Trump is fucked.  There is no coming back from this.  I hope I am wrong but I think the virus situation is going to get much worse and inevitably it will be October when influenza season starts as well.

He simply cannot do anything reasonable that improves his approval %....nothing.  He's an absolute piece of shit and Lindsey Graham was right, he's going to take the party down with him and they will deserve it.

Yeah I don't think there's anything Trump can do himself to improve his numbers. His only chance is to hope Biden fucks up. The only way that can happen is Biden picking the worst possible running mate he can, or if he bombs really, really bad in a debate. Even those probably won't be enough, but they could narrow the gap.

That's a good point. He's so damn stubborn that he can't (in his mind) change his stance now. But you're right, if he handled this like a normal leader, he could've retained his pervious support, and maybe even gained a little more. People on the fence about him could have been like "Well yeah he's immature and stupid, but when actual crisis came, he stepped up like a real leader." But like you said, he's done the complete opposite.

In a perverse way, the pandemic (or any disaster) really is an opportunity to solidify yourself as a leader fairly easily. Look at any Governor who completely bungled their state's response but has sky high approval ratings because they went on tv and gave daily updates. Hell, we all thought Rudy Giuliani was basically Teddy Roosevelt at one point. It takes real effort to blow it like Trump.

Yeah and now he's using schools as a battleground.

A high school near me just announced that a football player had COVID so they have shut down football practice for a week.  How are we going to handle this when schools open in a few weeks?  Shut down the school every time someone tests positive?  That is the precedent being set here.

    This is fucking crazy

While it's a difficult thing to navigate, there's no doubt that the virus was a hanging curveball for him.  He had the chance to be a leader but he failed.  He shows us what he values, time and again.  And it's not us.

Another good point, and proof that while Trump was a pretty good politician for a hot-minute there in 2016, it all seems like a fluke now. Fauci was a godsend for him. The infection disease expert. Let him and his people handle it all. If they do well, that good. It would be perceived that Trump was right to let the experts do their thing. And if Fauci and his team fucked up, Trump could (and would) blame him.

Trump's biggest folly (politically) in all this was prioritizing the economy over the virus. I get why he did it. From his perspective, his good economy was the best thing he had going and he didn't want to see it messed with. But shit happens and you have to adjust. That's what most of the real presidents have had to do when crisis or war happened.

Team Trump Treason's greatest, biggest, bestist rally yet was cancelled in New Hampshire. Because of a tropical storm. Big 'ol scaredy cat lashing out because all those "educated" folks falsified the weather to keep him from his minions.

He cancelled his rally, supposedly, because of the tropical storm. Current forecast in NH tomorrow looks like upper 70's with a 10% chance of rain.

W and Rudy are the best example of that.  9/11 is the best thing that happened to them, politically speaking.  W might not even get re-elected without it.  And it's hard to fathom now, but Rudy was a superstar for a while.

I don't think W necessarily did anything outstanding, but My Pet Goat notwithstanding, he didn't make it worse. He didn't divide.  Did he exploit it for political gain?  Yeah and he was able to do it after he said some fairly simple unifying things.  To be fair, it's probably easier to unify the country after it's attacked by terrorists, but Trump doesn't seem to have the basic leadership sense to even open by saying "this is impacting all of us and we need to look out for each other."  And while he doesn't hire "the best people, someone must have suggested this to him and it appears that he flatly rejects this basic advice.

Disasters are the absolute best time to show great leadership.  But he chose to whine, accuse, blame, and look out for himself. With the except of 40% of Americans in 2020, nobody in the history of the world finds that to be good leadership.

What's amazing is that Trump could likely improve his chances by taking the virus seriously....yet he just won't fucking do it.
While it's a difficult thing to navigate, there's no doubt that the virus was a hanging curveball for him.  He had the chance to be a leader but he failed.  He shows us what he values, time and again.  And it's not us.
And he had Fauci out in front ready to be the face of the gov't response....instead tRump silences him.  Just fucking yesterday tRump said that Fauci wasn't always right and was "wrong a lot"....really fucking weird.

One of his other big follies is is impatience. He can't play the long game that would help himself out as a narcissist and let Fauci do what he was going to do, let people criticize him and then either take credit or shift blame.  I am sure part of it stems from a lifetime surrounded by ye\s-men who provide instant gratification.

He cancelled his rally, supposedly, because of the tropical storm. Current forecast in NH tomorrow looks like upper 70's with a 10% chance of rain.

    I'm sitting this one out
There is a tropical storm coming through. I'm closer to Boston and the forecast for most of the week said it was going to hit us, with NH being due north. Now it looks to be staying a bit further west. It's weird to have to confirm this, but some of y'all will get huffy about anything.

Team Trump Treason could just get his sharpie out and redirect the storm away from Portsmouth, NH, right? Make the storm take a hard left into Connecticut or Rhode Island, right?

There's another way to look at it.   The skillset needed to win an election isn't the same skillset needed to do the job.     Trump seems to have really enjoyed the campaigning aspect,  enjoyed working to get the gig, but doesn't really seem to want the actual job (just the prestige of saying he's the president).

I think that's one of the negatives how elections are structured in democratic nations.   It's a weird process.

There was discussion years ago that tRump didn't want to win in 2016 and didn't expect to win.  He was just in this to make his brand more valuable.  Instead I believe he has shown how worthless he is.

His chud maga idiots don't have the money (or not enough of them do at least) to support his fat ass once he is out of office.

    He's fucked legally and financially.
There were times I thought he didn’t want to win.  Of course, much of that was based on the bizarre things he was say before aI realized just how nuts he is.

Now?  I am sure he knows his life would be better without the job but his ego won’t allow it.
Or he realizes that he is legally fucked as soon as he leaves office.  Mueller is going to haunt him.

What's amazing is that Trump could likely improve his chances by taking the virus seriously....yet he just won't fucking do it.

He had no idea what the job actually was. Unlikely he fully understands it even today.

I’m sure he thought it was much closer to dictator than it is.  I knew coming in that he’d struggle with the slow speed, bureaucracy, and push back as a result of a lifetime of yes-men giving him instant gratification.  He definitely likes the novelty of being president more than the job.

His photo op of walking around that corner with his mask on, followed by all of the military officers was pretty telling.  He probably orchestrated that himself.
