    oh for sure. they pay to be the first replies and they always have the worst hot takes. twitter is just brutal. i actually removed the app from my phone so now i basically click on tweets here and then look around twitter from there. i hate that fucking site and i hate that we here on the train are now basically twitter lite.

    I got booted for good from Twitter for calling Lauren Boebert "white trash" (this was pre Musk) and I thought about getting my account back, but Twitter's so messed up and even more hateful than it used to be so I think I'll stay away.  I have a rarely used Instagram account so I signed up for Threads today (super easy) and it's been fun so far.  So we'll see...

    Twitter is still the best for news. You just have to be careful of the source.

    I don't equate posting a tweet of a news article to the fact that twitter might be a dumpster fire now. It's still news.

    I never joined Twitter but lurked on it,  following 6-8 accounts (including George Conway, above, who is a top-notch shitposter as well as an astute lawyer). It was (past tense?) a solid source of breaking news and subject matter expertise, if you knew who to follow.

    I (and my husband and son) all got locked out the other day; surprisingly or unsurprisingly, we all chose to walk away from Twitter instead of creating accounts. Now we all find ourselves with more time and less agitation; after 30 hours or so of withdrawal, life feels better.

    I'm only on Instagram now (and Substack, does that count?); I've held off on Threads -- just remembering how my life improved when I left Facebook in 2016 was enough to make me pause and take a "wait and see" stance.

    Anyway, since this is a Musk thread: Elon Musk is a tool, a right-wing troll, and a spoiled man-child, and I view anyone who proclaims Musk a genius the same way I view people who are paying $8 for a blue checkmark. He's an eight-year-old who has read way too much sci-fi (flamethrowers! travel by pneumatic tubes! space travel! moving to Mars!) with an infinite line of credit.
