Poor Jimmy Carter. Being lumped in with the likes of Trump. Trump is in a class by himself and hopefully will be the only one of his kind.
Carter is before my time...but he must have been really ineffective.  Because Trump is not just a terrible president, but a disgrace to the office and a terrible person.  Jimmy wasn't the latter two...but the little I do know, his presidency was a disaster.  Then again, Jimmy might be the most decent guy to hold that office.  Nice guys finish last...

The country wasn't as polarized either.  If Carter was president today, with the same circumstances as he had in the late 70's (inflation, OPEC crisis, Iran, etc.), my guess is he'd be in the mid-40's for approval.  The floor of support is different now than it was then, same with the ceiling.  Likewise, if you look at Reagan's winning map in 84, you'll never see that again unless we have a dictator and there's one name on the card.

    So we might...
Certainly he'd like to be, but it's encouraging when Esper backtracks from the dispersing of the protesters, and of course the clear criticism by Mattis, Kelly and Powell, three of the most senior generals alive today.  You can't take over a country without the generals or the population.  Right now, he has neither and he's bleeding democratic support for both.
    Kelly? I missed that.
General Kelly defended Mattis, to be specific..

“The president did not fire him. He did not ask for his resignation,” Kelly, a retired Marine Corps general, said in an interview. “The president has clearly forgotten how it actually happened or is confused. The president tweeted a very positive tweet about Jim until he started to see on Fox News their interpretation of his letter. Then he got nasty. Jim Mattis is a honorable man.”

I wish it broke it down by income....you do have to stand in awe of how the GOP was able to get non-college educated poor people to favor them.  And it all relates to racism and bigotry.

Maybe racism and bigotry, but certainly there's a grievance element to it. He plays into the mindset that something happened to them that wasn't fair.

65+ is the big takeaway for me.  Also, his lead among women swamps the small deficit with men.  And considering that more women vote than men, that's great news for us.

further proof that one can be dumb and still understand the difference between decency and cruelty.

if these trends continue, trump may be headed for the worst electoral defeat in american history.

Which would make his statements about his own "electoral landslide" even more interesting....if that was a landslide what do you call 498-40?

It will be interesting to see if Pence can be convinced to bow out....maybe he will say he doesn't have enough time to read the bible.

tRump knows he needs more of the female vote...but would Haley sign on to this mess?  Now I'm thinking he will try to run with Candace Owens.

I can imagine a big, dramatic surprise at the repub convention where Pence steps to the podium and gives the red meat speech of god, guns and abortion and how it’s been an honor to work for the greatest world leader ever but now the lord has called him to spend more time with family but the lord has called on Nikki Styxx to be the next VP to carry Team Trump Treason’s vision of America forward. Nikki comes out makes a speech and they both take a knee as Team Trump Treason strides out, flipping his suit jacket and squaring his jaw to the applause. Made for tv greatness. And 12 years of a repub White House.

My thought was the female vote...the evangelicals will still vote for him as long as he holds up a bible every once in awhile.

Don’t underestimate the pull of the power of the White House. Why wouldn’t she tolerate Team Trump Treason for four years so she could have eight as dear leader? She’s smarter than him and would out maneuver him to stay in his good graces.

Really?  She seems hopelessly devoted to Trump if you ask me.  I think if she's asked she's all in.  Mitt Romney appears to be playing the long game with his legacy.  The rest are playing the short game with their power.

I agree that Pence has kind of out-lasted his usefulness.  He brought the evangelicals in, but now they love Trump and don't need an actual evangelical on the ticket...just a heathen that will always go to bat for them.  And Haley probably helps with the woman vote.  The question is whether they fear the optics...are they admitting there's something wrong with the administration if they dump the #2 person?
On the other hand, Pence seems like an unlikely carrier of the GOP torch to 2024. The goal here is one-party domination and Trump exiting in 2024 to either let Pence (who I don't think will generate that much excitement) run or to put it back into the primary system may seem risky.
My odds on Trump's running mate:
    • Pence: 60%. It just seems so unusual to change...but then again, unusual is a selling point for this administration...
    • Haley: 25%.
    • Ivanka: 10%. I doubt the high-profile GOP members really want a Trump dynasty, but the rank-and-file voters do.  And more importantly, so do the Trumps.  I think this could happen.
    • Other: 5%.  Don, Jr? (probably too similar to Don, Sr.). Some other darkhorse, like a young Trumpy...Dan Crenshaw, for example?  Long-shot.

LOL...I just don't think it will be Haley anymore.  Even she isn't that stupid

Long-shot.
Tom “I’m a Warrior, Hear Me Roar” Cotton should get 5-10% consideration. They wouldn’t lose a senate seat as he’s running unopposed and it would open the door for Sarah Hucksterabee Sanders to bring her annoying voice back to DC.

Good analysis by all.  These are all plausible scenarios.  Knowing Biden is selecting a female, would a middle of the road woman inclined to vote Biden really switch due to Haley?  Maybe.  Interesting.

I took it as the fact his record with the African American population is much better than Trumps and it would be a no brainer to vote for him over Trump. People are calling this racist? I see it as him patting his own back.

I'm not sure that Crenshaw would sign on to the mess either....I could be wrong

I'm real curious about Biden's selection....I'm not sure who I would consider as being ready to take over the oval other than Warren.

The Atlanta mayor is a hot choice right now. Former judge, mayor of a big diverse city in the south. I would strongly consider her if I were Biden.

I always think of the names though. Biden/Bottoms doesn't have the best ring to it. lol

What is with the talk of Trump ditching Pence? Did I miss something?

I like her....I just don't think she meets the experience requirement if something happens to Biden.

There have been rumors of tRump ditching Pence for awhile.  tRump will only listen to advisors for so long and then he will go with his gut which gets him into trouble all the time.  Just speculation though.
