Even though he didn't coin the phrase, I kinda think of Mitch McConnell as the Father of Owning Libs and stopping Obama from nominating a Supreme Court Justice was the moment when everything changed. It was like the release of "nevermind" but with bad impacts.
Further, I believe a third of the country would be willing to go full dictatorship just to spite another third of the country (with no regard for the middle third).
So what's this say about the degree to which this is about Trump? While they tell us "fuck your feelings" they actually kinda seem to care about Trump's. A sad Trump seems to lead to an angry supporter. I'd argue it's about Trump to an extent because someone like Mitt Romney would be trying to compromise (or at least talking that way) and would come across more reasonably. Trump makes 'em feel like it's their world (it is really); like they don't have to listen to, or respect, anyone they don't like. His sense of victimhood enables them to feel like victims (to political correctness, SOB football players, socialism, or whatever other boogeyman / scapegoat Trump's whining about.)

I read something about how easily people will admit embarrassment, but how hard it is to admit shame. The difference is that with shame, you as an individual are a cause, but with embarrassment, you are a victim.
