I can honestly say that if he invited me to the WH I'd tell him to go fuck himself. it's only a honour if the host is honourable.
I would go, but it would be to make a point or a stand for everything he isn't or doesn't support in this country. If it means a chance to make a platform and stand against the bullshit he is spewing, then I sure as hell will be there to do everything I can to draw attention to it for the right reasons. Get me up there in front of him with all cameras and media present and then lay it out. If I had the money and the fame to be in that position, I would challenge him to make a difference and be willing to donate $1 million dollars of my own money to one of the many charities or humanitarian efforts out there if he could for once recognize and call out the hate, inequality and injustices that exist.

I understand why many won't and don't want to go, but I think they could do more with their influence if they came to the table, even under not so ideal circumstances. I thinks it's great the Warriors are going to make an effort as a team to make a positive impact doing community work, but they could have done that and still saved face by making a public stance while at the WH. The best way to explain it is by comparing the interview Fallon gave Trump compared with Letterman. It doesn't make you a supporter by inviting them in to your house, it's whether you choose to address the complexity of the situation. Fallon pandered and Letterman called him out.

Great for these athletes to turn him down, but that's the easy way out. We all saw how the Patriots handled the invite, but we've yet to see a team handle it in a Letterman style. Let's hope the Pens are the first to be more challenging to this box of rocks WH. Probably won't happen, but you never know.
except you are not going to be given a platform with the President to make any type of statement. It's not like his people are going to to let you just go off on a tangent while standing there. you legitimize him by being with him.  better to stay far away and make your statements.
I disagree. And I was of course speaking hypothetically. The anti Trump establishment needs a voice and a leader who is willing to take such an ostracizing position in a public setting.
Also, it doesn't have to be some huge overt act. I think of Jeff's subtle nod with his shirt at the RNRHOF.
    Something subtle, like this?

I wore this to work today.
  • Latest tweet from President Trump folks...

Texas & Florida are doing great but Puerto Rico, which was already suffering from broken infrastructure & massive debt, is in deep trouble It's old electrical grid, which was in terrible shape, was devastated. Much of the Island was destroyed, with billions of dollars owed to Wall Street and the banks which, sadly, must be dealt with. Food, water and medical are top priorities - and doing well. #FEMA

So proud of NASCAR and its supporters and fans. They won't put up with disrespecting our Country or our Flag - they said it loud and clear! Many people booed the players who kneeled yesterday (which was a small percentage of total). These are fans who demand respect for our Flag! The issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race. It is about respect for our Country, Flag and National Anthem. NFL must respect this! .@CNN is #FakeNews. Just reported COS (John Kelly) was opposed to my stance on NFL players disrespecting FLAG, ANTHEM, COUNTRY. Total lie! General John Kelly totally agrees w/ my stance on NFL players and the fact that they should not be disrespecting our FLAG or GREAT COUNTRY! Tremendous backlash against the NFL and its players for disrespect of our Country. #StandForOurAnthem

yeah, nascar supporting trump is a massive surprise.

  • Why is the press corp not asking a very simple question to Sarah? That question is, "Why does the President believe that athletes kneeling during the anthem to bring light to their social concerns is grounds for being fired from their private sector job, yet when one says that POWs aren't heroes to him because they got caught, or publicly shamed a Gold Star family- that individual is patriotic enough to be the highest ranking public official in this country AND the head of the US military? Why does he believe that, Sarah?"

It is absolutely appalling that he got away with those comments and now dares to question others patriotism. I'm sorry, Mr. President, you've lost the right to ever talk to me about patriotism ever again.

President Donald Trump sounded very satisfied with his recent remarks on patriotism and the NFL in a dinner with conservative group leaders at the White House Monday night, according to a person who attended the event.

"It's really caught on. It's really caught on," Trump said of his NFL comments to attendees at the dinner, according to someone who attended. "I said what millions of Americans were thinking."
"You could really tell he was satisfied," this person in the room said about the President's comments.

This weekend our President called dozens of black women (women he's never met and couldn't name) bitches and half the country didn't even notice.
    What a pathetic disgrace.

he's being normalized. I am still in shock that a POTUS used that kind of language and no one seemed to bat an eye. If Obama had said something like that, the right would be put into mental institutions. Now, with this douche, they applaud him for "speaking his mind".

translation: "he's as much of an asshole as I am! Hey Merle, I could be president!"

Not to mention the entire dialogue has been high-jacked.  Now people are talking about tRump, the flag, troops and patriotism.

I would like to take this opportunity to quote Kap and the original reason for protesting:

"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

Trump is just a giant fucking man child.  He is doing nothing a leader should do.  He just continues to divide this country.  There is truly nothing more to say at this point to people that still support him.

The people who support him don't necessarily disagree with you but they believe the country being divided predates Trump. He is the symptom not the cause. That point is still lost on so many of you.

Oh.  To be honest, I just take SOB as a "general insult" and I don't think the intent was to link it to their mothers.  To me he could have called them assholes and it would have been the same thing.

That said, imagine if Obama had called anyone "SOBs" at any time.  Unpresidential is the new presidential.
