Went to the Knicks game the other night.

Went to bathroom in PENN station.

    Went to wash hands.

    No soap anywhere.

    No hot water.

Went into MSG and quickly found a bathroom and washed my hands.

How does one of the most heavily trafficked areas in the city have no damn soap or warm water?

He's still making trouble almost 4 years after office, huh?
  • read yesterday that autopsies on those that have died from it show the virus is a combo of SARS and AIDS, in that it attacks the respiratory system and the immune system, and even those that recover will/may face life lasting effects.

    https://metro.co.uk/2020/03/06/coronavirus-like-combination-sars-aids-doctors-say-12359066/
I would say that’s pretty misleading. They are basing those conclusions on a very small sample of those who died, who by definition had a more severe form of disease. There are many thousands of people who have recovered already so any study on whether there is long-standing lung damage needs to occur with them.
the guy who made this statement/comparison is the director of the intensive care unit after speaking with the forensic specialist.

yes, the article does mention that most people infected now have a milder form of the virus. But there is still so much to learn, I wouldn't call it "misleading". he is stating a fact of the autopsies they have performed.

the headline is a tad alarmist, yes, but the article itself explains everything quite clearly.
The fact that you have been mislead suggests the article is misleading. No, the virus is not a combination of SARS and AIDS biologically, to start with.

Bleach in my area?  Sold out.

    Dust masks?  Gone.

My employees asked for dust masks the other day because we ran out.  Went online only to find out that every outlet has them SOLD OUT...

People.  Stop buying the friggin dust masks.  Workers need them to stay safe.
Right on.  The masks do little or nothing to keep someone from getting the virus and are need by health care workers.  People buying up the masks are shooting themselves in the foot.

I need the damn things for my construction crew.

You mentioned dust masks.  If it's just dust, can they use bandanas or other cloth?  The greatest need for surgical masks right now is for health care workers, is it not?

    correct, they're 2 different masks

needs N95 filter, which typical dust mask won't have

We use the N95 because it stops most solid particles like concrete dust.  This is why we use them.

The rest of the world can use their bandannas.

Again, let the people that actually need them to get them.

Not to be a dick, but you probably should have seen this coming and grabbed masks at least a month ago. The writing was on the wall.

I did not see this coming a month ago.  No one did.  Never saw this before for any outbreak.  People are just freaking out about this one.

For the most part my guys use HEPA vacs and Hilti self contained drills but hey aren't 100%(even though Hilti says they are) so I like for them to use an N95 mask.  The fitted masks are overkill for our application.

We have the masks but they weren't on site, I went to purchase some locally for the time being and they were gone.

I'm assuming many places are out of rubbing alcohol.  If not, 2/3 rubbing alcohol mixed with 1/3 aloe vera gel makes a good substitute for hand sanitizer.

I hope some companies out there are ramping up production of essentials like soap and hand sanitizers.  Cosmetics companies could chill with non-essential production, ramp up on the essentials, and make as much more money in the long run.

The coming months will say a lot  about how smart and sensible people are about prioritizing and doing what is needed. This virus will probably prove to deal out some harsh lessons.  Maybe it will be good for us in the long run.

And I don't say any of this flippantly.  I'm older/ going on old and already have a compromised immune system.  If I get this virus, I'm very worried that it will take me out.

I have a paint store. We ran out of n95 8210 and 8511 mid January. Venders have zero clue when they will receive more. Chinese people were storming stores in my neighborhood and buying them out, then shipping them to China. Not a day goes by without 20 people asking for masks. Most now are workers sanding or demo jobs who can’t do their jobs safely. It’s insane. Even with this, I’d never thought it would come to not being able to buy hand soap. HAND SOAP!! Lol.

Went to Costco last night just for pizza. Saw half the cleaning shelves just empty. No TP, paper towels, Lysol, etc.
I still don’t understand why this virus makes people want to stock up on toilet paper? Do they think they’ll stop making it or something?

I think the stocking up of toilet paper (which I've stocked up on as well) is due to the fact that if there is an outbreak in your community, the last place you'll want to go is to a grocery store or a dollar store where everyone else will be going. Plus, toilet paper never expires, so if you need a lot for a pandemic, you're good, if you don't, well then you don't have to buy toilet paper for a few months. Win/win.

Not to be a dick, but you probably should have seen this coming and grabbed masks at least a month ago. The writing was on the wall.

So if your guys don't have the proper PPE what are you going to do now? Asking out of real curiosity, I'm a tradesman myself.

You being in the business then I'm sure you know that the men tell you what they need when they run out and not pre plan it...
I think a lot of people saw it coming, but I get your point. Hope your guys stay safe.

There have been reports here on people stocking up canned foods, headache pills and stuff.

But other than the pasta section being pretty empty, soap, headache pills and toilet paper was still in stock.

I've talked with two different people this week....one is a lab technician and another a surgeon.

Both say that this virus is nothing to be real concerned about.  The surgeon told me that there are likely hundreds of people that have had the virus and just considered it an upper respiratory cold.

Interesting perspectives.  They are either correct or insane.

I believe them based only on the fact that it makes me feel better.

Went to Costco last night just for pizza. Saw half the cleaning shelves just empty. No TP, paper towels, Lysol, etc.
I still don’t understand why this virus makes people want to stock up on toilet paper? Do they think they’ll stop making it or something?
You do know that if people get sick they can’t go to work. And you can’t get raw materials. And then if they can’t get masks they can’t work safely. There is a risk to good not being available.  It’s weird to panic and hoard but the reality is manufacturing will slow or stop in some cases. I can tell you of a few products that won’t be on the shelf if this keeps going as it is due to raw material availability. A global economy and business is good until a global crisis.

I’m no doctor, but I’ve read and listen to them. I do think that for the normal population this isn’t a huge deal other than the fear of the unknown. But for the at risk population it’s an enormously big deal

    - It spreads easily
    - There is no vaccine for it
    - The mortality so far has been 3,4 %

Maybe you shouldn't worry. But at the same time I'm happy countries are acting on it to not have it spread like wildfire.
