Like what Martina Navritola said, "wow, didn't know anyone looked forward to funerals".  What an idiot.  Thankfully he isn't delivering a eulogy.

What are you confused about? This is a photo of Bush Sr's service dog mourning him. This is definitely the saddest thing I've seen from all this. *sniff* (I'm completely indifferent otherwise TBH).

Yes, they voted Democrat.  GWB also did not vote Trump, he did not reveal who he voted for...

I kind of hate to burst the bubble, but apparently Sully was with Bush for less than six months. He was a trained service dog who assisted with tasks like opening the door and fetching objects. This is a great photo into which people read far more than is there.

You are not bursting my bubble.  I know the dog is doing what he is trained to do.  I own a lab myself.  It did not take 6 months for my lab to be very attached to me.  They are extremely smart and affectionate dogs.    President Bush was a pretty good president...extremely qualified.  Sorry, he wasn't a Democrat.  Believe it or not, there was a time when US presidents could work with either party...and get shit done.

Not sure that party of the owner has anything to do with the dog's behaviour.

    Ha!

Too busy to read that article right now but I’ll look at it later.

I hate how how we romanticize and anthropomorphize animal behaviour. Dogs are social, pack animals, so of course they form bonds within the pack. Those bonds do not mean to them what they mean to us.

I'm much more a cat person than a dog person.  Dogs don't cover their shit and they bark too much.  However, when my wife and I first got together, she had a bench lab (an English variety of yellow lab) named Ariana (Ari, for short) and I fell in love with that dog and when she got old and we had to put her down, I cried a flood of tears.

I doubt the dog has any clue who is even in that casket, or even knows there's a person in there at all.

Looking forward to being with the wonderful Bush family at Blair House today. The former First Lady will be coming over to the White House this morning to be given a tour of the Christmas decorations by Melania. The elegance & precision of the last two days have been remarkable!

    It's a funeral, not a house tour.

How does this burst a bubble? I'm sure this dog understood that his charge was dead and is sad about it (no, I'm not anthropomorphizing. Dogs do indeed become attached to their owners and miss them - we all know that). 6 months is long enough for a dog and person to become attached IMO. I'm not reading any more into it than what it is: sad.

Does he mean Hillary? Maybe she's coming over for some "executive" time?

How about the somber mood of the nation? Elegance and precision? Its all pomp and circumstance for him, isn't it? Remember North Korea?

maybe not you, but tonnes of people are looking at this picture and seeing it as the dog in mourning over his master's casket, which, honestly, is ludicrous. obviously the dog CAN mourn if they see their master dead, but not a chance this dog understands who/what is behind him.

I disagree. I think the dog probably does know who is in that box and that he's dead. Dogs totally know when someone or something is dead, and he would definitely be able to smell who it is in the casket. I'm not saying that the dog is lying there crying inside over it of course. Mostly the photo is symbolic and that is what I think stirs some people's emotions ... I don't understand why anyone felt the need to kind of shit on that, but okay, lol.

  • Hachikō was born on November 10, 1923 at a farm near the city of ŌdateAkita Prefecture.[3] In 1924, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor at the Tokyo Imperial University, brought him to live in Shibuya, Tokyo as his pet. Hachikō would meet Ueno at Shibuya Station every day after his commute home. This continued until May 21, 1925, when Ueno died of a cerebral hemorrhage while at work. Of course dogs miss their dead masters. I don't understand how anyone could think otherwise. It's clear as day.
