Polls open six am and close at 8 or 9 and we have absentee ballots.  No need to switch Election Day. Find five minutes and vote.

So glad we vote by mail here.  So much easier that way!

Sounds like your social circle doesn't include anyone in manufacturing lol
You've never heard of 6-12's?  You get up for work at 5:30 and you leave at 6:15 and you work from 7-7 and you get home at 7:30-7:45 and you do that 6 times a week and your kids are forgetting that you are a whole person capable of enjoying life...and then someone suggests that you should stop at the polls on your way home and wait 2+ hours to vote, so you don't see your family at all for the day, and if you don't they have a flippant attitude like it's your own fault you are too apathetic to vote.
Seriously though, I don't want to make a huge deal out of this but this is a classic American attitude.  You don't know anyone who has trouble voting so you can't imagine how anyone would, and you resist change...out of spite?

It's not 5 minutes on general election day.  It took me over an hour because of the lines.  It should be weekends or a national holiday.
I ve never waited more than two or three minutes.
That's one experience.  Im sure you've seen voting lines on tv before right? I can tell you that big turnouts equal big lines for me.

A democratic government should create as few hurdles as possible to participating.
Yeah I stand corrected, voting should be on the weekend.
Changing voting day to a weekend favors the middle and the ruling class -- people with white-collar, "9-5" desk jobs. It does not help shift workers, service workers, etc.  For many in the underclass, finding time to vote on a Saturday is way more of a challenge than a Tuesday because many of their jobs require weekend availability.

Election Day should be a paid National Holiday.  Period.  No exceptions.
Double-time for those who work it and maximum 8 hour shift.  This is the greatest country in the world?  Prove it.  Put democracy first, and greed second.

I say all that, but honestly, if a bill came forward that set a maximum voting age and set minimum IQ thresholds...I would absolutely vote yes lol

Gear down big shifter, I admitted I was wrong three posts past my original statement.
However if you know you can’t vote on a certain day because of work what is the excuse to not get an absentee ballot?

It shouldn’t take that long to vote. If we weren’t a “I want it now” culture...multiple day voting would help. I would agree re:weekend. But look how weird people got about not getting iowa results instantaneously
Sweden has it on the third sunday of September. Results come the same night. I get that the US is bigger. But the whole machine is also therefore bigger. Never heard any critique here about there being a problem with people not being able to vote etc.

(Obviously we also have pre-voting (by mail or visiting a voting place) for a month or whatever before, but many people want to dress up and go on election day. I would guess it's the same in the US)

So yes, just put it on a weekend.

Or at least make it a federal holiday

Unfortunately making it easier to vote is not exactly the GOP playbook

I always waved off people who were militantly against early voting, but man oh man. People can't be thrilled if they voted for Steyer or Buttigieg last week.

Biden rally in VA tonight and you can hear the energy. Unlike those endless onsite news reports from Iowa for 9 months with crickets in the background.

One single day later, with Pete and Tom out, and Biden with a huge win, this feels like an entirely different year.

Surprising.  He was so into it, I didn't expect him to drop out before Klobuchar.

He probably had the best campaign out of all the people that never had a chance. He raised his national profile immensely. Young too. He’s going to be around for a long time.

this is why process is so flawed. so Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina get to widdle out the candidates i was interested in for the Democratic nominee. now i get to choose between a bunch of old geezers and a woman (Klobachar who has no shot anyway) that i don't really have a full interest in.  wonderful.  fuck the Dems are going to blow this again.

Yeah, agreed both.  That, and the fact that only REALLY wealthy people ever have a shot at it.

Clinton wasn’t “really wealthy” nor was Obama. Biden isn’t either and nor is Bernie. Unless you’re comparing them to what income level exactly?

Well, Biden hasn’t been wealthy for the majority of his life.

I really like Pete and hope he wins it all one day. But he was not winning this year and underperformed in the last two states.

He stood up and did what is right for his party. We are staring at an outsider in the process of stealing the nomination simply because there are many more moderate candidates splitting the vote.

I’m in NY and the candidates spend five seconds here and we are bigger than the first four combined by an enormous amount. So yeah. The process stinks.

But this is about defeating trump, getting a bully out of the White House and saving Obamacare. And preventing the damage a 7-2 Court can do.

Pete did the right thing IMO. It was the logical thing to do to wait until a large black cohort could show him whether they were going to warm up to him even potentially. They didn’t. Klobuchar will have to confront that same reality soon based on her numbers.

lol, yeah that is pretty divisive. Not sure why Chuck needed to fire him over that though. Why not just accept that Flav doesn't want to be apart of the Sanders endorsement, take Public Enemy's name off the bill, and just perform as "Chuck D"?
