So what happens if Trump actually wins. Fairly wins, not wins through a cheat or refuses to concede defeat?  Obviously fascism, etc. but how will that reshape politics if we don’t end up with a full one party Russian style system?
I'd prefer not to think about that at the moment. lol
I was just having some real anxiety over the weekend thinking about that.  I think the DNC is currently playing it too safe.  I’m worried that the polling could be off because people could be lying to the pollsters etc.  Also I’m feeling the same general unease that I felt in 2016 in regards to how close to the vest some people are playing their support of Trump.  I think there is something to be said about that silent majority, I don’t think it’s just a bunch of Hicks and Qs, I think there are a lot of folks that like conservative law and order, free market mythology that are just keeping quiet.
Well I would say there is no silent majority and there never was one as Trump has literally never had the support of the majority of Americans, even when winning the election. If anything they are a vocal minority.

Also would not worry about the polling too much. It is real steady and, compared to 2016, we also have Trump's general approval numbers to compare it with.

Playing it safe is something I might be concerned with though. I was hoping to hear Biden say, last  night, that they would start traveling around a bit more. As much as staying home has worked over the last four months, I still think they're gonna have to get out there more after Labor Day. Trump is doing that in a smaller capacity than his stupid mega rallies. Hopefully Biden can do something similar, outside with masks and social distancing.

My biggest worry is still Trump stealing the election through voter suppression/fucking with the post office, and covid getting worse which causes more people to stay home.

I'm also anticipating some bullshit bombshell (Durham or something else) coming out before the debates in hopes of throwing Biden off.....though I will say Biden has been pretty sharp lately. He looked good in that interview last night.
Reminds me of a cheesy I made up a couple years ago:

Q: How do you know someone is a trump supporter?

A: They will be DAMN SURE TO TELL YOU!

I'm seeing chatter on twitter about the Dems wanting to have a hearing regarding Eric Trump given his recent issues with New York.  Behind the scenes they might be threatening to drag his ass in if the GOP pushes the Hunter Biden bullshit.

Eric pleading the 5th yesterday is much deeper than anything related to Hunter Biden as far as I can tell.

Anyone else think it’s hilarious that the RNC is using the same plan of attack on Safe choice Joe Moderate Dem re:radical, socialist etc. That the DNC was worried about with Crazy Socialist Bernie.

This about sums up the RNC convention—it doesn’t really make any sense. They’re down by a decent margin. And they’re trying to rev up the people who were going to vote for him anyway, and polls show those people already have their minds made up.

Some have said the Dems sort of did the same thing. Difference is Biden’s had a steady 8ish point lead for four months now. He just needs to stay the course.

As a Biden supporter, I strongly endorse three more nights like the first

predictable. it's their only play. it's amazing to me that they drone on and on and on about the left playing the politics of fear, when it's clearly the opposite, and their supporters eat it up.

the right trying to reinforce their ridiculous idea that the democratic party is racist by pointing out richard spencer has endorsed biden. his campaign told him to shove it immediately, and the right is still going on about it.

So I watched the entire night.

    1) So far the production of the DNC was far superior to RNC. Will see if they can catch up.
    2) Beginning was the worst fear mongering I’ve seen ever
    3) Most speakers were shouting at me...and lying.
    4) Hershel Walker was actually compelling. I mean I don’t agree or believe him but he was the first decent speaker
    5) Tim Scott and Nikki Haley speeches seemed like normal convention speeches.
    6) No masks or distancing....
    7) Used stats pre-covid. What the hell?
    8) A few actually decent policy differences mentioned, but few and far between.

i am interested in how Dems would respond to governing forever some cities that still haven’t helped African American community.

    Mostly Agree.

Regarding Hershel, though....he was so full of shit if you know the history of the USFL. Trump was not a good owner. The league went under primarily because of his gross incompetence and ego. It's a perfect example of what he's doing to the country (and what he did with all his failed casinos).

Oh I agree Hershel was talking out of his bum...but he was the first speaker that delivered well.  And for those that want to hear it and believe it even if it isn't true, I think he was likely effective.  Look for lots of trumpers to bring up Hershel now.

This stuff doesn't matter much but it's still worth noting because Trump obviously cares deeply about tv ratings. And they have hyped up the fact that he will be appearing each night. Despite that, ratings are lower than the DNC's:

    https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/republican-national-convention-night-one-ratings-1234747923/

Republican National Convention Night 1 Down on DNC in Early Numbers

    AP

The first night of the Republican National Convention was down a touch in total viewership on the first night of the Democratic National Convention, at least according to early numbers.

Across the three broadcast networks, the RNC night 1 drew around 4.9 million total viewers, a 14% drop from last Monday’s DNC first night which drew 5.7 million.

Looking at the networks individually, ABC scored the largest total viewership (as it did for the DNC), drawing 1.8 million viewers. NBC was right behind with 1.7 million, followed by CBS with 1.4 million.

As was the case with the DNC last week, it appears that the RNC is on course for much smaller numbers than the previous edition from four years ago. For comparison, the first night of the 2016 RNC delivered 10.1 million viewers in the preliminary broadcast ratings, more than twice the tally from this time around.

I thought what Tim Scott said about Democrats wanting to create a "socialist utopia" funny as hell.
Ummm, Mr. Scott, do you know what the word "utopia" means?  How the fuck to these people get elected into office?

    True!

I've just been watching clips of the Republican Convention (no way could stomach hours of it) and what I've seen would lead me to be totally embarrassed to call myself a Republican.   Totally, utterly embarrassed!

My wife got her mail-in ballot for the upcoming Massachusetts primary. She chose to receive the republican ballot. I've never seen a more blank ballot. There are, I think, three races on it in which republicans are participating, only one of which has a choice between two candidates. The other two are unopposed.

I chose to receive the democrat ballot because anytime one has the opportunity to vote against a Kennedy, one should use it. The icing on the cake here is that it's also a proxy vote against Pelosi. I also get to check off a box next to my incumbent representative, Seth Moulton, which is great. I don't know how long a fella like him will last in politics, but I'd like to keep him as my representative for as long as he continues to take his job as seriously as he has been doing. Great representation and great leadership.

Kennedy is running for a senate seat.  How is that a proxy vote?  Is it because she endorsed the progressive candidate?  I don't think it puts her speakership in jeopardy?

Good for you for voting for the moderate,  establishment candidate.  I like it.

They are both progressive candidates. One actually has a track record of pushing progressive policies and pushing back against Mother Pelosi; the other has an assumed birthright.

And yes, an endorsement by Nancy Pelosi is all I need to not vote for a candidate who I assume will just fall in line with the establishment.

How does a Democratic Senator have a track record of pushing back against a Democratic Speaker?

Pelosi is the only thing standing between Trump and total political destruction.  Whatever you may think of 'mother', she has kicked Trump's ass politically six ways to Sunday since 2018.  She is one of the most powerful modern speakers.  If Biden wins and we retain the House, her legacy is locked up.

Edit - it just occurred to me that you were speaking of his time as a representative, not his senate career.  Perhaps that's why she endorsed Kennedy.  Now I'm going to find myself rooting for Kennedy, even though I didn't have a horse before.
