The coronavirus

The "two weeks to flatten the curve" failure that ignoramuses keep crying over never fucking happened. The US never collectively participated in such a thing. Yes, we were advised to, but it didn't happen.
Sure, I've been advised to do things and ignored that advice to my own detriment. What I've never done is blamed the advice given that I failed to take, especially when there's widespread evidence of folks following that advice to great success. That's some pretzel logic, right there.

It is still a gamble in some respects, Rob, even though in some respects it has worked out positively so far. The data is preliminary and hasn’t been peer reviewed or replicated, and there is some contradictory data from other jurisdictions showing lower than expected protection with the delay in second dose. It’s such a fluid situation that what seems the right thing today could be disastrous over time. But in any event we’re doing it, so fingers crossed.lastexitlondon said:
Its not a gamble based on our data. Its a lifesaver and I'm glad we took that chance to find out.oftenreading said:Our provincial health officer has decided to delay all second doses of the vaccines to 16 weeks, from the prior schedule of 6 weeks. This is based on new data coming out that suggests a high level of protection starting a few weeks after the first dose and lasting for at least a few months. The new roll out plan means that more people get their first dose more quickly; in fact, the current projections are that every adult who wants to be vaccinated will have their first dose by end of July, which is amazing.
I have some ambivalence about this, because the data on this is preliminary and it's potentially quite a gamble to make this big a change without the backing of the approval data. I sure hope the province is planning to robustly gather data, so that this can be a useful study for other jurisdictions. On the other hand, it seems to provide the most benefit to the greatest number of people, which I'm in favour of.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -

Is everyone prepared to live in their bubble as long as the data keeps changing? It’s a virus it will forever change. How long are you willing to stay home? It’s been 1 year.......2, 5, 10 years.....serious questions.oftenreading said:

This isn't attacking anyone, everyone is free to do whatever they wish with their own lives and I respect it
But this is what I gather just from speaking with all of my different social and work circles
There are about 25% of those who have been out of the bubble since April of 2020 and are already mentally back to a maskless, normal society
Theres another 65% (which I fall into) that feel like once vaccinated, they've done all they can for themselves (the older folks) and the younger folks have done what they can mainly to help the older folks, and will be willing to go back to normal once vaccines are readily available. Just an example, My own grandparents who wouldn't let anyone come visit them (rightfully so) were fortunately able to get fully vaccinated. They now say "we got the vaccine, you guys got the vaccine, if were are going to get this virus then we are just going to get it at this point" and now want us to come and visit them again. I really feel that most people feel this way.
And then I think there will be about 10% of those who will continue to stay home, get groceries online, not go out to eat, etc until this thing is either gone (which it will never be completely gone) or the number of cases is incredibly low, even after a vaccine is readily and easily available to everyone in their country.
Just the vibes I get as someone who connects and speaks to people of all ages regarding the virus pretty frequently

Just the vibes I get as someone who connects and speaks to people of all ages regarding the virus pretty frequentlyThe 25% is much higher, I feel, although I think your breakdowns look good. Also, I do not like the 25%+ group. They made (and continue to make) it worse for the rest of us.Thanks! The love he receives is the love that is saved0 -
Well, things are going to going especially partisan again as we see "red" states lift mandates and "blue" states maintain masks and limit gatherings. Texas is all in.
