This is absolutely something Pearl Jam would play at this point in their careers.  They altered an entire tour plan in 2016 to play Bonnaroo.

I would be willing to bet that this happens, and I’ll be going for tickets when it does

Totally. Not to mention the heat and the dirt, and having to sit on the ground, if you can sit at all. I hate festivals so much. Even when I was young I didn't enjoy them. Especially with the porta-potties. Too gross.

yeah i think my festival days are over. My last one was made in america 2013 which wasn't too bad actually and it was close to me. This one would be somewhere in NY. Not sure exactly where in NY woodstock is though.  My sister lives in upstate NY near Rochester.

I don’t go to many festivals but if I do I will go with the attitude that I will walk around all day and catch bands and eat good food, and will know that i will watch PJ from 50 yards away on the jumbo tron.  Stand in one spot all day to get rail?  That would be a terrible experience.

I hope they have atleast fifteen posters for this event.
    Ahahahahaha....
  • I don't enjoy these huge outdoor festivals, especially in the heat of the summer. I sure hope they do an arena tour next!

  • I think it's a real possibility. The organizers of Woodstock are looking for the best-of-the-best over the last 50 years. Historically they are a perfect fit for what they are trying to present at the 3 day festival. Woodstock is more of a musical retrospective, not just an annual festival where you fill in the blanks from year to year. We shall see.

The I Am the Highway event this month will have better bands than Woodstock 50 (Foos Fighters, Metallica, Soundgarden members, Audioslave members, Temple of the Dog, Ryan Adams) but not playing all original material.

Webcast or bust. Even if it is their only show on the East Coast, there is no way I would go to this.

For anyone saying woodstock is "unsafe": (i posted this in the rumor thread, but it belongs here now)

I'm so sick of this mentality.

Some people act like festival production in the 90's was Bret Hart status. The best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be.

    Wrong.

Music festivals as we know them today were just starting to take off in the late 80's, early 90's. Everything since then has become more organized and controlled.

We shouldn't act like this band DOSEN'T go to South American every 3 years and play to THOUSANDS of people at Lolla's and other festivals and play for wayyyyyy crazier fans than the states.

All of those things that people say left a "bad" taste in our mouths after 1999 were all products of all of those peoples environment. Don't try to act like the late 90's/early 2000's meat head upper east coast jock culture wasn't like that at ALL because the fact of the matter is it was. And if you get 300,000 people together and mix in alcohol and drugs, companies and businesses price gouging fans (as you said) at a time when most younger kids had absolutely no money and you will get what you inevitably got at that festival.

When I see "Woodstock: 50" I don't see rape. I don't see violence. I objectively see a festival that has the potential to be the fucking concert of the DECADE.

All I know is, since 1999, we've had a major shift in the industry in regards to touring and live shows. Every state basically has a mini Woodstock of their own now.

I think we should let this notion of "Woodstock 99" destroying the Woodstock image die. It's like getting divorced in a bad marriage and never getting with someone else as you continue to shit talk your ex. Move on. You can only go up from the point you are at.

As for people who disagree with this being a festival and PJ playing it,

    Why????????

Whats the alternative? Potentially either getting REALLLLY close with 10C tickets at an arena? Or potentially getting the second to last seat at an arena?? Who knows, if we got tickets NOW we probably wouldn't even find out where we are sitting until July..... (*cough, cough* last year)

People see festivals now and automatically dismiss it. At festivals you can literally PICK where you want to be in the audience. You can bring your *drug* of choice inside without having to worry about stadium or arena security. You have even more potential to meet people who have the same music values as you do etc, etc.

$300 for a festival ticket with a weekend LINEUP (which we can only hope will be the lineup of the decade)

    or

    $300 for 2 10C tickets to 1 PJ show....

    It's your money though..

I agree with festivals being safe.

I went to ACL 2014 and Govenors ball in 17 and both are run great!

One had 150,000 people and the other had 60,000 and no problems.

Not going to lie, but I would pay $100 a ticket to see a 3 hour PJ show in an arena  vs. $300 (likely much more) to see them play maybe a 2 hour set after standing all day in a field in 95 degree heat with 100% humidity in the middle of August every single time.

Its like people forget this is a multi-million dollar industry these days.

I've been going to Voodoo Fest every year since 2011 and just seeing the progress that festival has made in that time is astonishing.

I totally think we can pull off another Woodstock in the states and have as many problems as Coachella or Lollapalooza have each year (which are little to none in the grand scheme of things)
  • They haven’t even announced anything and people are complaining about it.  Just be happy they may play anywhere.  We complain when they play but not where we want, we complain when they don’t play, we complain about festivals, we complain about ballparks, what a mess we are.  No wonder they gave up on the single, we should all try to be a little more positive in 2019.
