this is the face of the Democratic Party
That’s your contribution - taking a doctored photo and making assumptions about someone’s competence based on appearance? Nice.

People aren't overreacting at all, we are reacting to what's clearly  horrible idea. Arming teachers is a terrible idea on so many levels, yet is finding it's way into mainstream conversations somehow
Yet the only arguments against arming teachers seem to involve straw man fallacies and exaggerations.  Why is arming teachers a bad idea (without any straw man or exaggerations)?
    VOLUNTEERS!
??  That’s right, the armed teachers are volunteers.  I have yet to see anyone say “ we need to require all teachers to arm themselves”
That doesn't make them effective at what they are signing up for.  My concern isn't whether they are willing to do it, it's whether they are putting more children in danger because a second weapon has now entered the fray.  Competency is pretty goddam important in this equation, not willingness.

Hey, I would want to take every measure to prevent accidents as well. Training/education leads to competency/safety.

All of the requirements are up to the local governing commission regarding the selection, approval and determination of fitness, along with having a CC permit and having gone through the training as defined by statute. "Yup, he's my cousin Merle but I can vouch for him. He's a straight shooter., no pun, and my other cousin Daryl, he gives psychological exams on the side. See, now, Merle has a job. 89's not too old and what are the chances. He just needs to get out of the house and out of Martha's hair, you know."

Yeah, I don't see how this doesn't come back to Trump. I find it very hard to believe that he doesn't have dirt on him given his ties to all these shady figures. Mueller is coming down hard on Manafort, probably to flip him for bigger fish, because remember, the investigation isn't over.

And where does it stop?  Do counselors get to be armed too?  The janitor?  Cafeteria workers?

Its a a horrible idea. Period. More guns is not the answer.
No worries, Trumpty Dumpty proposes giving the teachers a bonus.

(CNN)President Donald Trump spent Thursday grappling with how to prevent more school massacres and address the gun debate gripping the country, offering solutions such as giving bonuses to teachers who undergo gun training.

"These people are cowards. They're not going to walk into a school if 20% of the teachers have guns -- it may be 10% or may be 40%. And what I'd recommend doing is the people that do carry, we give them a bonus. We give them a little bit of a bonus," Trump said. "They'll frankly feel more comfortable having the gun anyway. But you give them a little bit of a bonus."
I’m cool with it and will be looking for schools with some degree of armed staff once my child reaches school age.
TX has been doing it a while...
    http://news4sanantonio.com/news/local/tasb-110-school-districts-allow-teachers-to-carry-guns

"If someone is approved to carry, they go through a psychological assessment very similar to a school marshal program that's allowed here in Texas,” Dockery said. “They also have to have a CHL and they would also go through training with law enforcement in our area."
Or...we could just do the rational thing and ban AR and similar type weapons and not need to arm people whose primary skill is teaching, not tactical special ops.
Then do it...what’s stopping you?  Oh yeah, politicians...I, for one, am glad these TX schools are doing things NOW instead of hoping a law will change.  Anyways, whole other thread about this.
I'm no King, but thanks for that snarky, useless statement.  And yes, politicians... politicians in the pocket of the NRA.  Congressman that value their jobs more than the lives of others.  Congressman that would rather someone lose a life rather than them losing their seat.
    Therefore?
Therefore ban the fucking weapons.  Is my position unclear to you?
Thanks for the snarky remark, but you did just point out that it is not quite as easy as “just ban them” due to politicians being in the pockets of the the NRA.
I cannot ban them, you cannot ban them...politicians can’t seem to ban them...
    therefore?
Therefore the voters need to make the change because the cowards are owned by the NRA.  When the cowards fear the voters more than the NRA, change will happen.  I hope that's what we are seeing right now.
We lost to Trump, we are on the ropes.  Until November there's no reason to think we have a chance at getting anything done.

no I am a Bernie supporter, and I don't support people who are corrupt or evil, and I voted for Jill Stein, blind loyalty, not judging things based solely on which Party they are affiliated with, and if you can't acknowledge based upon recent interviews that Nancy Pelosi has completely lost it, then that makes you completely partisan and unable to engage in critical thinking, cause even Ray Charles can see Nancy has lost it, here's CNN so definitely not Conservative

Yeah, who's your face?  A serial adulterer?  A serial groper?  A serial liar?  Congratulations, you must be proud.  The Roy Moore thing must have really been dynamite.
no I am a Bernie supporter, and I don't support people who are corrupt or evil, and I voted for Jill Stein, blind loyalty, not judging things based solely on which Party they are affiliated with, and if you can't acknowledge based upon recent interviews that Nancy Pelosi has completely lost it, then that makes you completely partisan and unable to engage in critical thinking, cause even Ray Charles can see Nancy has lost it, here's CNN so definitely not Conservative

I could give a shit about the minority leader.  Inconsequential and a scare tactic used by the right.

Not me.  His ideas are far too left for my blood.  I'm a centrist.  I would have voted for Romney or McCain before Sanders.

Your country still thinks Obama is a “radical leftist”. There was no way that Bernie was going to become POTUS.

And people who voted for Stein in states that matter are just as responsible for Trump as Trump voters.  No amount of moral preening is going to stop people from being deported or grant citizenship to the Dreamers or put us back in the Paris deal or TPP.

Bernie always beat trump by a large margin in the polls. In the election, turnout would’ve been higher, he would’ve swung more undecideds, and got Stein votes and some of Johnsons.

It's unprovable.  The propaganda machine on the right never laid a finger on him.  They did not want to damage Sanders at all.  Had he won the nomination, it would have changed in an instant, starting with all the time he spent in the Soviet Union and Cuba.

Yes, unfortunately. He was never the target of the right. Had that happened, the smear would have been incredible. After all, somehow people still believe that the Rs are the “party of fiscal responsibility” despite all evidence to the contrary.

TPP was an awful idea, even a Hillary Clinton supporter thought so, in 2 minutes Robert Reich rips it apart

TPP was not an awful idea.  Free trade has raised the overall standard of living around the world by leaps and bounds over the past 50 years.  Did it work for everyone? No, of course not.  No policy does.  Bu

What we did was create a void for China to take the leadership role in the new trade pact that are finalizing.  They were iced out of TPP.

The failure of NAFTA was failing to prepare the blue collar workforce for the next generation of jobs.  The technology revolution is exactly the same as the industrial revolution.
