Another thing to mention regarding the ticket lottery is that if you strike out, you'll have an opportunity in the general sale and potentially another ticket drop after that. For Fenway '18 TM dropped a ton of late tickets with much better seating than many of the 10C tickets already purchased. Then people were grabbing the seat upgrade via TM and abandoning their "worse" 10C seating. There will be opportunities for tickets. Not sure why there's so much hand-wringing already.
Again I think those stadium shows were much different in terms of how many fan club tickets were available. I wouldn't count on any pre-show drops happening for NYC or any other high-demand show.
Nah, they always drop. Even for MSG, although those are more cutthroat than most. IIRC last time around people were lining up at the box office first thing in the morning in order to catch a mid afternoon ticket drop.
Correct. Just happened each day of Phish's four-night New Years run

I am same age as Ed (actually few months older) and I can do GA without complaining. I choose GA and I have plenty of things that hurt
Then feel lucky Father Time hasn't raged you yet to that extreme. A discussion is not a complaint. It's an attempt to understand options that might be forthcoming. This is a unique band but it also has a unique set of complex rules. And pain is not a light topic. I was replying to a fan that stated standing 4 hours is no longer an option due to pain

Sadly, at the last Toronto shows (many of) the people in the drop-lines were known scalpers. As soon as they got the tickets they went right outside and worked to sell them. I would like to see these day-off box office drops be held at Will-Call until almost show time. (But then earlier in the day but give little-to-no time for scalping.)

did we ever figure out this clue?

Getting the timing right for box office drops is tough. The lines for MSG box office were insane. But you can definitely get lucky. Many times they are great seats released by the promoter or TM that went unclaimed or did not sell via the dynamic pricing. I cant wait to hear the complaints when people experience the dynamic pricing for MSG.
To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. If you are one of those unhappy people...please call 1-900-IDN-TCAR."

So I will only try for Baltimore. My days are over standing at concerts. My knees just don't hold up.
Some (not all) of the standing tickets can be in a low number draw for the first members and some of the good seats could be opened to the others. Make it the exact same number of total tickets as now with the GA so the low numbers get the same odds as they do now.
If they take some seats, similar to the the lottery rows...if this group of seats were placed into a separate random draw that might be the fairest way.
How it is now it's all or nothing. Pick standing and you might destroy a kidney taking 10 advil or go into the seat draw, risk getting obstructed view with no advance notice but you may get rewarded with a lotto seat if the stars are aligned for you. Or build a time machine and buy a good number.
To assume fans the same age as they are can stand still for 4 hours...unless they provide stools or canes in the GA pit.
Does anything about a tour actually bring you joy?
It appears that complaining brings him joy.
and having hassle free shows in NYC with perfect seats every time
Any guesses on what the ticket prices will be for the upcoming dates? Im trying to figure out how much I need to budget for the Canadian shows. 2016 shows were $157.00 / pair (USD) in Toronto from 10 club and $112 CAD each from ticketmaster.

Just +20$ per ticket then...not going to be astronomically different.

I'm budgeting $150 Canadian per ticket. hope that helps

As for. Lotto.. U don't put shit or think anything before u see the announcement and the odds Talk about Put GA or reserve makes no sense from The moment u don't know the dates and what shows u can do, what's the details of the lotto. (how many shows u can enter, or if u can enter for both shows when is x 2 at a venue etc) Afrer all this u see what u want and what the best way to score based on logic and odds. All previous talk has no logic. 2018 Amsterdam had low GA and this year had 99%.. U never know what's the best option till u see it
Sure there hasn't been a formal announcement but over the past few weeks we have got enough hints (thank you) to start planning. People are reserving hotels based on the guesses. I don't see any problem starting to plan for the lottery based on historical precedent.
Overall I think that there are some aspects of the lottery that I'd be shocked if they were changed. You should be able to enter for as many shows as you want. If there are multiple shows at a venue you'll be limited to only one pair. The draw will be GA first then Reserved. Most GA entries other than #1 will have a very low chance for wins.
Reading through the posts there are a lot of people who don't understand the process and are looking for help. I think that providing information is good for the community. Yes, we don't know the odds and won't for a while. But if planning an itinerary and hotels isn't a problem then preparing for the lottery draw isn't either.
Ultimately the best advice is what everyone has been writing. Figure out what show you really want to see and make it your #1 entry. Respect the odds tool but don't fear the odds.

So, spoke to an local ticket broker here this morning (looking into some Celtics tix) I casually asked if he knew anything about PJ. Without hesitation he said "Fenway again for 2 shows". I asked when and he said he didn't know for sure, but later in the summer after Europe. He seemed pretty certain.
