsible adult should, to clear things up and that he meant no disrespect. Unlike our president, people who make mistakes can apologize without it being a blame the "left" response.RYME said:

Look, when you call kneeling "disrespecting the flag" it shows that you aren't paying attention. To allow Drew a pass on how he feels, but condemn the people with convictions every bit as strong about the symbolism of kneeling in protest of police brutality, that smacks of white privilege. Drew screwed up and apologized. But go ahead and side with Laura Ingraham in saying that Drew's original statement was fine. I know I would need to do a gut check if I found myself on the same side as that deplorable."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080

there was such a strong backlash against brees because he is not fucking listening. he is a smart guy and he is not fucking listening to what is being said. how many times has it been stated that taking a knee is not against the flag or the troops, but against police brutality? like thousands. it has been said by colin k and most of the other people that were taking knees a couple of years ago. the fact that brees is knowingly misrepresenting what the movement is about and playing stupid about it is why there has been such an uproar."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

So is standing during the national anthem, with your hand over your heart, viewed as being disrespectful now? At least in NFL circles. It is a genuine question I don't know the answer to.0
-
Can’t both co-exist? I think the disrespectful thing is calling out someone else’s stand on the matter as a disrespectful act. At this time it seems easy enough to say something like I support my teammates decision to protest, but I will be standing in remembrance of my family that served in ww2. Has anyone said him choosing to stand is disrespectful? Tone deaf maybe. The disrespectful thing is defining someone else’s act of protest as disrespectful through your own 100m dollar nfl quarterback lens. Nothing against him standing. Just against him defining the actions of others.bbiggs said:So is standing during the national anthem, with your hand over your heart, viewed as being disrespectful now? At least in NFL circles. I don't think it is. And I don't think taking a knee is either. One is outwardly calling attention to love of country and flag. The other is outwardly calling attention to the way a segment of our population is treated by those in authority. For me, neither is necessary at a sporting event, and both are an exercise of speech, so I'll condemn neither, and probably won't participate in either. I'm just there for the beer and the competition.bbiggs said:So is standing during the national anthem, with your hand over your heart, viewed as being disrespectful now? At least in NFL circles. No, I’m selecting the one part that is most relevant and the reason why so many others, including his African American colleagues, are angry and disappointed.bbiggs said:
