I never claimed, "people were abandoning Trump." Show me where I said that. I've claimed that Trump has his base of supporters, 25%-37% but not much beyond that. Trump is not running in 2018. But his policies and lack of successes will be on full display. And Repubs will have to run from it because they're not tenable. Coal jobs are not coming back. Exxon doesn't want the US to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. Mexico is not going to pay for the wall. The election is a year and half away. Keep clinging to your poll. Every passing day shows what an idiot he is and people are not going to stick by him or his policies, except that 25-37%. Big tax plan to be issued on Wednesday will be yet another example of his desperate attempt at a "win."BS44325 said:

However, even the major players in ththe coal industry don't expect the jobs to come back, because they acknowledge that they were lost to other forces than just climate change regulations.

Let's look at what the BLS really says: https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t17.htm
Of the 11,000 mining jobs that were added, 100 (one hundred) of them were "Coal Mining" jobs.
Almost all the new 11,000 jobs were oil and gas extraction; and support activities for mining.
What are support activities for mining? Well I'm glad you asked:
Derrick operators, oil and gas
First-line supervisors/managers of construction trades and extraction workers
Rotary drill operators, oil and gas
Roustabouts, oil and gas
Service unit operators, oil, gas, and mining
So to recap, coal miners jobs are still being replaced by automation. Coal is still being replaced by natural gas. US solar power still employs more people than oil, coal and gas combined.0 -

great op ed in Washington Post by Eugene Robinson
"In the annals of pathetic climb-downs, this Sunday-morning tweet from President Trump deserves a special place of honor, or perhaps dishonor:
“Eventually, but at a later date so we can get started early, Mexico will be paying, in some form, for the badly needed border wall.”
To put those weasel words in context, let me ask a question of all you small-business owners out there. If a customer brings some merchandise to the cash register and promises that one of his neighbors will pay you for it “eventually . . . at a later date . . . in some form,” what are your odds of ever seeing that money? How likely is it that “in some form” means cash? Do you let him walk out with the goods, or do you remind him you weren’t born yesterday?"
and
"Trump also promised a Muslim immigration ban, which the courts haven’t let him deliver. He said NATO was obsolete but now says it’s not. He promised health insurance “for everybody” but supports a bid by House Republicans to snatch it away from 24 million people. He promised to “drain the swamp” but refuses to address his own and his Cabinet members’ many conflicts of interest.
He lied to us, repeatedly and shamelessly. His supporters may not care — yet — but history is unforgiving. Yelling “fake news” cannot mask a fake presidency."

He's such a doucher and has no idea how to play politics. He tries to blackmail Democrats by saying he won't fund some Obamacare insurance rebates if they don't fund the border in the budget. And then when he realizes he overplays his hand, has to back off again. The gov't would have shut down on his 100th day.. That would be even more embarrassing. Coal jobs have started to come back...Halifax2TheMax said:
Ha. Coming from the guy who insists daily that all the numbers show that people are abandoning Trump. That he is untenable. This poll is a snapshot and there is no evidence that the "organizing, reenergizing and reengaging" is having any effect. DNC chair Perez is getting booed daily while Bernie refuses to even call himself a democrat.Halifax2TheMax said:
Polls a year and a half away from an election in which the candidate you trumpet isn't running are completely meaningless. The left is actively organizing, reenergizing and reengaging. Trump has plenty of time to self destruct, show his cluelessness and be impeached. All of which will be untenable policy positions for repubs in congress. But keep holding on to your poll.BS44325 said:The same poll that says Trump is so popular also says that in a rematch he would win the popular vote
That is the bottom line number that people concerned about congressional races are interested in.

This quote is irksome, though:
"Today's ruling confirms that Canadian lumber mills are subsidized by their government and benefit from lumber pricing policies," Cameron Krauss, legal chair for the U.S. Lumber Coalition, said in a statement.
It's not a ruling. It's a decision made purely for political reasons, and it doesn't confirm anything except that the Trump administration is petty, which we already knew.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0
